- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Wicker Man is a wooden roller coaster, located at the Alton Towers Resort, in Staffordshire, England. The ride opened to the public as the first Wooden roller coaster to be built within the United Kingdom in over 20 years. On top of this, it was marketed as a globally unique experience in which guests ride an attraction that fuses both wood and fire. In this video, we'll learn how Wicker Man came to be, and explore the rides deep backstory and impressive theming!

Downtime is an essential part of the immersion and overall experience
The themed announcements alone make it worth it ;)
xD
They spent so much on theming because the through-put is soo pathetic.
@@TheNeofierer The throughput on Wicker Man is higher than most other GCI roller coasters, it's not bad at all! :)
Neofierer xd
If this thing ever really caught on fire, it would take them ages to notice.
StamfordBridge the wicker man itself is made of concrete made to look like wood
yh there was a documentary on channel 5 building the ride its made of concrete and steel and the fire pits are well away from the track so they still had the same effect they put visual screens next to the track and on the shoulders or whatever part it is of the wicker man they put the fire pits ive been on it in the dark it was brilliant and u dont feel the heat from the fire at all so everything is perfectly safe
😂😂😂
This aged like fine wine
I'm okay with Towers being the "THEME" park. I wouldn't want to have the same experience everywhere I go. BPB can stay as an Amusement Park with its interconnected rides and Seaside atmosphere. Thorpe Park has it's own niche as the licensed IP Park where you can go on SAW and Walking Dead and Derran Brown rides. I like that each UK park has its own hook. Gives you a reason to visit each one throughout a year.
Fair enough :)
“We must present him with a gift and that gift is *YOU* “
WTF ALTON TOWERS LITTLE TIMMY CAN RIDE THIS
Family coaster for the families, cheeky dark theme for the thrill seekers ;)
I dont think you've been on it, its alot different to what it looks. (and I'm not some puny anorexic girl scared of rides).
like 90% of all my favourite coasters have focused on theming and immersive stories. I'm of the belief that it's the queue lines job to tell a compelling story and to put the rider into whatever world that the ride is trying to portray. This is why the smiler is my favourite coaster of all time. Alton in general, is simply the best in the world at theming and storytelling imo
Alton Towers are certainly very good at creating unique and compelling themes. The Smiler was a good step but Wicker Man is very good at telling a well thought storyline. :)
I'm blind so unfortunately miss out on the visuals, but wicker man my favourite ride in the entire park. Can't wait to ride again when safe. Lovely commentary keep up the good work 💖
Thank you for the kind words. I'd be interested to know what makes Wicker Man the best ride at the park for you! :)
*What is the wicker Man?*
The 3rd best wooden roller coaster in the UK! And the most immersive!!
dawson megafobia and grand national
Glad got Wooden coaster in UK, Wicker Man is brilliant ride but best ride in dark love it
I definitely agree! :)
The sound of the train flying round the wooden structure make a truly unique sound and the whole structure visibly shakes when the train passes by
It really does, and it adds to the atmosphere! :)
COASTER BOT I don't do roller coasters but I thought it don't go upside down so I'm in but holly smokes I wasn't ready for I think the second pass through the burning effigy which was I got told a zero G hop which had my stomach about coming out my mouth
Me and Eli went on this last year, we sat on the front row in the pouring rain!!! And I don't just mean rain!! Absolute downpour!!!
And it was singlehandedly the most breathtaking and exhilarating experience of my life!!! Hitting those speeds and turns with the ice cold rain smacking you in the face was simply exceptional!!
A true woody! Loved it ❤️
I can't reccomend this ride enough..don't miss out on this!
Roller coasters in the rain can be great! I love Wicker Man too, it's an awesome ride :)
What is Wicker Man? Wicker Man is better than Icon. Thanks for watching and I will see you in the next video!
I agree ;)
I disagree, I found Icon a lot more fun with the Mack restraints and more airtime
Epicnerd73 its not just about airtime... god damn...
Fully agree, Icon might be longer and slightly faster, and have inversions but Wickerman is more thrilling has more theming and a lot more crazy immersive experience!
@@reiko2336 lol maybe not, but I haven't ridden many coasters and Icon was the first time I've experienced real airtime so it was amazing for me
Having been to Orlando, FL and living in the UK, I definitely would like to see more theming and story telling for rides, especially if that theming flows between different rides, becoming 'lands' just like the Disney and Universal parks. It is the one thing I feel that we are missing with our parks, that immersive theming. I would LOVE to see Wicker Man theming being spread into new nearby attractions. Maybe another ride being themed to mirror Netflix's The Ritual or maybe The Blair Witch Project.
I couldn't agree more! Theming is fantastic when done well :)
Rattling through the wickerman the first time is incredible, hits you like rock, amazing coaster.
I couldn't agree more! :)
How did you get the unreleased parts of the Soundtrack. I'm jealous.
It was hand recorded at the park by a friend of mine. Unfortunately I'm not in the position to share the file as it isn't mine to distribute. Many apologies
@@coasterbot Aw, that's a shame!
It definitely feels faster than 44mph. Anyway, Happy Birthday Wicker Man!
It really does!
Hello There, a great Video which was really well explained and I totally agree that there should be more story driven attractions and themed experiences as this would be far more immersive as well as engaging throughout. Kind regards Peter ;) p.s. keep up the good work!
Wicker Man is my favourite ride on resort, and actually the UK. I love it all!
It's awesome!
a fantastic looking wooden coaster that i can’t ride because it’s in england
the worst bit is i live in england, but i live in the south, so its a long drive
One day hopefully!
deep space
Ikr, I went AT earlier this year but I had to go for 5 days because it was a 4 hour drive, plus a stop to a service station for lunch 😩
Lucky we have Merlín passes, dk if I’d ever go AT without them.
(Also one of the 5 days we went to the water park, we didn’t spend 5 full days at the park lol)
I just finished up the wicker man movie, and man! That was, scary, intense, exciting, and wonderful! Like this ride!
Which one, the old or new one? ;)
I saw both of them.
I thought that the first one was much better though!
YES! I've been waiting for this one!
I hope you liked it! :)
This is my favorite wooden coaster. Note: I have never actually been on a wooden coaster.
This is definitely the most unique theme I have ever seen on a roller coaster.
Awesome to hear, it's definitely a great theme :)
Yes I think when a coaster has an actual story behind it, it seems very realistic. Like the similar and the whole ministry of joy thing. Just adds to the theming and makes the ride a whole better experience.
I agree, storylines are awesome! :)
Eating hot wings while watching this really enhanced the experience.
Spicy ;)
This Hallowe'en, I was lucky enough to acquire a platinum fasttrack, and I rode this 8 times in one day. It's an amazing ride and a great addition to Alton Towers! :)
That sounds awesome, I'm glad you liked it! :)
This ride was amazing would recommend
Hey coaster bot can you do what is a RMC explanation video
We hope to in the future, stay tuned :)
Got to say i was more impressed by Wicker Man than Icon!, great video as always!
Same, and thank you! :)
Alton Towers really has amazing theming for their rides. This is of course no exception.
Wicker Man definitely has the best theming in the park! :)
Wicker Man looks cool. Hope to ride it someday. Great Video!
It is really cool, thank you :)
The only GCIs I've ridden are Mystic Timbers, Gold Striker, and Ghostrider, all 3 pretty good rides. I haven't visited any parks outside of the US. I really want to someday. Wicker Man looks like it has really good theming, which is something you don't get often in America. And you're welcome, I look forward to your next uploads :)
When I first went to ride the wickerman. We had to wait 4 hours instead of 90 minutes as it kept breaking at the top.
I wonder when it's going to be removed
Most rides face issues when they are brand new. Fortunately Wicker Man is much more reliable now!
@@coasterbot yeah it was a while after it was made but they were having issues with the downward drop
I'm still curious as to why Wicker Man's lift hill has 2 gradients to it. I remember in early days it was rumoured to have a chain lift first half, then LSMs for the rest upwards to combat noise.
The interesting lift hill comes about because of two reasons. First the lift hill had to clear the brake run, hence the steep part. Secondly it had to extend to the point of the site in which the treeline was the highest, which happened to be the end. That's why the lift hill changes angle :)
When I went on wicker man it was amazing, unlike any other ride coz it had a backstory to it
I couldn't agree more :)
COASTER BOT I know, it’s so different and unique
FINALLY I have been waiting for this moment! Thanks so much for this video I'll stop pestering you for it now 😂😂
No worries, sorry it took so long! Thanks for watching :)
A spectacular, spectacular rollercoaster.
I couldn't agree more :)
Such a great ride. Nemesis has stiff competition as my all time favourite roller coaster that I’ve ridden
Awesome to hear! :)
Alton Towers has always been great with their theming! They put a lot of effort in, going all the way back to Nemesis in 1994! The Smiler, Oblivion and Thirteen all have read theming too.
They do try their best, but Wicker Man's theming is a step above the rest at the park. In my eyes, Wicker Man is the only modern ride at the park with a high level of quality and detail to the final product.
@@coasterbot What about The Smiler though? Most agree that's got great theming too, with the facility-esque station, the marmaliser in the centre and that incredible soundtrack!
@@button4boy The Smiler's theme was there in concept, but the execution was lacking. Due to being delayed and time constraints the ride was never built to it's full potential and sits in an ugly state today. It did have some great stuff upon opening, but the theming world moves quickly. I have to agree that the marmaliser, inside the station, and the soundtrack are great! :)
Wickerman is the best coaster at Alton Towers and this is a great video
Thank you! :)
Smiler and nemisis is the best
What is: Big Bob
Oooooh I was waiting for this one!
What a epic ride! I really must come and visit AT some day. Great video again!
It really is and you definitely should! Thank you :)
Story based attractions? Not just at Alton Towers? Sure that would be amazing!
I love theming on rides. I especially loved Nemesis Sub Terra. Ok the ride itself was just a small drop tower, but it was the way it delivered the story and was more immersive. I've yet to ride the Wickerman, would be interested to experience it. I'm a little disappointed by Airs rebranding to Galactica with vr headsets? But I guess I'll give it a go and see what it's like. :)
The VR isn't as bad as it seems :)
I really hope to get there next year and ride this :D
There is a video before it and it’s so spooky! Before the ride I mean
The preshow is fantastic! :)
It looks like fun!
It's a lot of fun for sure! :)
I would love to see more story based roller coasters come to the UK!
P.S this is my 3rd favourite roller coaster.
Wouldn't we all, and awesome! :)
Great video Harry! 👌
Thank you! :)
Awesome video! Wicker Man's theming is fantastic! :)
Thank you, and it really is :)
I qued 2 hours and a half for his ride but it was worth it 👌
Glad to hear you enjoyed it!: )
Great Video!!!
Thank you! :)
God this rollercoaster is so good you get so much excitement
Thanks Coaster Not!
Meant bot
Ah, Alton Towers. Aside from it being the site of the Smiler accident it’s a fun place to go. Besides, the Smiler crash was caused by operator error and wasn’t entirely the park’s fault, nor was it Gerstlauer’s…
Man I waited 2 hours to get on the ride
Worth it though
I think so too! :)
COASTER BOT man it was crazy fast and so cool
Imagine night with the flames😮😅
i don’t really love rides too much but i still went on this ride:,) i’m still so proud of myself to this day y’all 🤪🤠
Awesome to hear! :)
I went on it today it’s awesome!
It really is!
Your the only UA-camr who actually responds to my comments.
Surely others do as well!
@@coasterbot every now and then the person who made the video I commented on replies to my comments, but not very much.
Wicker man just looks awesome it's a really cool attraction and the body is insane still the flume was a good ride
It is awesome! The flume was pretty rubbish ;)
Can someone please link me this background music not the one on imascores UA-cam channel the music used in this?
Love it!
But where did you get that version of the soundtrack?
Thanks! It was hand recorded at the park by a friend of mine. Unfortunately I'm not in the position to share the file as it isn't mine to distribute. Many apologies
COASTER BOT that's fine, it will probably be uploaded by someone else at some point, great video though
Short answer : underrated
I agree!
Gotta love the #rockwork on the ride
Who doesn't love #rockwork!
Nice! Keep up the great work
Thank you :)
Great video, Harry!
Thank you! :)
Yesss my favourite what is so far!
Awesome to hear, thank you :)
Very interesting.
Only remark would be that there's nothing about the curious lift hill
Good point! The interesting lift hill comes about because of two reasons. First the lift hill had to clear the brake run, hence the steep part. Secondly it had to extend to the point of the site in which the treeline was the highest, which happened to be the end. That's why the lift hill changes angle :)
This and Mystic Timbers and this are the two best GCIs... you wanna know why?
They have sheds
Every GCI has a maintenance shed which the ride travels through :)
This is beater then Mystic Timbers there booth the same this is more fun and Intresting the outher more intense
Wait? Do you like Thorpe Park or black pool pleasure beach more? I’ve always wondered
BPB! :)
Could you do an explained video on the whole Alton towers theme park?
I hope to in the future, stay tuned! :)
theming and story give a ride character so id like to see it happen more. no idea where SW9 will go though.
Another great video my British friend
Thank you Shane :)
Is this the first ever GCI in England?
Indeed it is! :)
where did you get this music? because the one on IMAscore put on their youtube channel is diffrent.
It was hand recorded at the park by a friend of mine. Unfortunately I'm not in the position to share the file as it isn't mine to distribute. Many apologies
Nice video
Is it better than Wodan ? Because that's sadly the only GCI I have ridden :-(
And I think parks could do more theming but not this heavily pre shows. A preshow is really cool for the first time but if you have ridden it multiple times it begins to sucks :-P
I marathoned Kärnan this year and after the first three rides you just wanted to get on it. :-\
Wodan has a better coaster but I prefer Wicker Man's theme by a considerable margin. The preshow hasn't gotten boring for me yet and I've ridden close to 20 times! I disagree with Karnan also, I continued to enjoy all of it's theatrical elements even after 8 rides in a single day :)
@@coasterbot Okay thanks for the answer ;-)
Wodan is 100x better.
where did u get the music for the wicker man ride
It was hand recorded at the park by a friend of mine. Unfortunately I'm not in the position to share the file as it isn't mine to distribute. Many apologies
@@coasterbot its fine thx
@@coasterbot do you know how he or you edited the voices out in the question line form live recording so when I next go I can get it and play it
That lifthill looks wonky as all hell.
It is!
Supposed to be.
5:34 would you like to see Alton towers and potentially other UK parks (*shows footage of icon...) focus on more story based attractions?
I'm dying....
Subtle hint maybe? ;)
@@coasterbot you're the best :DDDDDD
YEEEEESSSSSS... FINALLY 😀😀😀😀😀
What is Wicker Man?
Amazing by day, even better by night.
Please like, comment, favourite and subscribe and I'll see you next time 😂
Couldn't agree more! :)
@@coasterbot I'll put it this way, my favourite ride at Alton Towers is joined between Nemesis and Wicker Man at night. The only reason Nemesis is higher than Wicker Man by day is because of nostalgia, and the fact it's still not rough (like Dragon Challenge - Chinese Fireball was before it was removed).
Was good harry
Thanks! :)
COASTER BOT your welcome
was good gyoo
E
Wickerman has the immersive story whereas ICON is the The more thrilling ride even though it still has a good theme
I agree!
where can i find the unreleased music?
It was hand recorded at the park by a friend of mine. Unfortunately I'm not in the position to share the file as it isn't mine to distribute. Many apologies
Where did you find this wicker man audio / remix?
It was hand recorded at the park by a friend of mine. Unfortunately I'm not in the position to share the file as it isn't mine to distribute. Many apologies
love u harry
Love you too Matty ;)
Riding it next year. I hope its as good as Troy and Wodan.
Most People prefer Troy and Wodan to this. This is more a family gci. But the overall experience here is really good
It has been said, Troy and Wodan are better in terms of the pure ride. However, I much prefer Wicker Man's theming over Wodan's. Troy's is minimal in comparison :)
@@coasterbot yeah. Dont take this too sereisly since i havent been on Troy yet, but I feel like
Ride it self
1 Troy
2 Wodan
3 Wickerman
Theming
1 Wickerman
2 Wodan
3 Troy
@@coasterbot I agree. I can really enjoy theming so I will like it aswell. Really love GCI's so wickermann will be loved.
What is the background music
It's part of the Wicker Man soundtrack! :)
Thx but I can’t find it online
where did you get such a lovely recording of the soundtrack?? can you direct message me please lol :)

Hopefully you can one day!
What is: DC Rivals next pls ;)
I'll note that down, thanks for the suggestion :)
Hey coaster bot, can you do a explained video on Gröna Lund, Stockholm sweden, PLEAASE! because in 2021 they are getting a B & M invert. please do it i have subscribed. i will make a video of you

where you get this music 🤔
It was hand recorded at the park by a friend of mine. Unfortunately I'm not in the position to share the file as it isn't mine to distribute. Many apologies
Excellent video about an excellent coaster!
Thanks guys, means a lot! :)
This is my white whale. When I went to Alton I was hyped up for it but (like all big coasters I go near) when I approached it, I was so intimidated by it that I ended up waiting for the rest of my family in the gift shop. Ever since then, I've looked at pictures and videos of it online with anger towards it and my mum has betted that she will get me on it by year 11 and I highly doubt it. I'm a bigger gift shop enthusiast than I am theme park enthusiast. I'm hopeless.
Edit: three years later, I did it.
Here's a tip that helped my break my coasterphobia. In the queue. tighten up your arm, feel the discomfort for 1 or 2 seconds, and then release it and focus on the relaxation. Forget about the ride. Also, close your restraints quickly so you know u can't get out.
Scrambled 59 I used to be so scared of rides and to overcome this I just started off with smaller rides and getting used to them before going on the bigger rides, I also think that I overcame my fear by closing my eyes and holding on really tight to the restraints whilst on the ride, and what’s the worse that can happen seeing that it only lasts for about 1 minute- if you don’t like it then you don’t have to go on again. I hoped this helped :)
It would be concidered a family coaster, if not for the human sacrifice theming. You never go faster than 72 Kmh. You probably go faster on the drive there! But there's no shame in admiring Coasters from afar, especially one as sexy as this!
I think an interesting fact on this list should be that it broke down while recording an advert
Hey Harry! I love your videos! Another youtuber I watch is called Mr. Roller coasters, and he says that if you watch one of his videos, he will release his biggest project yet, and so since I obviously want to see this big project, I would really appreciate it if you watched one of his videos and commented to prove it. I understand if you think this is a waste of time, but thanks no matter what!
Hey guys! Honestly I don't quite understand why you want me of all people to check out your channel. If you have a big video idea which your fans will really love, make and upload it! Don't wait for confirmation from someone else. You should want to produce fantastic stuff for your viewers, that should drive you! Don't haste, produce this big project and show how much your fans mean to you. :)
If this coaster wasn’t so story driven and didn’t have a lot of theming it would not be impressive at all, just a bit of theming can really make a massive difference on the experience
Very true!
All I want for Christmas is to have the voice of harry
Not sure that's something that you can get as a gift ;)
I saw the operator symbol behind that old druid’s Head and said “this is gonna have something to do with extra-dimensional entities, isn’t it?”
first time ive seen a 2 angle lift hill
What is: Star Trek Operation Enterprise next? please
I'll note that down, thanks for the suggestion :)
Fast uploading!
