To be honest, I don't know if it's intended at that point or not, but all these moments with him and Metatran hinted at who he really was, what his views really were, Michael goes out of his way to not hurt humanity as we've seen recently, he cares about Humans and does not like hurting them, we've only ever seen him hurt Humans once, and that could be argued that it was an accent when he was showing up to speak with Zachariah. If peoples eyes burn out by seeing a mid class Angel (Castiel with Pamela) imagine what would happen when they see an Archangel. Gabriel risks his life for humanity. Chuck? He's a hypocrite, he doesn't care about them, and locked Lucifer away when he dared to rebel for the same reason. "If you ask me, they're all reruns." "Nature, Divine, human nature, toxic." Even then if you pay attention you could tell that he was never good. Even Amara called him out. "You just wanted to be big! To feed into your own ego! If you aren't going to change why should I?" AU Michael "My world. This world, nothing but failed drafts, and when he realizes that they're flawed he moves on and tries again. Castiel: No, why would he do that? Michael: It's because he doesn't care! About you, me, anything. So I'm going to burn every one of his little worlds to the ground until I catch up to the old man. Lucifer. He says it and explains it so many times. "He needed my help! And would say anything to get it! ' What did Chuck say in season 14? "I'm a writer. Writes lie." Chuck even knew that Gabriel was alive, that Michael was perfectly sane, and perfectly battle ready, what did he do? He left Michael in the cage to rot, and left Gabriel to suffer a date worse than death, just to make the story interesting. I was always confused on why he didn't let Michael out (even if he was insane) as we've seen with Gabe, the boys could have helped Michael out of his hole (again, if Lucifer and God told the truth.) If they knew that Michael was perfectly fine, they would have tried to help him, but Chuck couldn't have that now? Could he? The signs were always there, hell! He even lied to the Winchester's along with Lucifer to get their help because he needed them. Notice on how he told Metatran one thing, and Sam, Dean, and Lucifer completely different things, and views. The signs were there from the very beginning. Spoiler Plus, notice how quickly he wanted to snatch Michael up, so the Winchester's couldn't tell him the truth.
He isn't an hypocrite. It's the very nature of his Character, he said it in the beginning. He is pure creation. All he does is creating, over and over. His mistake? Probably putting himself inside his worlds so that people started referring to him and making him as someone he isn't. Also the idea that God shouldn't be flawed, is Human - made. He could very well be flawed. After all he is the only being with real Free Will. He makes choices for himself.
This is why I love Chuck, he is so flawed but also hurt and instead of dealing with things he runs away or tries to forget and ignore it. You showed that wonderfully.
I'll say it right now: Chuck should've never made the villain. That's not to say he's the paragon of goodness, hell, no one in the show is; even Sam and Dean caused multiple people to die. But here's the thing: those consequences were the results of the characters' personal struggles. Chuck was my favorite of them all. No matter how he tried, something always goes haywire in the world. To a point that the only solution would be turning humanity into programed robots. He was crushed that he caged his son and sister, that humanity keeps insisting on harming itself. For a being that's supposed to be all powerful, that was frustratingly soul crushing. The only conclusion he could arrive to was that he was the problem factor that needed to be taken out, and so he did. However, unlike Chuck, Sam, Dean, and various other hunters kept going, never giving up on protecting people, never letting go of what is right. Yes, there were few stumbles and falls, but they got back up. And Chuck needed to be shown that, to see how much of an idiot he was. And the fact that Metatron, a douch essentially, was the one to do that was the ultimate wake up call Chuck needed. That was compelling and effective. So, for the show to just go, "nope, he's just a spoiled, mustache twirling villain" was a giant middle finger to his character.
God, I’ve been trying to articulate how I feel about chuck but this just about perfectly sums up how I feel about him!!! He had a real and authentic storyline that hit hard and gave me all those feels and then they turned him into a James Bond villain and complete with monologuing and it just cheapened his character towards the end
Casifer: YOUR CHILD! CHUCK: Why should I put you first above all others? Me:BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT PARENTS DO! YOU CREATED PARENTHOOD! I SWEAR TO YOU, I'M GONNA BREAK YOUR NOSE! (this why they'll never have a character like me on Supernatural.)

He never said he altered their free will. He said he puts them in stories and hopes for them to win. This means doing things like arranging for Jack's birth to open a portal to Michael's world, and for Jack to lose his soul. He manipulates reality to create conflict for the Winchesters. But all the evidence in the show so far is that he can't tamper with free will. I hope that's maintained, as it wouldn't make sense if he was controlling their choices rather than just their circumstances. That would be a bad story.

Absolutely. He creates life out of loneliness, he tries to get them to do good, they don't, so he tries to be less active. All of these are elements of a good story.
