MIKEEEE!! As a Canadian, just wanna say you strike a really good balance between trolling us / bragging and acknowledging reality too. Congrats on the back to back gold, well deserved. Woulda felt like robbery if Finland won that in OT tbh The tournament is most exciting when both our countries are good tbh, so hopefully your take on the US not being that great next year is wrong and we meet yall in the final. Honestly, it’s less satisfying winning gold for either team without facing each other in the final imo (unless Russia’s back and they make the final).
This was literally the very first USA repeat championship with adults in its entire history let’s pump the breaks a bit on “it’s becoming America’s sport” 😭
I think the reason for the lack of a college to NHL pipeline is just how much the sport has historically not had that pipeline for players. I expect that to change with the CHL allowing players to play college hockey, but GMs tend to prefer former players or guys who coached in the minors.
If Carolina were to trade for one of them I think it would be for Petterson. Remember last March Friedman came out with a report that a framework for a Petterson trade to Carolina was made, and that if Petterson didn’t sign his extension he would’ve been dealt before the deadline.
I got excoriated on here for saying Seider was better than Sanderson on one of your early season videos. Guessing those opinions will be changing after this season.
The trouble is Canadian hockey media and their insular worldview that dominates everything and ends in complete myopia , They somehow think its still 1995 or something and the US/Finns/Swedes/Czechs etc. are some third rate teams . You still hear crap like oh! we could send 3 or 4 teams and our C and D teams would win lol .
I believe, bottom line, hockey Canada has many problems, it’s wayyyyy too expensive and overall doesn’t have any culture and is still looking for an identity. The USA system of the NTDP is genius and implemented amazingly. Hockey Canada has gone through ownership changes and overall makes bad decisions. As someone who grew up in hockey Canada I can grow and up see the change of as children youd go to the states and auto win tournaments to now usa hockey is evolving much faster than hockey Canada is growing. I am still glad WJC gold has stayed in North America and love to see a very competitive rivalry with the USA. As for James Hagens, I was in attendance for 2 games in ottawa last week and Hagens is definitely the worst on his line and Schaefer impressed me more in the one game I saw him in. However, Once Hagens had the puck it was impossible for anyone to take it off him, he was keeping up damn well with A to A+ prospects and my opinions on him have changed after seeing him in person. He is my current #1 and Cowan is enemy number 1 in ottawa and Toronto right now
I think Canucks get more back for Pettersson. Unless someone is going on a cup run this year, I don’t see that much of a reason to bring Miller in…he’s great but he’s not a block busting game changer.
Sens just arent playing well recently goaltending doesnt have much to do with it. Merilainen has came in and been good. The offense has really dried up over the last month it almost seems like Green has come in and focused so much on defensive systems that the offense has taken a back seat and the team is so focused on defense which when you have Ullmark scoring 2 or 3 goals a game is usually enough and not saying Merilainen or Forsberg have been bad or anything but you cant play the same way with them in net
Boston is super reachable as well both wikd card spots are open I know this was filmed a few days ago but Boston has played 3-5 more games than most teams and are now only 1 game above .500 its made them look like a lock but they really arent doing well
Lets make sure we dont talk about the main reason Canada isn't winning, is that there best players are literally too good for the tournament. What happens last year if there first line is celebrini centering Bedard and fantilli? or this year with those 2 two guys and benson or Mckenna? Not to mention multiple others guys not loaned back. The reality would be they win every game by 2 plus goals.
1. Fantilli not eligible 2. They still lost to Czechia the last 2 years it's not like they lost a close one to a loaded Sweden squad 3. USA won this year without Will Smith and Quentin Musty (not the same as Celerbini and Bedard but didn't effect USA)
@@MikeBartner 1. No, Fantilli was eligible last years tournament. Celebrini and bedard again this tournament. 2. They beat czechia when they had everyone in the tournament in canada and lost to them back to back with the guys i mentioned missing plus many others. 3. Those 2 guys aren't in the same atmosphere of Bedard and celebrini. There comparable to guys like benson or guy's like wright and korchinski in last years tournament who also weren't there. Not even an argument comparing guys Canada don't have vs other countries as its not even close.
Canada had an awful tournament. Good for the US. But to say hockey is America’s sport? Nah, Canada won the 2024 U18 Gold and the Gold medal game for U17 had two Canadian teams so the US is a nice second I guess

HAHAAHHA thanks man and next year y'all should (emphasis on should) win next year!
14:37 I saw you holding back your laughter AHHAHAHAHAHH

Another sad little Canadian holding on to the 90’s. Future is now!!!

True and I feel like we've already been seeing that transition ever since the mid 2010's
Yea this summer will really change everything for college hockey

Fair but idek what the price would be for Petey
ngl necas for jt is brutal for the canes

Thinking that this Canada team was a favorite when they had Dave Cameron as their coach is insane get a clue guys
HAHAHAHAH still had the best individual roster

@@MikeBartner doesnt matter if they chose a coach with less discipline and brains than the 19 year old kids hes coaching
Dave Cameron has a gold and silver medal at this tournament no one could have predicted that he would be this horrible of a coach

Yup the USNTDP is awesome and the results have followed

Do you bet on hockey at all Mike?
I bet on futures, but when I tend to get kinda addicted when I start betting on individual games a ton HAHAHAH
@ I hear ya man. I love betting goal scorers and point pairings myself. I’m also a big fan of O1.5 1st periods lol yes it is addicting.

Agree. But they still SHOULD be able to have a medal team no issue.
1. Fantilli not eligible

everyone is making too big of a deal of the WJC and whoever wins it
Think it does matter for the USA considering the success of the USNTDP
