  • If perfectionism is making you procrastinate, holding you back from starting or finishing projects, or preventing you from trying new things, you might have "analysis paralysis". In this video, I address some of the mental hurdles you might be facing, as well as give you an update on how I've struggled with this mentality (and still do), and what I'm doing to overcome it.
**Also it's so great to be back, guys! Thanks for all your support while I've been away!**

As a fellow perfectionist, I love this video!! Perfectionism really leads to so many crippling emotions and blocks creativity. I'm learning to overcome it every day.

From my experience with perfectionism, I've realized that it won't let me learn and do new things just because of the thought that I won't be good enough in the first try. So this way I'm not growing mentally and emotionally. We just stay in a place where we end up doing nothing perfect just because we don't have a process. Yes it is very toxic we have at least try and accept ourselves. Thank you for this video great timing 🤗❤️

"Consciously choose the opposite of what you feel" -- when it comes to perfectionism, there is sense in that, since giving in to perfectionism means giving in to fear and self-sabotage.
I have to choose to be brave and focus on essentials, on "travelling light". I like to think of David running to meet Goliath head-on -- without the encumbrance of armour, a shield and a spear (etcetera).
One might let one's urge to excel take care of itself. I think it might be a good idea to focus on ENJOYING myself in the first place -- all the rest ("passion", "drive", "making a living") could follow after enjoyment. Especially in the case of a person who is already intense to begin with.
I absolutely agree with the points you make, about the need for healthy striving. Also being humble and just taking things step-by-step. It's true that burnout is a real danger if one loses perspective.
Thank you for the practical tips -- very helpful!
Have you read Timothy Gallwey's "Inner game" books? (e.g. The inner game of tennis, The inner game of music, The inner game of golf, The inner game of work, The inner game of skiing, The inner game of stress [I've only read the first two myself] -- they are all based on the same principles.) It's worth it, especially for people who tend to get bogged down due to perfectionism.
    Here's a short summary I found at theinnergame.com:
Changing How We Work and Play
When first published in 1974, the Inner Game of Tennis was a real revelation. Instead of serving up technique, it concentrated on the fact that, as Gallwey wrote, “Every game is composed of two parts, an outer game and an inner game.” The former is played against opponents, and is filled with lots of contradictory advice; the latter is played not against, but within the mind of the player, and its principal obstacles are self-doubt and anxiety.
Gallwey’s revolutionary thinking, built on a foundation of Zen thinking and humanistic psychology, was really a primer on how to get out of your own way to let your best game emerge. It was sports psychology before the two words were pressed against each other and codified into an accepted discipline. Tim Gallwey has masterfully applied the Inner Game to Sports, as well as Business and Health…
Please forgive me if you've already mentioned this in a video. Sometimes I struggle to remember things.
PS. Your art work is ASTONISHING -- you are doing so well, it's glorious!

This is so helpful! I am a huge perfectionist and it prevents me from stepping out of my comfort zone-from the constant fear of failure! I will definitely take note of these tips and hopefully I stop trying to be so perfect :))

I got to the part where you encourage viewers to comment and say something about our own experience with creativity. I used to be more creative when I was younger.
At the moment I'm floating a bit. I'm not being creative in a serious sense, more I think in a very ordinary way, for relaxation. I'm thinking about trying to prepare for a really difficult time. Think Matthew 24 ... (The Great Reset, etc.) In Europe and the US many people are concerned about food security and inflation. (UA-cam channels such as I Allegedly, Peak Prosperity, Appalachia's Homestead, Health And Homestead and Beyond Gold & Silver focus on various aspects.) That's an issue where I'm living too, so that's my main focus now.
I'm glad that there are still places where people can escape the worst of that!

This has been in my queue for 10 months!?? Yup I'm a perfectionist lol! I only wish I would've seen this right away, but this video was exactly what I needed to hear today, thank you! I've recently began Morning Pages (from the Artist's Way) and it's been helping me already, 5 days in. Anyways, I too bought the 2nd wedding dress I tried on! :)

Botticelli hair ... I checked it on the Internet just now and saw it's been a trend for 2022 -- now I know!
