You're right about the inserts, though; way too many.
Just bought one. I'm sure I'll likely display out of the wrapping but the wrapper and twine looks cool as well.
I also remember The Evil Dead describing the Necronomicon as 'written in blood and bound in human skin.' Each page opened one of the seven doorways to hell. It was the Evil Dead that popularized the Necronomicon into the mainstream. The Holy Grail book seems to have an identical following. You might also remember the movie 'The Ninth Gate.' Rare book collectors took their hobby very seriously and the Book of Shadows, written by Lucifer himself was how one would make contact with Lucifer. The background and lore buildup to the Ninth Gate was thorough and extensive, that movie did a superb job making the viewer believe.
How ironic that just two days ago on Record-ology's channel, he was showing the Henry Jones Sr. grail diary that he had purchased on Amazon and I've got to admit that for the price of $25 to $30, it's an excellent value and pretty substantial. :)
I completely submerged one in coffee. No ink bleed. Just get a spray bottle and fill it with cold coffee and spray a few pages at a time, let it dry, then repeat. With the cover, I just used brown acrylic paint.
Also, it’s not sown. It’s only held together with glue. That’s why I said used cold coffee and not hot cause hot will make it separate

Heath, if you wanna weather on the cheap, you could take some brown acrylic paint (any quality) & relatively large flat brush & dry brush it around the edges of your book cover. It creates a pretty cool looking distressed effect & it's budget friendly. I don't how well it work on the pages though. 😅 Hope this helps & awesome video! 😊👍
Tom Sullivan makes a similar replica of the Book of The Dead from the Evil Dead series. I know he sold them at cons - not sure if he still offers them. Real works of art!

I have a staff of Ra headpiece and a Hellraiser puzzle box. I paid about $250 for each and the quality was well worth it. I'd love to see a review of a more expensive diary.
First of all if this was a real diary chances are it would have been written with a fountain pen and non waterproof ink. Find a small corner of one of the pages and moisten it to see if it runs. You could also take a moist teabag and darken the white pages at the beginning and end to weather them, same on the edges of the paper. That does a good job on white paper without materially affecting the strength. Worked when I used to play D&D and wanted to weather paper before writing on it.
I had a buddy in Toronto who, as a side business, used to make his own Henry Jones Sr. grail diaries by buying old leather-bound books at thrift stores, by keeping the blank pages and tearing out any unwanted text, and then photocopying Zeppelin airship tickets and all of the inserted illustrations and notes he found off the internet.
He would age all of the papers, tickets, maps, inserts, etc. to give them that lived in look and sense of rugged history and would typically sell each diary he made for $250 to $350 on eBay.
Well Heath, thanks to you I got my Grail Diary this morning. I showed my wife and she felt it was well worth the 21.00 (I had some points). Too cool. Now how to weather it.
Love it, for the price it is a lot for the money. You will be able to distress it just get creative & mess with it a lot. I will need to pick one up for my birthday in a couple months.

Couldn't you try dark brown shoe polish to darken the "leather"?
I'm sure you could and even if you damaged the leather a bit or roughed it up, that would only enhance the aging of the grail diary to make it look more worn and more authentic.
Heck, for only $25 to $35 being the cost of those diaries, fans can take some chances to age the leather and the pages themselves.
There was a blu ray set from 2012, which came with a copy of the Grail diary. I think the one you showed may have copied some stuff from that one.

Any printed materials that you buy from a third party or on Etsy are almost always low quality. It’s almost like the seller sets their printer to the lowest quality ink settings.

Got one of these a couple years back and was super disappointed as it looked nothing like the pictures advertising it and was just very cheap in quality. Then I got another from a different “store” about a month later and was also disappointed with that. These Grail Diaries are just a ripoff.
$25 isn't exactly breaking the bank and for that bargain price, one has to have realistic expectations when it comes to the quality of those grail diaries, especially when more authentic-looking ones can cost collectors hundreds of dollars.
Considering the number of inserts, maps, illustrations, stamps, tickets, and some of John Williams' scores thrown in for good measure (albeit breaking the fourth wall), those grail diaries are an excellent value and launching point for any fans that would want to age the diary and pages themselves or add other customization. :)

Yeah, they look really neat and for the bargain price of $25 give or take, it's a no-brainer to scoop up one of those grail diaries (or a few of them to add personal customization if so desired). :)
