Kellner has said that cancelling WCW was a business decision, but I just don't understand it as a business decision. The sale to WWE forced Time Warner to continue paying the large talent contracts, but selling to Fusient would have given them more money and continued to broadcast a highly-rated program (albeit with poor ad sales) without having to pay for day-to-day operations. It would just be like anybother TV program on TNT. While shortsighted moves as part of a messy merger is on brand for Time Warner, the financial decisions just don't make sense. There was a comment on this video citing Guy Evans Nitro saying Kellner was unhappy with some contract provision of the Fusient deal, but I don't know any details about that. (Book is still on the shelf)
The provision in the Fusient deal was a good reason to cancel that sale and cancel the show (temporarily anyway). It *wasn't* a good reason to firesale the division. I've always maintained that if they couldn't get a good price for a sale, they should have held on to it.
It makes sense that Turner didn't want to sell to Eric Bischoff or anyone else involved in the massive losses of 2000-2001. It never made sense for Turner to just sell it away for a meager $4.3 million (a net loss factoring all the subsequent payments to talent)
The fact that Bryan is ignoring the real reason why Kelner cancelled WCW infuriates me, and it's because the reason contradicts his own book. Kelner did an interview for the Guy Evans book, Nitro, and explained that the reason he cancelled Nitro and Thunder was because Fusient Media snuck a clause in the contract pre-merger that gave Fusient ownership of those time slots even if Fusient shut down WCW, meaning that they could program whatever they wanted in those slots. But that narrative goes against the one in Bryan's book, so it gets ignored.
Ridiculous. They never signed a deal with Fusient, so why would a nonexistent contract affect their property? The fact is they wouldn’t have cancelled it had Viacom allowed WWF to broadcast on TNT, but Viacom’s reasoning is they’d paid hundreds of millions of dollars for exclusivity and would not allow WWF to run WCW on another network. You’re such a mark. I’ve got oceanfront swamp property to sell ya
If they had sold WCW to Bischoff, more wrestlers may have opted out of their Turner contracts saving them money. One reason why wrestlers didn't jump ship is that they didn't trust Vince with their characters. But they may have trusted Bischoff.
I really wish he would have been interviewed in who killed wcw but he was probably too sick to do so. The best we have him from explaining why wcw was cancelled is the rd Evan’s book great read by the way.
@@Charsi_Escobar it’s a fantastic read I couldn’t recommend it enough and it’s not one sided like the death of wcw Bryan Alvarez book was. They have interviews with ddp Sullivan Russo Snyder kellner etc. tons of former employees really goes in depth. The former wcw employees even said it’s a much better read then the Alvarez book which didn’t have any interviews really if I remember right. so if you have the time it’s well worth it.
I feel conflicted. On the one hand, I feel bad for really disliking someone I didn't know. On the other hand, every statement I read from him made me think he was a soulless corporate suit who wanted to screw me in every possible way he could.
“Some cameramen were working there for 27 years and all of those people lost their livelihood, and that’s why I say fuck you Jamie Kellner.”--Diamond Dallas Page.
03:20 Bischoff vehemently denies this. He claims that as the acquisition came more into focus, other department needed to clean up their books and so considerable expenses were randonmly dropped into the WCW Turner accounts.
Fuck him.... A lot of people lost their jobs because he did not like wrestling... Which, even though it was dubya c dubya was the highest rated show on t.n.t.
If Who Killed WCW? was a WWE produced program, the show would end by saying Turner definitely would have kept WCW if they were still successful. And they would have stayed successful if only WWE hadn't turned it around and started taking their viewers and money. So who killed WCW? The WWE. By just kicking too much ass.
I'm surprised that on the Von Erich DVD they produced back in 2007 there wasn't a clip of Vince saying "All those Von Erich boys would still be alive if it hadn't been for Eric Bischoff and WCW quite frankly" Those WWE produced programs are so full of revisionist history.
This is an unexpected finale of Who Killed WCW?
Jamie Kellner the Man who killed WCW

Looking forward to what Bischoff has to say about this in between Conrad having a seizure and reading a mortgage ad.

So who killed the man who killed WCW? 😂
Bah Gawd, it’s Cancer!
Well I can't possibly solve this mystery. Caaaan yoooou?
Eric Bischoff perhaps?
Isn't there a big time bank geek named Jamie Kellner? Same guy?
There are some people that want WWE to revive WCW.
I don’t know how that would work though.
It wouldn't. If they revived WCW, it would only be WCW in name. The style, feel, and everything else would be basically WWE like ECW was in 2006.
@@siegmund87 Yeah I think people just want it in name.
It would be the Greatest night in the history of our sport

Thank you! this is not mentioned enough.
i dont like Alvarez. he’s boring and cringe. but just cause some hollywood exec says something doesnt make it true

Vice really going out of their way to advertise Who Killed WCW, hiring hitmen is an ambitious new marketing strategy
It was VKM’s connections and timing
the wrong company died
If that was true they would have survived

A conspiracy involving people named Zellner and Snyder? I don't know if we should open that can of worms.

Not to speak ill of the dead, but I'm struggling to find myself even remotely sad about this.
