    So it looks like this vid is almost 4 years old and honestly I love it!! It gives us a feel for what you pros experience with daily and heavy use. I was worried these were the chinese crap from the 80s that would shatter with just a hand ratchet and no cheater bar. God I've had some crap tools before. However for us weekend warriors, Quinn seems to be just fine. I've been looking at their new Master Socket Sets and they look really nice. Lifetime warranty and the HF lady said "If we don't have the individual tool, we'll crack open a set and give you one out of that set"...sound perfect for me. Thanks again.

      Honestly, for like i said, the 10 or so bucks that the set had cost me, even with heavy shop use, was impressed. 6 months was kind of the sets too end day to day hard useage, but of you look at someone gwtting started on budget, or occasional home use tools, not bad at all. Are there competitive options, yes, but also, proximity to hft etc can make difference in choices. So if you get a coupon to where everything comes out to 10-12 bucks a set-ish (40-50 for met and sae deep and short set) i dont think would be money wasted for home or starting up

      @@BeardedSeabee82 - thanks man and yeah I agree. What's hard for us home DIYers to know is how bad is bad. Or how they will hold up for us. And your vids/comments really help put all of that into perspective. So well done and thanks again!!

      @@BeardedSeabee82 I am not even a 'weekend warrior' - more like a 'once a month' warrior.
      I will never wear out any set - whether cheap or expensive but I have been told by some people over the years that expensive sets (Snap-on in particular) will 'grab' a bolt better and you're less likely to round it off.
      Do you think that's true?
      I'm don't need to do anything on a budget but I don't want to waste money either

      @@jeffa847 Thankyou for your question, as it highlights some valid points. As for wearing this set out part time wrenching at home, I dont think it would be a problem as you arent wrenching on semi trucks and large equipment daily as I do, so Snap On would NOT be for you. However, it isnt what I would call a complete set either. I would say look around at some more complete sets (Tekton, Capri, Olsa, etc) that do offer sizes 5/16-3/4 and 8 or 10mm-19mm as far as 3/8 drive goes, then look at good set of ratchets (Olsa, Capri, even GW). Unless you can find a hella deal on market place or online auction site. But amazon or local northern tool are good places to check. Any other questions, let me know.

    Definitely Harbor Freight hand tools are meant for weekend warriors at their low to mid-tier brands. I don't need the highest-end tools as a DIYer, so Pittsburgh Pro, Daytona, and Quinn are good for my needs. I get by with a 1/4-inch Gearwrench and a DeWalt 1/2-inch ratchet, also have a Pittsburgh Pro 3/8. If I were a full blown mechanic I'd probably need better tools, but I only have 4 cars I work on every 6-12 months, so what I have works just fine. My friend who is a mechanic works on 4-5 cars a day at the dealership he works at, so probably the tools I have would die in 9-months for him too, but for me they'll probably last a lifetime since I just don't have that many cars to wrench on since I'm a DIYer.

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  8 місяців тому

      It is a fair set, ideal for home, and for the price definitly decent, but yeah, wrenching full time they dont last, but also made for ok road kit, if i lose one outside not heartbroken lol

    I bought these and some Pittsburgh sockets because they were cheap and I don’t work on vehicles for living. I purchased sets in all three drive sizes with ratchets for less than a complete medium quality set. They have been okay but the metal is a little soft and some are showing wear. I have replaced them with GearWrench in 1/4 Drive and 3/8 drive but haven’t settled on a replacement for my inch drive set yet. I will continue to use the Quinn and Pittsburgh sets for odd jobs and for things that Involve hammers...

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  4 роки тому +2

      For mild to medium use they arent a bad set, the fact they are 6 point kind of makes them handy to round out sets for home, or like you said, jobs that involve hammers or even custom made tools lol. Thanks for watching!

    I got that set when they were calling it Pittsburgh to round out my big craftsman set. I never had a problem but didn’t use them a whole lot. For not much more gearwrench is much nicer. I have about 6 years on them with occasional impact use and they’re still in perfect shape

      @BeardedSeabee82  4 роки тому +1

      THank you for the input! I think overall these do have a place, heavy use in shop, not quite so, but lighter use would last a while and having 6 points vs all those darn 12 points alot of sets fill in for their deep sockets this set could definitly even those out. I am going to try and get these replaced with something a bit more mid level to see how those hold up, Thank you for watching and hope that you have a good weekend

    I’ve got a bunch of mismatched stuff. Nothing really a brand name. All missing a piece or 2. I just do DIY stuff like maybe a brake job once a year. I did coil-overs and shocks on my truck. Stuff like that maybe once or twice a month plus household stuff. I want to get a full set (I know there’s no such thing and you’ll always need one offs) but something that will cover 99% of stuff. Quinn has a 428 pc set without a ton of fillers. Do you think they’d hold up to my use. For about $1200 I can get a US general cart the Quinn set and a few power tools 1/2 impact drill and 1/4 impact driver and batteries. $1200 wouldn’t go far with any of the big names. I know harbor freight isn’t the best but it seems a lot of bang for the buck

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  2 роки тому

      I would say storage wise, check out your local menards for a Masterforce toolbox or home depot for maybe something on the milwaukee side of things. I think you get a little more bang for buck with those options. As far as your useage, quinn 6 point sockets sae &mm, deep and shallow chromes for 3/8dr. 1/2" and 1/4" i would do some comparison shopping on amazon or other websites as you can find some better steals out there like CP, capri, tekton, olsa, and many others, especially in impact sizes. For what you do, you dont need milwaukee or bluepoint or snapon or other tool truck pricing for hand tools. Ratchet though, maye capri, or olsa or gear wrench for something good, and decent priced as far as sets go

    To anyone who sees this these sockets and ratchets are quality and will work for any diy project or even the occasional mechanic and if your worrying about breaking a socket or ratchet your not supposed to put 100Lbs of torque on them anyway that’s what a breaker bar is for just my opinion
