  • The sophomore record from the Québécois solo act Gulguhk, spearheaded by the prolific artist behind Ifernach, Maeströ Cröque Mört, and Aufnorden, among others, presents a notable evolution in sound and style.
In comparison to the debut album, this record exhibits a significant shift towards a more atmospheric concept. The malevolent atmosphere that characterised the earlier work has been partially set aside, though not entirely abandoned, as synths continue to play a crucial role. This evolution aligns Gulguhk with the broader approach in this region, where atmospheric black metal is used to create a rich layered soundscape.
The album achieves an ethereal quality through a balance of guitars and synths, crafting an effulgent atmosphere that is quite immersive. The melodies, while retaining an underlying saccharine quality, do not detract from the album's inherent aggression. This juxtaposition of endearing harmony and ferocity is a hallmark of the Québécoise black metal.
Despite its atmospheric leanings, “Pillé, Vendu et Trahi” does not stray from its black metal roots. The vocals remain fiercely cold and chilling, perfectly complementing the instrumental backdrop. The drumming is particularly noteworthy, showcasing a step-up in performance with its commanding presence and tight execution, propelling the album forward with relentless rhythm.
“Pillé, Vendu et Trahi” marks a significant step forward for Finian Patraic, as he demonstrates not only improved songwriting but also a remarkable ability to incorporate atmospheric elements while retaining the raw aggression that defines black metal.

This release shattered my opinion that solo projects are carried out to satisfy the musical ego. Very powerful, non-trivial and interesting compositions!

You will find many people that will agree that "Руки Вверх" is much better than any black metal material made so far.
Not really hard to fans for that sort of music, right? ehehehe

This is really good. As much of a fan of FInian I already am, I think I don't have a lot of bias in saying that this is just a great stand alone album. I wish it was longer!

It's true, but sometimes longer records are difficult to maintain the listener on his toes, even to keep the minimum level of aggression. But yes when it works...the result is amazing
