Often I bring my coffee into my workshop just to enjoy being there looking at my stuff around me with no intention to work. Before I know it, I am into some exciting work and the coffee is cold. I just started my French cleat wall and hung the first three rows.
Sat back and looked at it for a bit, then asked myself what would Chris do.
So I took it all down and sanded everything.

First, someone needs to give me a sure fire way to convince my wife that I really NEED her side of the garage! I’m making do with my half, at 12’X24’ (okay, maybe a wee bit over on the 12’), but I’d be even happier with the full 24X24!! 😁
The clamp storage takes us back to a time when craftsman really put some pride in their work. Not like today when everything seems to be square mass produced in China and NO pride in the results! No, they don’t HAVE to be fancy BUT, it reflects on your skill and pride in what you produce! My first clamp storage was horizontal and took up too much wall space versus storing in depth back to front. The clamphog is wicked cool!!

Chris, your clamp racks are nice, but only holding 4 parallel clamps is a bit limiting. Lee valley sells their version at a similar price (Item 15K1101), which holds 6, but when I built my own, I made them able to hold 8. I modeled mine after the LV design; using the cross dowels as the attachment method gives the extra oomph to be able to hold 8 besseys at once.
Still a great job though and I can't wait to get my CNC!

Another awesome design and functionality. While watching this video, I was intrigued by your orbital sander jig. I noticed many makers, as well as myself using clamps and straps for sanders. I have no idea of the ROI, shipping costs, etc. - but is there a market as you described without cleat walls, that you sell 16" runs of cleats? ~16" would span most garage stud walls and still (maybe) be economical to ship? A cleat wall's true value is indeed a whole wall full of flexible location, etc.....but maybe a handful of short strips, gets a new maker into the "groove" of things, gets them out in the shop more, and eventually gets them to a point where they can tool their own full-length cleats, etc. All along the while, they are in the market for the next new line of cleat-glimspe-cessories TM. Have a great holiday season with those kiddos.

David this is a great point. My father and wife and I were talking about this months ago and decided to wait till material costs were down and materials were more available to start this.
It’s really nice to hear this feedback though as we were debating what size would be beneficial. 16 inches is something we landed on as well but I was also thinking of doing 24. As you could still get a lot of support into two studs with still having 24 inches of span. I’d like to know your thoughts on that link as well and thank you so much

I like your process and appreciate your enthusiasm for your great clamp designs, but as aJapanese zen and American arts & crafts minimalist, I prefer straight lines and 45° angles - not so much the complex curves sometimes used in architectural styles such as French, Roman, Italian and American Colonial. You’re absolutely right that fit and finish are just as critical the form, function and design and if you achieve that, you can spruce up a shop using other good design styles too.
