Super idea Ian! Thanks for sharing your knowledge at Bunnings carpark! This is the ultimate bike carrier. Im building my own based on yours! Patent this ASAP and start selling it mate. It will sponsor all your bike trips for the rest of your life! Cheers!
Solid engineering and brilliant versatility. Start manufacturing in the US and you would have a favorable market. There's nothing similar I've seen over here that swings away from the back, and can carry the gas can. Winning design. Thanks for sharing.
Great modifications for the swinging action. I would suggest that if you could move the Hitch connection portion of the rack that is from the receiver of the vehicle, to the opposite side of the vehicle, (right hand side), that the hinge is on, you would have a perfect unit and much more marketable. As you would be able to still utilize the receiver for small trailers and be able to lock/secure, the swinging rack at the opposite side (right side) of the vehicle. This would give you your swing away action , permit you to access the tail gate of the vehicle and have everything you already do with the added value of still being able to use the hitch receiver for towing Very good idea, patent it ASAP and let me know when you manufacture for marketing , I'll be a client!
Amazing Design! Great on restricting all degrees of freedom. Like that you included safety pins on the lock down handles By fair the best design, quick and easy to load and unload. Hope no big name has stole your design by now Great Job, cheers mate!
Great vedeo and great stuff mate 👍👏👌 well done 👏 it's a shame we can use that caind of stuffs here in Norway! We need user a trailer because it's not aloud nothing oversize of vehicles! That's stuff looks practically and safely!! But we can't putting on any vehicles 🤔🙄 cheers from Norway 👍👋
Great setup ! I'd be interested in hearing more about what you used for the main pivot hinge to bear all the weight when it is fulling swung open and you're loading the bike on?
Nice work mate. At first I couldn't work out how it worked with only one clamp, until you showed it sandwiching the peg. How do you think this setup would work with pivot pegs? ...not that it's an issue for you. I'm thinking your clamp design could also be adapted to work in a ute or trailer. Btw, your hitch mounted tyre changer is still serving me well.
Cheers mate, I’m stoked the changer is doing its job. I made a couple of new pieces to make it work on the ground, it really adds a lot of utility to it, I’ll be making it available soon with an attachment for 40mm hitch receivers included as well for $50 including postage. I’m certain it would work with pivot pegs as once it’s clamped the peg can’t pivot anymore. I agree having this clamping system for other applications would be a cool idea. Not only does it not load suspension or mousse tubes, but it’s quicker as well. When I finish a ride I load my bike and fasten it before I even take my helmet off, I love the setup.
I've been tooling around with peg fixing points in the trailer for a while bit nothing working easy enought I make it worthwhile. THIS!!!!! What are the latches called?
They are called “over-centre latches” I used extra heavy duty ones more so to look strong and because the lighter versions are stamped not cast, making the handles less nice on your hands. It’s definitely over-kill though.
ua-cam.com/video/fzQwwMBsFKU/v-deo.html One update I did was to zip ty the two pieces together to make it more convenient I also made a stop with some weld so the top piece can’t be stolen by kids when left unattended.
@@ian9toes it's brilliant. I hate tie downs, turnbuckles are a pain and cinch straps can be hard to pull down from low. I've got a tube inside tube set up but there's a bolt thing thru a plate sandwiching it.. Not happy with it. I'm buying gas for the welder and gonna try something like this.
David Forbes Yep I hated those things you mentioned too, especially because it would load up my mouse tubes which would shorten their life if left on the rack for a while.
With thousands of km’s on the system so far, this is pretty good evidence that a 2nd peg attachment is a complete waste of time. My whole design philosophy was to make something as convenient as possible and good enough to hold it on. Good enough is good enough. My email is ian9toes@hotmail.com
@@ian9toes geez mate I didn't mean to upset you. I said "for me" but that's because I always over do everything. And also I live in Thailand now and the police will look at my bike rack and try to find a fault for money.

Luv 'seat of the pants' engineering like that. Some of the best ideas come about over a beer. Great work.
Cheers, check out my latest version I’m pretty stoked with it.

This is so genius! You really need to pattend it and sell these. I would buy in a heart beat!

That sucks, governments always want too much control.

Thanks, I made a longer vid a while ago of the original version. The pivot point is mentioned at 7:45

That carrier is awesome. Did you build that yourself?
Yeah mate, thanks.
Very good job and nice pipe cage too
Cheers I didn’t make the cage though, they’re too much work.
I hope you wear something on your feet when you ride the bike.
Me too buddy , great idea I'll have one us poms would buy hundreds of them 😀

Nice mods Ian. For me I'd want the other peg chained down too,,,,,, just in case.
