Marc Crawford just standing behind the bench with the smug look of a guy who knew exactly what he sent the goons out to do. Shame he wasn't taken for millions in court & more of a shame people still listen to him as some kind of expert hockey mind.
Just cause the coach sent out his tough guys doesnt mean he should lose millions of dollars LMAO, the dudes on the ice are grown men, they made their own choices. The elbow moore put on the canucks player could've had the same outcome but it didn't.
You have to wonder whether the 3 neck fractures happened when he face planted or when there was roughly 700lbs of man piled on top of Moore after. Definitely the punch didn’t fracture the vertebrae.
This incident never would’ve happened if the referees would have shut down the first incident when Markas Naslund got taken out. No they didn’t give anyone a penalty so it was allowed to fester and build up the then boom. Retaliation was on.
Don't blame the felon that almost killed a guy and for some ungodly reason was ever allowed to step back on NHL ice (let alone any ice surface), blame the refs. Typical Canucks fan.
Best part of this is the Canucks played like a bunch of dirty lil weasels and lost focus on hockey and lost 9-2 and sacrificed one of their best players for the remainder of season to take out a 4th line player and they ended up losing game 7 on home ice to their biggest rival the Flames who go on to lose game 7 of the finals by a goal . Bertuzzi was never the same dominant player after this incident .

Moore picked his spot by fighting a young Matt Cooke. that isn't retribution. I don't agree with Bertuzzi but this kind of things happen when the refs stop players from giving other player much needed beat downs.
Must be nice when Colorado picks smaller guys in every fight. Moore faked the injury for money. But you are American so you are fine with being a coward for all of your life. Go hide behind your lawyer. What a beta male. Avalanche are lucky that the Canucks didn't go after your starts but they actually get the game of hockey. Granato was a great coach. If Moore would have fought Brad May on the 2nd, or just fought Bertuzzi I think it would have settled down big time. I’m not saying the sucker punch wasn’t dirty because it was and should not have happened, but May should have just took his lumps and fought
Man I remember watching this game live with my mom (Thank you NHL Center Ice!). We could tell it was gonna get way out of hand from the game before it and boy oh boy! Refs didn't control it from the start. They should have known it was a powder keg getting ready to blow
Right, because the refs could have done anything to stop this. You didn't play hockey, did you? What are they going to do, throw someone in the box every time someone opened their mouth or checked someone? Change the rules and throw someone out of the game after a single fight for "potential future misdeeds"? The only thing that could have stopped this from happening was canceling the game before it happened, and the refs have no control over that. What exactly do you think the refs could have done differently? This should be good.
@@bookemdanno5596 I actually played hockey my whole life and I've refereed youth high School and junior hockey. Exactly my thoughts, fighting Matt Cooke simply wasn´t enough and afterwards he kept refusing everyone. That sucker punch from behind by Bertuzzi was dirty as hell, but on the other hand if Moore would answer the bell, none of that shit would have happened. If you want to injure a star player like Naslund with a dirty hit, you just need to be a man, accept the consequences and fight. I love that Tony Granato, a guy who literally clubbed another player over the head with his stick in an on ice assault, and Rick Tocchet, a great hockey player with a history of eye gouging and other cheap shit, are so apoplectic on the bench. Maybe if Naslund had sued Steve Moore in court initially none of this would have happened. Steve Moore gave a cheapshot and took a cheapshot. You live by the sword, you die by the sword in hockey. I'm not saying it's fair, I'm just saying it is what it is.
Seems like Steve Moore wanted to address what happened but only on his terms and sorry that’s not how it works…. Had he just been a man and fought anyone who CHALLENGED HIM! Not Cooke who clearly wasn’t ready to go…. He definitely would of played longer had he just dropped the gloves…
Thinking the same thing watching this. He should've just dropped em. Would have definitely played longer. But he didn't and the Canucks were just itching to get at him
Yep. Moore should have just fought, or the Avs coach should have made him a healthy scratch that night because he had to know that Vancouver wanted to kill him
Moore never got to play again cause of bertuzzi, missing out on contracts in the future while bertuzzi gets to finish his career. Dumbest comment I ever read
Clearly you haven't seen enough hockey. "The Code" is such bullshit. It never was and never has been a thing. And don't even even get me started on the evidence of this - you'll be here for the next ten years.
The only difference between Moore’s flying elbow on Naslund and Bertuzzi’s hit on Moore was that Moore was hurt worse. That flying elbow Moore threw could’ve ended a lot worse as well.
Forget all the blame game and other nonsense. This basically ended Bertuzzi's career, even though he played for another decade. He was probably the most dominant power forward of that era (I always thought of Iginla as a true sniper), and looked to be putting a hall of fame caliber career together. This incident cost him his edge. I remember watching him as a Red Wing. He played passively, and refused to engage physically. He wouldn't even step in for Datsyuk or Zetterberg when he was the only capable guy in the room to do so (bad roster building, but that's a separate story). And losing that physical edge certainly didn't benefit his goal scoring any. Dude was a power forward. Sure, some of those guys could legit snipe (like Cam Neely), but most power forward goals were scored in dirty areas off physical play. It's pretty obvious that Todd Bertuzzi was embarrassed, and more importantly remorseful in regards to this incident. His behavior afterwards proved it.
And by the way, if you did want to blame someone, Brad May might be the best candidate. His behavior throughout the game instigated his own teammates to keep acting like goons well past the point that it should have been over. Everything he does after the first fight with Worrell is just throwing gasoline on a grease fire.
@BadstreetMI agreed. May could just as easily have suckered Moore before Bertuzzi did, he was no stranger to dirty play. There's a lot that could have/shouldn't have happened in this game. Just adds to the intrigue...

The sucker punch caused the concussion, but the dog pile is what broke Moore’s neck.
