Well Cool kids club, we got around 24 hours to play Brawl before every other person you go against is playing this deck
Play something with blue. Counter caldera breaker and this deck scoops
@@haggleboggle Or just remove the Breaker as soon as it hits the 'field. Iunno how this deck keeps winning lol.
I'm doing it.
@suNn.K.O won't work. The sacrifice effect is a cost, so it cannot be responded to. Only way to stop it is to counter the creature or either of its triggered abilities.
@@Jacob-pp3kb If you remove it in response to the breaker's ETB it works, since then the LTB trigger resolves before the ETB (whether or not it is sacrificed).
RIP to the opponent who had Bolt Bend but used it on the wrong target.
I don't think they'd have had a 4 power creature for the cost reduction after Rowan ate 80.
The opponent would not have had a 4 power creature at that point and wouldn't have been able to cast it anymore.
@@michaelgreen2687 They had the ritual. Storm-Kiln Artist would've created another treasure token from the ritual, so that's 4 mana.
The next-level play is to make a Crucias value deck now, so that after your opponent mulligans hard for their counterspells/removal and keeps up mana to interact with the combo you just start slamming midrange cards and win the old-fashioned way.
At 13:22, you say "fire at will", but actually, you're facing the other Kenrith twin
How dare you, CGB. I am not a Mesa Falcon. You're a Mesa Falcon. I am very clearly a Golgari Grave Troll.
Banned twice in modern and irrelevant in all other formats?
My comment was about the same thing but I realized most of my decks are jank... I am a Mesa Falcon whether I want to admit it or not
@@09419 Smelly creature that dwells in dark places and works mostly with black and green cards.
@@09419I mean any dredge deck still plays it
Sure, dredge isn't the top deck anywhere but legacy and vintage dredge are still powerful tier 2 decks so saying it's completely irrelevant is kind of a stretch
Everybody’s a Mesa Falcon at one point in their life 😂
Alchemy is where the interns at WOTC go to learn game design
Just put "discard a nonland" and the card is perfectly fine
I thought the learn game design at hearthstone
I swear I can see the look on the face of the first opponent like.. “Wait what.. what just happened?”
You can actually play Mox Amber in this deck to ramp to the combo a turn earlier and it doesn't mess with Crucias
But are the low chances of hitting it to ramp worth the extra card in the deck after the combo? That lessens the chance of drawing the volcanic geyser and needing an extra turn
You're still 100% to hit at least one geyser on your draw two and even if you hit geyser amber and the geyser gets countered you'll still draw geyser next turn. The cases where the amber messes with the combo are really narrow @mse326
@@I43573 How do you figure you're 100%? There would be more than 1 non geyser left in the deck between the Amber and nonmountains. And next turn may not come. This is already usually a turn 5 win, there is hardly a guarantee you get turn 6.
And what is the chance of hitting the amber? That is also pretty low. You have far less chance of being able to ramp with it, than you do having it mess with the draw preventing the Geyser, it isn't a benefit
@@mse326
The chance of it messing your draw up is 0. Surveil off of theater, draw 2 off conviction. 3 is more than 1 so you always get a geyser
@@josephcole8102 There are 6 non-Mountain cards in the deck. What's to stop all of those from being above all four of the geysers?
That premature Bolt Bend must've felt so bad!
If they wait they will lose the cost reduction when scion dies and not be able to cast it at all.
@@michaelgreen2687 you are correct, but the funny thing is it looks like he had dark ritual in hand, so with the mage he could have used his treasure to cast dark ritual, which would add BBB and create another treasure, THEN cast bolt bent. So normally yes, you're right, but here he actually could have used bolt bend to survive and win!
There is another 97 land brawl deck I encountered on Arena, based on the commander Laelia, The Blade Reforged. I don't remember what the other key cards were but I got one-shot by the opponent exiling most of his library and hitting for about 70 damage.
For reference, this uses a discover/cascade chain with Etali's Favor at the bottom to give Laelia Trample (and like 90+ counters).
The discover/cascade cards are Geological Appraiser, Trumpeting Carnosaur, Throes of Chaos, and Daring Discovery (with Hidden Volcano in the manabase). You can technically also run Hit the Mother Lode, but waiting until turn 7 to go off is not a great strategy
Anything with Discover exiles cards one-by-one, which means every one of them triggers Laelia.
Etali's Favor, Geological Appraiser, Trumpeting Carnosaur, Throes of Chaos and Daring Discovery are your Discover spells, though there probably are some 6+ cards (with maybe cheaper alternative costs) that can be included to increase resilience, and not requiring all lands to be Mountains allows for probably all the utility lands you can find in red, most notably Hidden Volcano which lets you Discover too.
All red discorver/cascade deck, MTGGolfdfish made a vide on it
It's her and any etali card
This really reinforces the idea that I want a historic brawl format without alchemy cards.
I've wanted that for a looooooooong time. I personally don't even play digitally-modified cards - I just really don't like them in my Brawl decks. Alchemy Brawl should be separate.
(I'm sure someone will mention the idea of Explorer Brawl. Explorer lacks a ton of cards that are simply staples in Brawl, like Swords to Plowshares or the fetchlands. That would miss the point.)
Because it's an alchemy card it can be errataed to "discard a nonland card". If they do that it still would be a cool commander, but it wouldn't be as stupid
I hope so. I'm going to use this as a thought experiment with the goal to see exactly how long it takes them to rebalance the card. If they get on it in a reasonable time, I'll cut them some slck I guess.
Fully agree. I really dislike the designs, perpetually, draft etc. really breaks paper magic rules which I get is what they wanted. I just really dislike it and it doesn't give me a good play experience. I typically conceeded if I see a digital only commander. I will use my time in another match.
@@connorbell5340 "seek a card with X" could be replaced by "reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a card with X, put it in your hand, then shuffle (or put the revealed cards on the bottom of your library in any/random order, both work) and the only difference is the hand/deck knowledge…
Nice.
Really liked the video, but hopefully now people will know how to play against this deck and it's winrate will drop.
For the mobile gamers who want to give this deck a try: my phone struggles with multiple things in this combo and when you try to target your Caldera Breaker with Corrupted Conviction, it moves all the way to the right because of all the lands exiled with it. So you have to scroll through all the lands to target your Caldera Breaker (which is harder than it sounds like, at least on my phone).
Btw, if your Crucias is still on the battlefield at the end of the turn in which you did the thing, it will fetch the Volcanic Geyser. So in that case you wouldn't necessarily have to draw it off your Corrupted Conviction and you can still win that turn.
Played against this deck, I know what it does, and still got wrecked. Knowing what to do and what the other decks does, not always mean you can avoid it.
@@dcrow9650A deck with literally any counter will win 100% of the time, or a deck with 2-3 spot removals. Both are increaibly common to run and if people know what this commander does then they can mulligan for them.
Sure, they might not have it, but when enough people see this deck from cgb or his minions that flood the queues with these decks, the WR is going to absolutely plummet through the floor and get so bad people wont want to play it anymore.
@@eewweeppkk If you know what you are playing against, I don't think you even need 2-3 spot removal spells. Just have one instant-speed removal spell for Caldera Breaker in response to its trigger and they cannot win.
[Opponent] *Taps out to play Gishath and draw 4 and put 15+ power on the board at once*
[CGB] Omae wa mo....
I left MTG arena for a while and come back to find SO MANY MORE BROKEN COMBOS. Wizards. Wizards....
yup, so glad I stopped playing arena because of crap like this, alchemy ruined it
@@lowskinator literally play interaction? alchemy did not invent interaction
Don't bother with Brawl, Wizards totally ruined it. I remember when it got released it used to be full of janky cards to reach the 100 card, now you quite literally lose to a combo every other game, really feels like Brawl is just MTGA's version cEDH, nothing janky or fun out there
@@TheSmartCinema Stop building your decks like a stupid commander deck. This isn't any where near the same format. Nor did alchemy ruin it. And most certainly is this deck not broken. Literally loses to one counterspell or removal. Some thing all decks have.
@@tonysmith9905 You would need specifically an exile-based, instant removal, which is not that common. Removing Crucias delays the combo, but doesn't stop it. Counters work, as does bouncing, but that means that only one color can deal with this deck optimally. And if you're mono green you might as well just scoop.
Switched the sac outlet for Diabolic Intent (which conveniently searches for those Volcanic Geysers so you can add any non-Mountain lands you wish) and added a Reanimate to avoid Caldera Discarding shenanigans and also for the early "discard Caldera with Phyrexian Scrapyard + Reanimate" win and got 9-0... Unbelievable.
Started playing the deck about a week ago and so far I'm around 32-3 with it. Got slaughtered in those 3 losses 😂 Glass cannon but still hella fun
@@homeboy2258 Yeah, any kind of "loses all abilities" card on Crucias and/or exiling the Caldera or countering its ability is the end, but that's what we got for playing glass cannon degenerate decks, I guess
Diabolic Intent is 2 mana. You win on turn 5 with no mana left if you use corrupted conviction, so unless you get a nut draw with mox amber that's worse
Diabolic Intent costs 2, so an extra turn. not worth
@@apoiio This is true, but Crucias does produce a treasure token at end step (if he's still there) and you'll have your two mana but it would take doing this on your opponents turn instead which is risky but still can be done.
34:20 lost to colorless? 100% glass cannon confirmed
Will also lose to Baral.
@@haggleboggle I mean. A lot of things loose to Baral.
@@haggleboggle Or just about any removal spell?
Somewhere out there magic the noah is having an unspeakably good time
Frrr
Man, this right here is what makes watching Boy in Blue so fun. I never know what random stuff he is gonna pop out and try to make it work and we get to enjoy the ride.
I guess we're gonna have to make some kind of Mesa Falcon theme deck sometime, and when it happen, it will be cool
I love all this embracing of the mesa falcon. Next up is mesa falcon merch!
For a moment, I thought it was The First Sliver as commander cascading into Tibalt's Trickery into Cultivator Collossus, then play all the lands from your deck and hit your opponent in the face for trample!
I saw someone bust this deck out against me a few days ago. Excited to see you play it!
It's worth adding 0-drop creatures to this list, like Ornithopter and Stonecoil Serpent. It gives you blockers to play on turns 2 and 4, and that's more important that drawing into redundant geysers.
There's also an alternative build running ~50 1-drops and seeking for Callous Sell-sword as the sac outlet. It lets you play a bunch of blockers, removal, and hand disruption. It's a stronger build overall, but if you're spending wildcards and casting multiple spells, you might as well play a real deck at that point.
Ayyy another budget brawl deck to add to my collection! I also have a Laelia the blade reforged deck that has 94 lands, but it doesnt seem as good as this(even though I have around 60-65% wr with it)
Thank you for the video!!! And in turn, a great heads up because I had never seen the combo before. Since the video, I have faced it 5 times and survived every time. It reminds me of the Leyla deck. When you know what's coming, it is almost too easy to stop. But I guess on the other hand, if you don't know what is coming, you are already dead 😅.
I started to play this when you told about on the live, its very funny deck! lol
Loved the Gruul ramp deck conceding out of shame when they failed to kill you, then you turned around and ramped out harder in one turn than they had over the course of the entire match.
I'm pretty new to MTG (I played maybe 50 hours of Arena 5 years ago, no experience playing paper) and I stumbled across this deck last week. I had never played Brawl and wasn't sure how to start constructing a deck, so I went to untapped to see what I could craft. I ended up crafting a Danitha, New Benalia's Light deck w/ a 38% win rate because it was the only deck I could craft. I played various formats for a bit, grew my collection, and went back to Untapped to see what other Brawl decks I could craft. I saw this again and decided to import it. God what an absolutely awful experience playing this deck is! I lost the first match because I didn't know how it was supposed to play (fell one turn short) and then won the next 6. It felt bad EVERY single time I won. I told myself that if I get a match up against the same player twice, I will concede the second match immediately. I may break this out if I am struggling to get some daily wins, but I feel like a major POS even loading into a match with this.
Why? It's fast, stylish, vulnerable, and doesn't prevent opponent from doing their thing. I don't mind losing to this kind of deck at all. It's the decks that take forever like sacrificing one thing at a time or going through their deck for ever or that just prevent you from playing that are a pain to play against, no?
I don't know any long term players who would get upset about losing to this. It's a turn 6 counterable combo that takes no time to execute. I would lose to this and think "Clever combo! Will hold counters if I see this commander in the future." Play what you want or can. This is not an offensive deck.
I guess one of the tricky things in the mulligan is if they're playing a fair Crucias deck, mulliganing heavily will be a death sentence as fair Crucias can 1-for-1 effectively even though mulliganing aggressively will work against the combo version. Also a discard spell will work against this deck after the 2nd Cruicias trigger (in addition to counterspells and instant speed removal).
I mulliganed to 3 to get black mana and it still hits on curve
Definitely a misplay to keep attacking thinking the opponent won’t block. You either pop them in the face for 60 or lose, it’s totally pointless to attack
its about establishing dominance not just winning
Time to run a deck of counter spells and farm these boys
Sliver queen, tibalts trickery, cultivator colossus, gates, and maze end
CONGRATS ON 200K!!!
since few months now this deck is a horror in the brawl matchups xD
Whatever you do; DO NOT PLAY THIS ON YOUR PHONE! You won't be able to select the golem for sacrifice (when you touch it, the mountains scroll out) and you will time out.
Must just be u
It's me too.
Do First Sliver, Cultivator Colossus, Tibalt's Trickery and 97 lands next.
Win with Maze's End and 10 Gates, Crawling Barrens, or a lethal Colossus. Stick lifegain lands in and you should survive off of your colossus turn.
So play an entirely different deck? Copy.
Probably been done like 2 years ago
Love the mana "curve" :-)))
"Only one correct number"
Nice.
Crucias, Titan of the Waves + Molten Duplication + Dualcaster Mage + 40 lands and 47 0-1 mana spells wins around 7-8 out of10 brawl matches. Extremely glass cannon deck.
If you include no cards above 1 mana except Molten Duplication and Dualcaster Mage you can combo on turn 4-5 every game by discarding 1 drops to Crucias's ability to guarenteed find your two combo pieces in 2 triggers/turns. Play discard, removal, spree cards, value creatures, X spells, etc to complete the deck.
Mesa Falcon shout out is such a great name!
Playing on my phone, when I hit breaker to sac him, all my lands spread out and it takes forever to find breaker, it won’t highlight him. Is there something in settings that will stop that?
Having this same issue
I remember winning so many games of MTG with volcanic geyser.... Excuse me great joy
Damn, I’ve been playing this for a few months to grind my wins. Now it’s more out there!
Counterplay is to counter the first cast then mill 3 cards, GG. Also, you can kill Breaker before the ability resolves and BOOM all lands exiled. Same if you exile it after ability resolves. Same if you just return it back to his hand for 1 mana with Fading Hope and BOOM, yes, all lands exiled anyway.
This deck is vulnerable to basically any interaction you can dream of. White, blue and black have plenty of good and cheap ways to stop the combo, and even red and green should have a few things they can do.
The deck basically wins due to the opponent's miscalculation: they tap out at the wrong time and give the combo player a window.
Just crafted, can confirm ridiculous
So much for having an easy combo to do my dailies with now 😂
Keeping the combo pieces in your opening hand is risky though because of all the low cost discard and exile spells
Thanks
Only recently did I actually look at the art for Crucias and saw how derpy his face truly is.
MonoBlackMagic would be proud
This is the all-in-est of combos.
I hope you make a deck around coveted falcon and greed’s gambit!
CGB, try: Laelia, the Blade Reforged as the Commander. X1 Etali’s Favor; x1 Throes of Chaos; x1 Geological Appraiser; x1 Daring Discovery; x1 Trumpeting Carnosaur; x94 Mountain.
There’s a glass cannon!
We are Mesa Falcons now. Oh my goodness.
I just tried playing this on mobile, but it's literally impossible due the interface. As soon as you try to sacrifice the Caldera, it just shows all the mountains underneath while moving the sacrifice target off the board. You even can't scroll to find it because the mobile interface is trash, especially for combo players
I had this issue too, thought it was just my phone. Fun deck and it might not look like you're scrolling but I promise you'll get to him if you keep scrolling through the lands. Keep up the grind, and be patient because you'll get a good amount of fast wins with this deck
A reason why this is one of the best preforming decks is because the Deck Weight is all messed up due to it playing so many lands.
The matchmaker thinks the deck is weak, so it often matches you up against weaker decks, letting you stomp on them.
TBH, they should massivly increase the matchmaking card weight of Cladera Breaker, since its never played fairly anyway.
Its not childish, its whimsical!
Dang, so much for my Lukka shenanigans.
I wish Crucias was printed on paper solely for the art
is this better than the sliver brawl with trickery and harvester using maze's end as the win con? I'm gonna have to make this and do like 20 of each to gauge win rates
Nope. Crucias decks get beat by interaction. Sliver gets beat by only land interaction which there is MUCH less of. And Sliver is technically 1-2 turns faster with optimal lands.
can someone tell me if there is a way to turn off the fact that when I go to sacrifice the Breaker it “unstacks” all the mountains and i have to slide through all 80 something the select him as my target to sacrifice
Ugh yes I will be absolutely building this as soon as I done watching and will play said deck for a multitude of hour's lol.
Whats the other deck like this treasure hunt? Where its all land and that card that with the diver on it?
I literally have the same deck but with one thought distortion against control
I’ve been playing this deck for a few months now lol
Kind of unplayable on mobile. When you go to sack the creature, it reveals all 80+ mountains stacked under it. You then have to swipe your finger across the screen like ten times to reveal the creature again, but sometimes as you swipe it sends the stack of mountains the wrong way. Lost one game because I couldn’t reveal the creature in time to sac it.
Now this is what we call power gaming.
"THERE'S ONLY 1 CORRECT NUMBER!!!"
😂😂😂
This is pure asinine and I love it
What is that colorless deck you keep loosing too that we havnt seen?
i'm not sure how i feel about this. Both components you need for the deck to work exclusively and ONLY exist in ARENA through their special "alchemy" set that is digital only. Cards that for all intensive purposes exist today, could be gone tomorrow.
Intents and purposes
Lol i was running a crucias combo like this over a year ago. Brawl is a balanced game mode :)
I feel like this is a golden opportunity to play a Crucias deck that idles until turn 3 and then does *anything* besides this combo. There's got to be some way to take advantage zigging while all of your opponents are expecting a zag.
I normally skip brawl because it would take me too many wild cards to play most of your decks; however, this one I could craft. What I liked best is NOT this deck, but that you mined untapped to find a fun deck to show us!
I just redownloaded arena and this is everywhere. I just want to play my jank :(
“Gish my ath” 😂
Wish there was a standard card pool singleton format that didn't have a command zone.
Is overmaster available on arena? I have to imagine the counter protection is worth running
My lesson, all my blue decks, +1 confounding conundrum
SMOKED THAT DUDE!!!!!
Does Arena not have Valakut? Sadness on the stack.
If it did, odds are low you'd see it with this combo.
It does not.
Whoever came up with this combo, should become CEO of wotc straightaway and president of the world. So hilarious.
now that we know how the hell que works . caldera breaker is 9 points, crucias, titan of the waves is 720 points corrupted conviction is 18 points. lands are 0. (total 747)
assuming a braw deck runs.
if a deck is 50 playable cards worth 9 points and popular commanders are at least 360 points. (810) if you run any GOOD brawl cards you get dinged 45 points (alseid of life's bounty is considered a 45point card.)
basically this is a guaranteed turn like 5 win against REALLY sub optimal decks (casuals)
Mesa Falcons Unite! 🦅🦅
I want Valakut on Arena now
YOU LEAVE MY GREEN ALONE!!! YOU BIG BULLY!!! XD
Would this deck benefit from dark ritual. At best it lets you combo one turn earlier, at worse its irrelevant.
Yaaay! Alchemy....so much fun.... Oh wait. It's not.
"How can we say Magic's a real game?" - fyp, Cgb.
Pretty sure hand disruption kills this, no? Like discard him as he approaches 6 mana. The deck doesnt have any counterspells or protection and view opponents hand cards range from cmc 1-3.
I'm actually grateful for this video. I've been farming netdeckers all day. Thanks CGB!
Hilarious! I've played Arena for over a year, but never played a brawl outside of MWM. I must have opened Crusias in a free pack or something, so I just crafted Caldera Breaker and replaced the rare lands I was missing with basics. I went 2-1, conceding a game where the opponent heisted my deck turn 1. No way to win at that point.
What can I say? He doesn't miss
his land drops.
i would love to see u play UW against it lol
What should I play if I don't really want to play, but have to get my daily's in 🤔🤣
Good video but as someone that just wants to play honest magic I hate stuff like this =(.
Magic: The Gathering the way that Dr. Richard Garfield intended it!
Everybody gangsta till i get a single counterspell
200K? Wow. When did this happen?
And this is why we play mindbreak trap
We have Doomsday at Home
