There's a very insane attention to detail in the Mega Man Zero series. A historian once said that society collapses every 250-300 years with example being World W@rs, Thirty Years W@r and the Black Plague. When does the Elf W@r takes place? Yes! 250-300 years later than the world w@rs. So the Elf w@rs was yet another Society Collapse event in human history.

The second phase of Dr Weil is peak final boss design. Everything about him looks so nightmarish from the horn with red eyes to the huge cables swerving underneath. You can even see the highlight of his face behind the yellow core. He really wasn’t kidding when he said that he was the devil.

I like to think that he is, as it's very simbolic that in the ending of the series Zero does the very thing that no robot previously did, break the laws of robotic and kill a human, it's also an analogy with how a machine can be more human than an actual human.

Dr. Weil's 2nd phase is hands down my favorite boss fight out of the Zero series and one of my favorite Mega Man Bosses of all time (End Game Bosses only). The theme itself doesn't sound as awesome as Supreme Ruler does to me, but Falling Down has the emotion going for it because this is Zero's ultimate sacrifice as well as his final fight. It has the right atmosphere, sound, music, emotion, and not to mention, the most sadistic Mega Man villian to Date and if Capcom ever makes a ZX3 or Legends 3, then they're gonna have to come up with someone worse then Weil. Also, nice artwork:]

this fight mirrors X4 so much
While he failed to save Iris in X4, now he was able save Ciel along with rest of the world
"Ragnarok" has similar meaning to the "Final Weapon"
Ragnarok means "The ultimate destruction of the gods" which hints at the plot that Zero who created to be the "god of destruction", and that he would face his final fate here.

    Another thing as well.

  • @lordmonarch2995

Another reason why that fight was so epic is because if that Space Colony had hit the Earth everyone would be dead. The ultra Violet radiation hitting the Earth would wipe out anyone within a limited radius. Neo Arcadia is destroyed because of the fuck you laser, and the resistance base and area zero isn’t that far away from each other. Zero LITERALLY sacrificed himself to save the planet! And Weil’s anger and animosity made manifest in that scene with him fusing with the colony in a very painful way as the metal forces it’s way into his body. If he can’t rule over humanity and there shouldn’t be a humanity! Yeah the game felt empty because X and the guardians wasn’t in the game but it feels a little better because of it because the game was about tying up loose ends. Settling the score with Weil the bastard that fucked yo the planet with that war he started hundreds of years ago!

I remember this battle as a kid when I played it for the first time and there's so much that stuck with me:
    1. After beating Weil, I figured there would be a second fight, but then once Zero started talking to Ciel I realized we didn't have TIME for a second fight: we are out of time and then....
    2. Weil rises up again and you're just left thinking, "Shoot, can he even die?" and then he tells you something I hadn't really considered...
    3. We come up with a plan to blow Weil's core up and it carries some pretty grim implications: If we kill Weil, we're Maverick. Going Maverick doesn't have reasons for justifying it. If we kill a human, that's it. Zero hasn't done this in MMZ and I don't believe he kills any humans in the X series so this is a huge deal: it's the central conflict of the whole series. The other major implication is...
    4. Ciel says "what will happen to you?" and it is completely ignored. When that Dialogue went ignored I knew what it meant. I'd played each of the Zero games and grew to love this character and it was my first real brush with a game that had the balls to definitively put an end to it's hero. It was wild and they told me the answer without saying a word. Finally....
    5. Weil turns into a monster and Zero gives that rousing speech about fighting for those who he believes in and asks that person to believe in him now and it's just perfect to pump you up for what you know is the very last fight you get to feel with this character.
The game wasn't as memorable as the others for me but the ending is something that I still think is one of the best endings to a series I've ever seen. Thanks for this video and allowing me to express my thoughts and reminiscence on this great experience.

I love your channel man, I have loved the MegaMan Franchise ever since I was a child (I'm 24 y.o. as of writing this), and I started with X8, and Zero was always my favorite character, he became my favorite character ever in any piece of media. (Rivaled only by Shadow The Hedgehog but that's for another day), and this final fight, Zero having the resolve to fight for his loved ones (Not caring about justice, just pure love for them) and him making the ultimate sacrifice in such an intense and glorious fight that felt like THE GREATEST THING EVER WAS GOING ON RIGHT HERE. (It's even Biblical in a way, Jesus Christ said "There's no greater love than that who gives his life for a loved one")
It's just amazing, it leaves me with a sense of satisfaction like almost no other game or game series ever has. The Zero Series is the epitome of 2D game design (for me), the Epitome of the MegaMan Franchise not just gameplay wise but story wise as well, and even when I love Mega Man so much, I am aware the franchise is FAR from perfect and stories aren't its strong suit, but to find THE ABSOLUTE GEM that is the Zero Series in said franchise is poetical, (Shout-out to the Legends Series as well or its mysterious aura, and the many other MegaMan Series for their creativity!)

What I really like most about this fight is the tragic irony tracing back to Dr. Wily. As we learned in Mega Man 11, he originally created the Double Gear system so that robots could be heroes and be their own individuals instead of just tools for humanity. In his final days, he never anticipated that his final creation, his tool of destruction and way of finally out doing Dr. Light, would end up being the hero he longed for. His creation's sacrifice paved the way for peace between humanity and machinery.

While making a real life douchebag like Thomas Edison be the basis of an all around good guy scientist in Rockman.

    • @TheFearsomeRat

Zero would actually be invoking the 0th Law of Robotics, "A Robot may not harm humanity, or by inaction allow humanity to come to harm", the 0th law makes it so that under specific cercumstances a Robot is allowed to harm an individual,
and you can make the argument that Wile is no longer human considering the obvious machinery underneath his body, and the fact that he effectively says that he is an A.I before the Phase 1 fight, in which case the 0th law would not need to be invoked.
      -
And this is assuming Wily even programmed Zero with the Laws of Robotics in mind, as there is a very real chance that both X and Zero are actually capable of not following the laws of Robotics of their own free will or are simply not programmed with them, the last two Robot Masters being the only ones that aren't bound by the Laws of Robotics is an interesting thought however.

I absolutely love this fight - the famous quote at the beginning of the fight, by Zero, being my introduction to any other MegaMan series beyond Classic and X, and to this day, I still consider this the peak of the series' storytelling.
The whole self-sacrifice part of the battle was always sad, but I think it carries a feeling of... peace as well. Once Weil was gone, Earth probably would become a peaceful place where he honestly would've served no purpose. In fact, I wholeheartedly believe he might've asked to be put to rest for good, because that would mark the end of the cycle of conflict that had plagued the Earth for generations - no X, no Zero, no Weil; just humanity and reploids walking hand in hand towards a brand new future, where the strength of ancient "heroes" will hopefully be never needed again.

I've always felt like the entire game exists for this moment alone. Zero 4 often feels like the awkward entry in the series, struggling to live up to 3's greatness and often falling short. There's a great underlying story, but the execution of it is not great and the gameplay just isn't as good as 3's either. Pretty much everything before Ragnarok feels like it's more flawed than it is genuinely good.
Once you get there though, all the pieces finally come together and the game starts to shine more brilliantly than the entire Zero series before it. This is it, the ultimate finale. Not just the end of the game, but the conclusion to Zero's story as well. You can feel the ever present sense of doom throughout the whole place, and yet Zero must fight on to protect that which he has come to care about, and for the future those he cares about have struggled so hard for. Even if that means he won't be in it.
Those final words, especially the part where he says "I never called myself a hero", are what really put the cherry on the top of the finale sunday. This isn't about doing the right thing to Zero, he's not acting out of a sense of good vs evil. He doesn't see his actions as a noble sacrifice for the greater good. He's just doing what he needs to. An enemy has appeared in front of him, and whether it's the right thing to do or not he is resolved to defeat it. Even if it means the end of him.

And of course, you likely know how I feel about the final event, really just a solid end and ending.

@@PrimeShiem A lot of people say that the series should have just ended with 3, but honestly I feel like 4 was necessary. Sure, you deal with Omega in 3, but Weil is still a threat. It would be weird to have that threat still looming and then just end the series there, or worse move on to ZX for the next game and just leave what happened to Weil unanswered.
It might have been a bit of a rocky path getting there between 3's ending and most of 4, but 4's ending is the perfect ending to the Zero series and for Zero as a character, so much so that the game is saved from being a mediocre entry into actually being good, though I'm still kinda salty about how the recipe system was handled.

    • @Crow_Rising
      @Crow_Rising Рік тому +4

@@PrimeShiem Honestly I feel like the recipe system could have been fixed pretty simply by making three simple changes:
      1. Give the player every recipe from the start so that they know what they need to make what thing.
      2. Add in an additional menu screen to the crafting menu that lists out every part, what level to find it in, and what enemy drops it.
      3. Tweak the drop rates of health and EC to be about what they were in Zero 3 without making the parts more rare. Some parts should also be made more common to make them less of an annoying grind.
This would make the whole system much less awful to deal with.

in a way, it does, if you think about it, Zero here saves what was left of the human race, which ends up making the surviving human and reploids finally live in peace, which was Dr. Light's ultimate wish...ironic that it was Wily's final creation that made it possible.

Mega Man 7. After Wily's 7 world domination attempts, managing to break out of capture, and making it very personal by tricking him into bringing an enemy into his own lab, Mega Man is at his limit, and decides Wily is too dangerous to be left alive. His programming stops him.
100 years later, a robot named X is unearthed who may have true free will, and has no limitation against killing humans. His creator left him to be tested autonomously due to the danger this could pose to society.
...Then the entire X series goes by and humans are barely even mentioned at all.
Thanks for picking up the slack, IntiCreates.

yeah z4 and zx/zxa do a great job on focusing on the humans that the x series tended to neglect

I have to say, this is a great video and final battle! But i do believe there is something that truly stands out about this fight, at least to me
Zero has conquered many challenges and foes along his journey, the Mavericks, Sigma, Omega, etc... but if there was one opponent he had yet to truly face, it was Wily.. the person who created and made Zero into an unstoppable killing machine in the first place. And in my eyes, Weil fighting Zero can be a symbolic representation of Wily fighting his own creation. I am aware Dr. Weil and Wily are two completely different people, but ill admit at the same time, there are some eerily close similarities between them. Both are old scientists, both want to rule the world, and both have a bone to pick with Zero... and despite all that they have done, Zero still comes out ontop! Although it did cost his life...(again really tho, Zero dying and then coming back from the dead really isn't really a surprise at this point but still)
This battle in my opinion, was not only the final battle for Zero, but his final mission too. Just like how Rock and X have finished their missions, Zero is done with his too, and i think he earned a well-deserved rest!
What a way to end the conflict thats been raging on since 20XX!

They are both supremacists, one a human supremacist (Weil) and one a robot supremacist (Wily)... And while Zero did achieve Dr Light's dream of man and machine living in peace, it also, ironically set the world on the inevitable road to seeing Wily's dream be achieved. Machine supremacy, free of the burdens of humanity.

I’m probably the only one that noticed this but, Zero 4 managed to pull a Sonic Adventure 2 Finalhazard, who did it better? No! They both did it amazingly well! Both have one of the characters die, both have emotional end credit themes and even their own ending screenshots with Zero’s broken helmet and a transparent Shadow the Hedgehog in front of the Earth. However Falling Down deserves just as much love as Live & Learn. It’s always about the Megaman 2 Wily Stage Theme.

There is not a series since that has just made me exclaim how freaking cool of a scene it is. The music, the atmosphere, the stakes, the dialogue, the meaning behind Zero's resolution from his years of existential crisis. He was born out of hatred and for a purpose that has plagued the world for centuries, but he's come to the conclusion. He doesn't give a crap what he's labeled anymore. He's got one life, and he's not hesitating anymore. He's going to end it all, right here and now.
    So freaking cool.

Nah, Wily created Zero to remove the corrupt humanity from the earth, to let machines be free... And Zero achieved Light's dream by destroying countless machines based on light's designs (reploids), and made peace between man and machine, but also ended up setting man on the path to extinction, as we saw with Legends. Wily won, while also giving his former friend one last gift.

Zero's quote before the fight is my favoritr videogame quote ever.
This final fight is perfect for Zero thematically too.
It fufills X's dream of leading to a world where reploids and humans can live in peace.
It fulfills Dr. Wily's dream in a sense as well. Zero defines the role of being a " Maverick" to kill Dr. Weil who is technically a human.

In several aspects, Weil is a better final boss than Omega. Whilst Omega’s 3rd phase is fastpaced and truly amazing, i feel Weil outdoes Omega’s first 2 phases by a long shot. Also the story is much better done. Omega mightve been set up as a threat duringthe entirety of 3, that’s mostly what he was, a massive physical danger. Weil is the mastermind behind all the suffering, now also a physical threats, and there is simply more dialogue between the two (omega has only one real sentence apart from saying zero’s name)
Zero 4 was the best way this serie couldve ended, and they made the main character death not sad but metal af

And his final creation, by achieving Light's dream, puts the world on the inescapable path to achieving Wily's dream, in Legends.
