Bernie Taupin - Advice to Future Musicians & Songwriters
/ eltonjohn
The part that is most accurate is to "just stick with it". No one gets to be a megastar on their first 5 songs.
"I'm not saying I am" -- what a modest guy! ;p
I swear Elton and Bernie are my greatest inspiration. I listen to they’re songs and read they’re lyrics and I’m just awed. They made me who I am and who I want to be.
Bernie! You are an amazing songwriter. The way you use words to get a message across is brilliant!
I believe in myself.
THANK YOU!, Bernie Taupin
for your "Lyrical Genius Mind."
In writing this "thought
provoking" song!
"These Dreams"
for Heart.
It's a mosaic tapistry,
line for line and is
Absoulutly BRILLIENT
simply...
BRILLIENT!!!
I'm going to pay Heart
to play this at my funeral.

I write and draw for a living and I'm good at it. I have learning disabilities which makes people think I have a gene to be creative but I attribute a lot of my creative ability to my environment. My parents brought me up in an environment where I spent a lot of time doing creative activities and not just studying and watching TV. I was always doing after school activities and classes in music, art, crafts and just anything I wanted. My parents weren't rich but they thought it was as important as school and made me take my hobbies just as seriously. Not many parents create this environment and as a result not many adults are able to be very creative.
God bless Bernie Taupin. 💕💖❤️
You got it Bernie your the best in our world
He Has some very good insight = i.e. Wisdom
Yes, if you listen to the lyrics of some of his songs....he knows God!
WOW so amazing, i really hope i have that gene lol what an inspiration!
America I totally agree with my mentor in the music business. Bernie taupin is right you either have it or you don't. I mean I write song lyrics but I can't put the lyrics to music and I don't try because I never could and never will
Yes but there is the question of how much of it is from environment of how you grew up or genes. I think it's a combination. A lot of people who could have been creative don't develop their brain during childhood and teenage years doing anything creative and then expect to be able to do it in their late teens and adulthood.
Alright... who the hell disliked the video?
Without Bernie Taupin, Elton John wouldn't have been too much.
Jim Harter you are not wrong, stay safe Welsh Lyn.
I don't agree with that. Other lyric writers for Elton would've come along. Elton actually wrote some songs with other lyricists when he & Bernie were taking a break.
you need luck as well as talent! this guy is/was a great lyricist but was amazingly lucky to find elton john- who- (whilst not trying to blow smoke up the blokes arse) well, not from this range!! is a friggin genius! so there you have it- the talent and the luck!!!!!!.

I disagree with Bernie's view that you either have songwriting talent or you don't. Just because you don't have it now doesn't mean you can't achieve it if you work at it!
i bet youre a stuggling bitter songwriter
Ping Pong I agree that anyone can possibly write a great song when they are 50 but couldn't when they were younger. Imagine 50 years of life can bring you a world of wisdom pain and suffering, well one heck of a song can come from that alone. Now that could be the same for someone 10yo too. But everyone is different and people develop different and improve skills as they go through life. So there is no way if you are a crappy writer now you couldn't possibly write a few good ones later on in life....
how does one know if he has it or not, that is the question.
+zura iashvili h kilz .. about writing great songs at 50 years old.. we don't see it very much, most songs seem to be written at a younger age and I think the experienced 50 plus writers are afraid to write what they really think because it's probably way too dark for the big commercial machine ( unfortunately for us) I would like to write with someone else.. line for line ,word for word . with email
I agree with Bernie 100%..If you have green eyes you can't turn them into blue. Now figure that one out..Songwriting is in the blood, not in a book.God gives certain ones special talents, and Bernie has better talent than Elton at writing songs and they both will agree to that.Bernie can't write music,Elton can,so Bernie write the lyrics..It's the same as an artist, some can paint a pretty picture, and some can paint a beautiful one.Good day chap..
Bernie, until the Elton John album your songs sucked. You got better, peaked, and leveled off. Like everybody else.
octopibingo yikes, hey man, why don’t you try being 1/10 as good as him, then talk shit.
