Thanks for this video. I understand why I need to customize my resume for each job application. But as the employer, would you not be bothered if you see that the job details and skills on my customized resume do not exactly match the ones on my LinkedIn profile?
it's gotten to the point where living in late communist east Germany or as a medieval farmer isn't some horrid fate, rather, a blessing compared to the hellscape called the modern world.
Last time I got a job was during COVID. Basically if you had a pulse you'd get hired. Complete night and day difference this time. I guess things have to get worse before they get better.
What’s crazy to me is the difference in job markets. I’ve been applying for jobs around the St. Louis area, and it is extremely difficult to get a job. As a “test”, I decided to apply for some jobs around Tampa, FL yesterday afternoon, and already have 3 virtual interviews set up. No doubt, location can make a huge difference.
Personally i used GPT 4 to write the outline for a cover letters for multiple job postings. I uploaded a screenshot of my resume, a screenshot of the full job posting, and BAM a wonderful cover letter was output. I then went in and did some light editing to make it even better. It turned a 1 hour exercise into a 5 minute breeze!
Where have you been my entire career?? I have learned so much in just a short amount of time. You are well spoken and very informative. Very appreciative! Thank you😊
I use AI to write cover letters and rewrite my skills when I am doing a SOQ for State Jobs. It has helped me get interviews and hopefully I will be getting a job soon.
I'm 99% sure your linkedin profile is supposed to be your cat or dog. that's who they're going to hear in the background on every call, they should know what chewie looks like right out the gate.
I worked as a painting contractor for about 20 years. And now I have a normal job but i'm looking for a better one. I would love to see a video about The most effective way for a contractor to make a resume
I used AI headshots, just the least expensive option, since I was recently layed off and being VERY careful with funds. That option still gives plenty of photos - and as Brian said - it really is impressive! I have grown my hair out though, and am just a bit "grayer" but of course have it slicked back and in a ponytail for interviews, as I did for my 1st one. Again, it's quite amazing what AI Insta headshots generated. I have a much better profile pic now, and feel it is worth it! As for Teal, I started it on my phone. Don't. It's not designed for mobile (yet) do it on your computer. Thank you Brian and Life after Layoff for the good tips, and for being Pro-Employee.
God I hate applying. Its so insufferable. I hate being so inauthentic. Yeah because I'm so passionate about... sauce. Why do you demand passion for that? Why is it you want someone who isn't in it for a pay check and yet nobody who has ever asked that question ever, doesn't receive a paycheck hmm? I'm passionate about not starving to death.
Massive has huge potential, but in its lowest-cost paid plan, it can only submit you for 20 jobs per WEEK. I find 20 jobs per day to apply to during most weeks. That and the poor search parameters make it a "not ready for prime time" idea.
Thanks for this info, brother. I did a post about the limitations of AI, ATs and the human brain. All have limitations and aren’t “end all be all”. Keep up the good work.
Can you make a video based on: I am 40yr, but I am finishing up a bachelor degree this year in tech. Would removing my experience from 12 years ago from my LinkedIn and resume be a solid way to combat ageism? Considering background checks only go as far as 10 years?
Hello I watch all your videos thanks for sharing. I learned so much. Quick question, I show no videos about this issue. I currently have over 16 years of experience in a field, I don't look my age and people that interview me don't believe me on my experience. I am 38 and look 28. What can I do? Please help. Should I tell them my age so I look more creditable in the interview?. I have a job interview coming up. Thank you so much for helping and thanks for all the good videos.
Question : What about AI tools that you can practice interview answers on? A year ago I saw a company (I forget the name), but you can answer interview questions typical of the job you are applying for, and it will score you 1 out of 10 on your answer. This can enable rapid practice in private.
Massive seems really cool until you realize every feature is behind a paywall. I get it they need to make money but I was hoping to get at least better filtering that linkedin for free. Has the same problem as every job board that you put in your 3 years experience and you get shown jobs that need 7-10
Can i ask something off this topic? I currently work at a new company that has budgeted me 1500.00 to do the same project that cost the company 60k in 2023. I have the facts and figures, all in the financials. It is unrealistic. This cost cut has made it so I will not receive bonuses. 😮 i have emailed my boss with no reply yet. Should i speak to HR about this or get an attorney?
No, I’m actually partnering with them. The tool can help speed up customization but can’t make a good original resume. (How can AI know what you’ve accomplished?) Most people think it’s a magic solution and think it will turn their crappy resume into a work of art. And then get discouraged when they still don’t get call backs. AI is a tool to supplement, not replace.
Using AI outside of medial fields or hard sciences is not ethical, all together. Let's be frank. Will take decades or a century for humanity to realise but we will eventually get there.

AI submitting resume and AI evaluating my job applications. Wow. It's a new world. I think I will go back to farming.
Where AI is driving your impossible to maintain high tech farming vehicles?
You need AI to do that too
it's gotten to the point where living in late communist east Germany or as a medieval farmer isn't some horrid fate, rather, a blessing compared to the hellscape called the modern world.
I'm just imagining someone applying to jobs using AI and getting hired by a company's AI system only to have their role replaced by AI.
Last time I got a job was during COVID. Basically if you had a pulse you'd get hired.
Complete night and day difference this time.

that would be ironic!
Ironic, but totally realistic tbh 😆

@@Glamerth Nice and congrats!🍾
@@santafilipina9020 thank you! 🙏
Soon companies will be interviewing my ai, then my ai will go to work for me
Can your AI collect unemployment or get you fired for inappropriate comments, too? 😅
You have to file your AI on your taxes🙃
@@GrantCrowell probably, but I can probably over employ my ai with little issues

These are super helpful tools, thank you! Already downloaded Notion.
Enjoy!
notion is amazing, use it daily. don't be intimidated by everything it can do right out the gate, just use one thing at a time then work your way out.
I've used the free version of Teal - it didn't improve my bullet points all on its own, but their AI suggested helped me write stronger ones.
$50 for a profile photo?! You are kidding me!
You can't even get a JCPenney portrait for $50.
@@ALifeAfterLayoff
Who cares? Charging $50 in advance without showing the final result is ridiculous.
lol just look for reviews online so you have an idea what to expect@@andrewzt5044

Does the headshot generator sell our selfie photos or use it to train their ai for future products?
According to their ToS, they may use our pictures (AI and non AI) for other purposes
You can request to delete your account or not sell data I think
So ridiculous that we even need a headshot generator don’t ya think? What do you think is the reason for that? Shouldn’t your resume speak for itself?
Teal is AMAZING
Omg, dude, navigating all these tools and techniques is a pain in the, well, you know.
Your videos are always top-notch. ❤❤❤
Great video! Keep providing these types of content for job seekers, it's very helpful!
I currently do not trust third-party AI-based services to handle my personal information gracefully.

Teal has no online demos of how it actually performs to reference. You just have to spend the money, and then hope that it works.
@policani I just started using Teal and found this video helpful: ua-cam.com/video/iXtP_-7Ha70/v-deo.html
Professional headshots? That’s exactly what actors do!!
Massive has huge potential, but in its lowest-cost paid plan, it can only submit you for 20 jobs per WEEK. I find 20 jobs per day to apply to during most weeks. That and the poor search parameters make it a "not ready for prime time" idea.
You are very professional and do a great job, thank you for insights
why do companies interviews you but then hires someone internally instead? this is so frustrating. can you explain that on a video?
Ask if they are interviewing internally as well. If they are, you can always walk away right then and there. 👢
Because their not impressed & decide what they have is better
You were not that good for the them to neglect the internal candidate. You were not that big of a plus. Simple as.
The internal candidates are always cheaper and they are already prescreened in terms of soft skills, and possible mental issues.
they have to prove they at least looked outside their workplace but really had someone they knew already in mind
Imagine using ai to get a remote job then doing the job with an ai bot
You know yourself the best
God, I hate all of this.

These apps are outrageously priced given you have no assurances using them what kind of quality you are going to get out of them.
What is the price of each tool? Pls list.
Thanks!
You bet!
Are you sure its a repost because of video editing or because it got a lot of negativity yesterday! 🤔
It didn't get a lot of negativity? I needed to remove something brand-specific.
Now that this is public, there's no more 'unfair advantage' 😜
2023: AI is gonna kill us all!! 😩
2024: AI is gonna hire us all!! 😆

I can’t speak for their pricing strategy but I can say it’s a useful tool for an active job seeker.
First thing I noticed. Its search options were limited, and then it spit out a long list of jobs that I require additional skills I don't have.
Do any of these cost money or require membership?
Some do, some don't. Notion is free and is a great tool.
this video is too good. *whispers* I am downloading it to my hard drive before you delete it! hahaha
Repost to fix an editing error? 🤔
Yup, happens to the best of us sometimes.
Massive appears to have limited search parameters and, it will cost you, you left that out.

Absolutely. What's the name of company? Also use AI to generate email to HR and follow ups.
Forget HR. They are not your friends. They exist to protect the company from you. Get an attorney.

They did not pay me to include them in this video. Watch closer.
@@ALifeAfterLayoff that still doesn’t answer the question friend.
Hmmm. I believe it was bugs bunny that said "if you can't beat em...."
Very wise, indeed.
Photo's on CV's are frowned upon, far too ego based bs, it leaves you open to bias and ATS checkers can't properly analyze embedded images, graphics.
most of there cost money and if you dont have a job you dont have money to spend
I tried the Insta headshots and they turned out soooooo bad. Waste of money.
Using an AI image of yourself is not ethical IMHO
Using AI outside of medial fields or hard sciences is not ethical, all together. Let's be frank. Will take decades or a century for humanity to realise but we will eventually get there.
I will check each one out, and see the results. This is awesome, and a good way to get me linked into Ai.
Here’s a question…..What if you’re trans and you have not legally changed your name?!??
You use the legal name, and if the company has a preferred name, choose it
It's obvious. You sue them for discrimination and live off of the legal winnings!
