- In this video I go over how I installed the Lucky Portable Fish Finder and tested it during a full day of fishing. All in all I'm really happy with how it performed and it provided some much needed data about the lake I've been fishing at. The depth and water temperature readings were confirmed accurate and I was able to use the sonar to identify underwater structure and find fish. I was a little disappointed I didn't get to mount the transducer how I wanted but honestly the new setup worked flawlessly. I hope you like the video!

Just a quick update, I've had this out a couple times now and it's extremely useful. It's also lasted two full 6-8 hour days on the water without needing to be charged. It's finally down to about 30% so I'm charging it back up -- very impressive battery life!

Thank you for this video, good stuff. Based on this review I also purchased this device. I use this on my belly boat. I recommend playing with different sonar sensitivity settings. If the water has vegetation and/or water is murky with leafs etc particles, try to change to a low sensitivity like 3. It decreases false fish alarms, and at least i don't want to know about all the little minnows in the water. I mainly use this for pike fishing, so I also quickly turned off the small and medium size fish alarm, they don't interest me anyways. The big fish alert also reacted to small pikes (around one kilograms), so I don't think fish actually need to be very big in order to get to "big" category on this device. This simple sonar has all the features I could ever want.
Great info here! I also had a lot success playing around with the sensitivity. For what this unit provides it's really a great value. Ill have to try only using the big fish alarm, I am generally looking Crappie/Bass so it sounds like it could work for that too. The 'small fish' setting must be for crystal clear waters or as you said, bait fish.

For a simple fish finder you can throw on a kayak/boat it really does work. I'm happy with it for what it is.

Hey if you can’t use the suction cup mount. Get a go pro mount from yak attack with it. You can then combine the 2 and mount it on your rails

If you have a dry sort in your kayak you can put the fish finder in there and secure it , and the transducer can read through the kayak

Comparatively, the crew has the most gear track for the money. Are you getting a Yakgadget anchor pole?
There are a ton of tracks on the Crew, it's true. I had an anchor pole but it wasn't as convenient as I hoped it would be. Instead I'm using a 3.5lb anchor now and I love it.

I have a question about the sizes of fish that are displayed on the fish finder: what are the sizes of the fish that it's showing, i have been looking online for over an hour and I can't find anything that would actually suggest how big the fish is sure it says big or large but no measurements are online so i was wondering, maybe you would know
I don't know the exact sizes but if you figure the small and medium to be bait fish you can kind of go from there
Just drill out the scupper hole to fit the trandducer.
Is there a big box store that sells that type a FF . I looked in fleetfarm , running , Wal-Mart and a few more . I cannot buy anything on line period anymore . To risky and that's from experience . Maybe sheels store ?

What's the diameter of the transducer?
Hard to tell in video but if this cable is 25 ft long, what did you do with all of the excess?
I coiled it up with a zip tie and keep it under the seat. I left enough off on each end to deploy the transducer and plug into the fish finder when attached to my jacket.
Sweet. I just ordered the $130 one from Amazon for my Hobie. No idea what the difference is other than being waterproof/corrosion resistant. (I fish salt so that’s why I spent a little more).
Didn’t want to drill holes into my Hobie so this fish finder should work perfect. I’m sure my scupper is to small as well. Lucky Sonar does sell a suction transducer mount that I’m also considering.

I bought this model! Won't be able to test it until spring! Have you tested it on the ocean? That's where I plan to use mine!
I haven't had the chance, no oceans nearby, lol but the specs have pretty deep depth readings
Does it show on the fish finder the outline of a fish nearby or how do you know what a fish on it im new to getting a fish finder.
The resolution is pretty low for the unit but it will show lines where the fish are. It has a feature to replace the lines with fish icons to read it easier. The fish icons are not super accurate but you can adjust the sensitivity for it to be more accurate.
Do you have a recent update on it? I want to get a garmin striker but I’m in no rush to buy everything to make it work on a kayak
I don't have a further update but I have used both units. The Lucky is more for general info, water temp, depth, some very light fish finding. If you want an actual sonar with very accurate results the striker would outclass the Lucky by a large margin. The best way I could put it would be like a TV, you could buy two TV's that are both 40in but one is 720p and the other is 4k.

Very good! Easily lasts a full day of fishing, I usually charge every 2nd - 3rd trip.

Crew owner here. IF you want to upgrade your graph the Garmin Striker 4 transducer does fit in the scupper hole with a little bit of filing of the transducer. May be a nice upgrade path for you when you get to the point of needing a bit more capability in a sonar unit. Mine gets installed in the scupper plug when I get to the lake and as it sits barely recessed I don’t worry about it scraping on any rocks or logs. Many of the small lakes I fish in Wisconsin do not have any map data available so moving to a unit that allows you to make your own lake maps has been awesome. Love the Crew!

A handy dandy way to mount this product on the rails is to combine the lucky suction cup mount with the yak attack go pro mount. This works because the top of the crappy suction cup mount is connected the same way as a GoPro so you can put the top of the crappy mount onto the good yak attack mount allowing you to put it on the rails. :)

@@mvboutdoors just tested it and my go pro fits onto the suction cup mount so I know it will work. Just put the fish finder mount half where the GoPro goes. I’m ordering one now
