I keep seeing people ask, "Why are there Holograms? Is it the future?" No, there's holograms because in Kalos, Lysandre's company made a hologram device called the Holo-Caster, basically a smartphone but its display is a hologram.
Legends Arceus is 19th century coded yeah, it’s a very thinly veiled pokemonified account of the 19th century colonisation of Ezo/Hokkaido by Japan (the real life location Hisui/Sinnoh is based on). With that in mind, I’d suggest it’s quite likely that this ZA also takes place in the mid 19th century, as everything about the trailer from the art style to the “urban development plan” points to this being analogous to the Haussmann Public Development plan of the mid 19th c, which was the wide scale refurbishment of Paris that did away with its medieval architecture and street plan to be replaced the grand boulevards it’s known for today. Ofc there’s no reason game freak necessarily have to play it that close to history, but they have clear precedent with legends arceus and everything we saw in the trailer thus far feels stylistically in sync

I don’t remember). And even notwithstanding that, the timeline of the Pokémon history is certainly not directly analogous to earths timeline (take the whole of XY’s ancient war stuff). But there are enough signifiers in the game’s presentation that suggest an early industrial period, where it’s clear that that’s the era being suggested while never explicitly stated. That’s all “-coded” means, and it’s an idea that predates tumblr and indeed even the concept of queercoding. It’s just a way for a creator to suggest certain ideas and preconceptions in their work without having to explicitly overstate everything, and allowing the work to still be loose and adaptable. It’s about time they took a break to actually develop their games instead of trying to shove rushed, buggy products down everyone’s throats. This could be a good change!
I think Legends Z-A takes place in the modern day, or very recent future, but with time travel shenanigans. The trailer shows multiple trainers and people throwing poke balls, meaning it doesn’t take place in the same time period as Arceus. Also the fashion of certain characters (I.e., hairstyles, purses, etc.) looks more modern. I think the “A” in Z-A refers some sort of time travel loop where you go back in time and learn more about Zygarde, AZ, and the ultimate weapon
9:32 Pokémon Legends Arceus was like ~1900 time frame (so not *that* long ago), it's set after Japan opened their borders to European outsiders which didn't happen until like the mid-1800s. But I think the Legends Z-A is probably more modern setting. We can infer they at least have electric bulbs given the streetlights.
NintendoLife I love you, but that "At last, a good Pokemon Presents" headline is bonkers. I was convinced it was sarcasm. "One single good announcement at the very end preceded by endless updates about mobile games" is the absolute lowest bar we can possibly set for them.
Definitely excited for Legends Z-A. One of my thoughts was that Kalos, was the first major Pokemon to introduce a big emphasis on fashion. While I know the fashion customization kind of carried over to following Pokemon Gens, I always felt that they wanted to pinpoint that Kalos was sort of the fashion capital. So in a way, I'm kind of interested in seeing if they really want to keep that reputation and go all out on the fashion options for your character. It always feels like we see so many wild fashions for specific characters, which you don't get to dress like to the same level, maybe we'll be able to go crazy with outfits for that one.
Legends Z is what saved the presents for me like it's a new Legends game, and it focused on what's like my favorite generation Pokémon X was the first main line Pokémon games I bought (not played tho, the first I played was one of the gen 1 titles) Fennekin is my favorite starter (not counting my boy Pikachu of course) but I think there's still a chance for another Pokémon release this year, besides from the mobile game (there's usually 2 every year) either it be the classic titles on NSO or a spin-off title like Stadium, Mystery Dungeon or what I'd like the most: PokéPark
I'm interested, but only because of Legends Arceus being the most fun Pokemon experience on the switch I've had despite the flaws and rushed development. Can't wait to see gameplay
The TCG thing seems cool, and Z-A might be great when it finally comes next year, but otherwise, it’s a bunch of apps which I largely don’t care about. This one was 3/10 for me.
Ending with Legends was positive, it's the only decent Pokémon on the Switch. I hope they do something great like the last spin-off and not horrible like the mainlines. 😏
12:03 Just sweeping nothing. No character pushing her out of position... just sweeping at the air. Ahhh, you can just see the effort behind these games... Like someone refusing to make it to the bathroom and just shitting on the floor. Nice.
I imagine that the "Z-A" in Pokémon Z-A is just a continuation of XY (in Pokémon XY) shifted forward by 2 letters which gives ZA. I don't see any other possible explanation.
I’m pretty sure the Unown being out of order were just supposed to be a visual gag and not something for us to drive ourselves crazy over. Apparently Legends ZA being set in Lumiose is seemingly based on the 1850s redevelopment of Paris, which is intriguing given the trailer seems to hint at something so high tech (although it is just a representation of the concept tbf). EDIT: there was another redevelopment in of Paris in the 1960s, which could also work.
After the glitchy and bug-ridden Scarlet and Violet, I'm hesitant with preordering a new pokemon game even though i love the pokemon franchise. I want to wait for reviews now before purchasing.
The entire direct was about mobile games with the exception of the last trailer which showed absolutely nothing. You are out of your mind if you think this was a good Pokemon Presents.
I've never really played Pokemon X and Y, so i guess i have a year or so to get to it. I went from disappointed when the mobile apps updates took more than half the runtime of the presentation, to pretty satisfied with the reveal of the upcoming TCG app, but i definitively didn't expect a new Pokemon Legends announcement and that makes it a really awesome Pokemon Presents. (Maybe a little remake of gen 5 by a third party studio would have been nice to pass the time but can't really complain there...). I'm mostly glad they are giving some time to their developers to try and create a good game.
Gold and Silver I am reasonably sure was a reference to Pokemon Masters EX. Where Lance and the rival was shown off. Mind you I was skimming past the mobile stuff.
Unown have been shown to be an important aspect of the Pokémon universe, not just Johto - particularly with Arceus lore. This legends game is also clearly leaning into letters so it makes sense to have unown despite not having any Johto content.
i mean they could have already made these kind of pokemoncards in which u can venture in the card using augmented reality but they never did for some reason? 🤔
I'm sorry but did we watch a different direct? I was really disappointed, why is there still no pokemon games for Nintendo online? Make a big fuss about it being pokemon day yet its all app based games (I know cafe is on switch, doesn't mean its not just a mobile game) and then no footage for the only real game they did announce...
Another Legends game is great, but...they didn't really show us anything?? It's not even clear whether or not it's a properly historical setting. I hope they go with an open zone style again instead of overreaching with an open world like they did with Scarlet and Violet.
The "A" in the logo of Pokemon Legends Z-A looks more like a lambda to me. Is it Zeta-Lambda? I'm not sure what implications this could have for the game though.
I'm surprised they only announced 1 Switch game that's for 2025 especially since they didnt have any new games last year too. They had dlc and detective Pikachu but neither of those I would say full size games. This is the longest break between games I can remember.
@@DRAG0NSPIRIT10 agreed, just wasn't expected. I hope it time well used. Also, I hope it at minimum on both consoles so we can get that switch 2 fps boost we already know we will need lol
I hope Legends Z actually has some replay value or at least some gameplay variation or a little depth (not asking for much, it's still Pokemon) Because there's literally 0 reason to ever play Arceus again after the first time though. I've played even mediocre titles like BD&SP twice.
I feel like half of this video is just fluff. We're only here for legends z. You guys even know that you have little to no interested Pokemon cards. Why is every UA-camr concerned about making long videos, I feel like the best UA-camrs just fill their contents with Top notch material
Im kinda suspicious of the whole unknown slight misspelling of "see you?" And the pokemon exec saying info on our latest titles and we only got pokemon legends za. Maybe we get something johto related that was outsourced to someone else revealed around june to release this year.
I’m not that hyped about this Presents. Looking forward to see more about Pokemon Legends, but that the trailer doesn’t say anything about the game. Just a weird gen 6 teaser. The rest of the presentation was all about mobile games.
Man you really have to a Pokémon fanatic (in the full context of the word) to look at this presentation and be actually exited for the franchise... This is sad...
Did we though? Did we really? It’s been 15 years since we got any new a new Gen 2 game (HG/SS was released in 2009), and they had been posting a ton of Gen 2 related stuff plus as you can see in this video here you can see a bunch of Unown and the legendary beasts but nope nothing new for Gen 2
I feel like noone ever pay attention to the word redevelopment, its possible that this is after the pokemon war and we need to rebuild/renovate the lumiose
You forgot that TCG Online was shafted and replaced with TCG Live only just last year. Curious if TCG Pocket will replace that or be a separate game on its own.
If they make the card game with a bit of story where you can battle the computer and not just pvp I think it would be unreal. Anything like the GB Pokemon card game and there onto a winner
Zion, Pokemon TCG is on mobile already with Pokemon TCG Live. It's just a poop game that has had a mixed to negative response from the community. Hopefully Pocket will be an improved product!
I cannot hide the fact I'm still worried for Nintendo in the months to come. It's true we're getting a new Pokemon Legends game, which is potentially releasing in January 2025, but that game alone won't NEARLY be enough to cover the huge gap between this Summer and the release of the new console in March 2025. After Paper Mario, there will be about 6 months of emptiness, and Nintendo is not allowed to have such a long gap with no games. Not like Sony...
I had intense dismay when I saw the pokemon cards on the phone. INTESNSE DISMAY. I actually held both hands to my mouth in horror and disbelief. Why is this a thing? Why does pretending you are playing with trading cards on a phone screen appeal to anyone? Don't they know you can to a google image search and bring up scans of any pokemon card for free? HOW IS THAT DIFFERENT? WHAT IS THIS? Is this the matrix? Are those people in the matrix? Hallucinating that they are playing with real pokemon cards? I am so incredibly confused as to how we got here. Pokemon cards were a dumb enough collectible. Now it's... image files of pokemon cards? Okay. Have fun with that. I'll be playing videogames.
A good Presents? For the anniversary of the series we got updates on trashy mobile games, a TCG mobile game designed to encourage spending on cards and a trailer for a game with no gameplay. It's amazing how low Pokemon fan standards are, lmfao.
I think Z-A will take place in the late 1800s to early 1900s and its real life inspiration is Haussmann's renovation of Paris.
That seems likely, yeah. If it takes place during that big industrial boom, there might be a bit of a steampunk vibe to it. I'd be all for that, if it's the case.

Legends Z is what saved the presents for me
like it's a new Legends game, and it focused on what's like my favorite generation
Pokémon X was the first main line Pokémon games I bought (not played tho, the first I played was one of the gen 1 titles)
Fennekin is my favorite starter (not counting my boy Pikachu of course)
but I think there's still a chance for another Pokémon release this year, besides from the mobile game (there's usually 2 every year)
either it be the classic titles on NSO or a spin-off title like Stadium, Mystery Dungeon or what I'd like the most: PokéPark
I didn’t watch the Pokemon Presents, looks like i didn’t miss anything. Although i need to get that Legends game after I buy Legends Arceus.
I hope we can finally get Eternal Flower Floette 🥀
Ending with Legends was positive, it's the only decent Pokémon on the Switch.
I hope they do something great like the last spin-off and not horrible like the mainlines. 😏
Pokken tournament?
U mean ending with a title 😂
I'm excited!!! It seems Pokemon Legends Z will take us to early 18 or 1900's. That'll be cool!
RGT-85 would disagree about the quality of Pokémon Presents haha
Most people would. This is the first channel I've seen call it good.
I was 7 when x and y came out and it was my first Pokemon game. I am 18 now. We are so back
That was so lackluster.
Pokemon Legends: Twin Peaks Edition
If Z-A takes place in one city maybe they can do more than 20 FPS this time.
It left me thinking. WHAT TF WERE THEY THINKING
I hope Legends Z-A will be a cross-gen console release
I hope Legends ZA will have mechanics more competitive and modern instead of going too basic and baseline like Arceus.
Nintendo announces NSO updates, not Pokémon.
Legends entirely in one city just sounds a bit boring. I hope I'm wrong and that gameplay will be revealed soon.
Which is a very good thing, as they've really been pushing too hard in recent years to get games out and they've certainly suffered for it.
@@DRAG0NSPIRIT10 agreed, just wasn't expected. I hope it time well used. Also, I hope it at minimum on both consoles so we can get that switch 2 fps boost we already know we will need lol
I hope Legends Z actually has some replay value or at least some gameplay variation or a little depth (not asking for much, it's still Pokemon)
Because there's literally 0 reason to ever play Arceus again after the first time though.
I've played even mediocre titles like BD&SP twice.
Z-A
I feel like half of this video is just fluff.
They just released a mobile version of pokemon tcg last year,
Pokemon TCG Live
They used Johto and Gen 2 quite a lot during the video. So it's very odd that they swerved here.
I’m not that hyped about this Presents. Looking forward to see more about Pokemon Legends, but that the trailer doesn’t say anything about the game. Just a weird gen 6 teaser. The rest of the presentation was all about mobile games.
pla was set in the meiji restoration 1868. i think this game will be set in the haussmann's renovation of paris, which happened from 1853 to 1870
🥰👍🤩💯 The French region is back along with mega evolution!!
Man you really have to a Pokémon fanatic (in the full context of the word) to look at this presentation and be actually exited for the franchise... This is sad...
So your a washed out fan that still comments on pokemon videos and I'm sad for bring a fan pfft sure dude😂
So i think he joke with the unown is that they don’t know how to line themselves up properly to spell words.
Because at the beginning they also misspelled “Pokemon Presents”
Literally the only good thing was the Legends announcement. Would hardly call that a good presents.
i was definitely disappointed in them going back to the kalos region. i was really hoping for johto 9:11
Lol
What’s the point of Pokémon card game pocket when TCG Live exists
One good announcement doth not a good presentation make.
Though two. That TCG thing looked pretty neat.
Speaking of Gen 2
Did the Unown leave a message? Or it was just something that would look funny?
The A in the logo is just the dog form Zygrade - to me it's clearly the same green and almost supposed to represent the paws 🤷♀️
Not the biggest fan of Kalos but I do like the legends concept and Mega’s so I can’t complain
Lets see how the game is first.
By the way there’s already another Pokémon TCG app. This is a new one, in addition to that for some reason?
🤩 Digital Pokemon TCG Totally getting that app no battles however unlike tons of IRL cards they accidentally won't end up in the trash
