Thanks for showing us these things. We are truly in the last days. There Alot of desolate places. I pray for your safety as you continue this work. God bless.
I was born in Canton (1955) just a 30 min drive North to Akron, I always liked Akron being a really nice town at that time. Of course, that was before the tire manufacturers decided to pull out, I dated a lot of gals in Akron and many times took them to "Quaker Square" and had pizza at the Depot Restaurant there. Honestly, Akron like Canton has been in a downward spiral since the late 70s. I left Canton over 20 yrs. ago, way too much crime, drugs and gangs (broke my heart to see Canton go down hill like it has) to continue to live there, I really miss Akron and Canton the way they use to be, as they both have changed forever along with the rest of the Country and not for the better.......
Sadly the places built to replace them will never have the same feel. Now it is big housing developments with Karens and HOAs, commercial developments with big chains, and sprawling industrial wasteland.
canton is still waaayy nicer than Akron. I am in canton several days a week. even the "rough" parts. I am not scared there like I am in the "rough" parts of Akron.
Following WWII, some of my relatives moved to North Hill, Akron (at that time predominantly Italian and Irish). Due to various unfavorable changes taking place, they later shifted to farming communities well outside the city limits in the 1960s. The severely damaged sections of the city that are shown here are the result of numerous years of continuous decline. Furthermore, Akron is currently struggling with inadequate leadership, which is a common issue faced by communities experiencing hardships. In my opinion, Akron is a prime candidate for a revival and genuinely merits rejuvenation.
I could see the problem within the first 20 seconds of this. Some people move out, and other's move in. When the factories leave so does the money. People that can follow the money do, those that can't it seems their just stuck.
Hello happy Tuesday... Townhomes/ Single Family homes/ apartments..Look well kept that's a plus,. Abandoned homes sadly are still a plethora.. Stay safe in travels .. Thank you again
Akron will be known for its infamous abandoned mall Rolling Acres for a very long time to come. It is the icon not just for Akron, but for dead and abandoned malls throughout the country.
The North and West sides of Akron are really nice. Lots of old money in some very high end neighborhoods. The downtown is doing pretty good as well. But the South and East sides are pretty rough in areas.
Chrissy sang about her city being gone over 40 years ago. It’s not come back and likely never will. I grew up there and have been gone even longer. The only thing I would get back there for is weddings and funerals. There are still neighborhoods that aren’t as blighted as what we see here. It is a rare place where you can still purchase a livable home for less than 100 grand.
My Dad worked for Quaker Oats. Shut down in 1972. Downtown went to hell & we moved away. There was a lot more to it but as an Elementary kid that is all I remember. The Pretenders sang about Akron going to hell & what it was like when she went back. She was Firestone High graduate.
bittersweet to watch. i went to college in akron, living on the east side (talbot & mckinley). i loved & lost & walked a lot of miles in that city. seeing the house @ 5:12 hit me hard in a place i forgot existed. thank you for your time & efforts ❤
Again, I see nature taking over, like that History show,"Life After People". But I still imagine the lives in these homes. When people mention those nice cars in front of certain homes, remember - it is easier to get a car loan than a home loan. When the businesses go, where do the people go?
My husband was born and reared in Mogadore, South of Akron. Looks the same as when we left 24 yrs ago. Hubs is a machinist. He learned in Barberton. Now, we live in Fla and Ive never been happier! We really miss A & W, 🌭and Parasson's,🍕 and Stricklands!🍦
Thanks for your video. Great filming. If you do another one, could you narrate? I was raised in Akron. It's astonishing to see things in decay....and in such a short time. Compared to Europe where buildings and old homes lasted centuries, America had a rapid rise and fast decline. ....happening all over the country. Where has it all gone? The work that went into construction was detailed and supposed to last. Now it's all in ruin, after just a couple of generations. Your video is a sad trip down memory lane but thank you.
Lee99, I think why these videos are so popular is because there is no narration, or on-screen appearances by the maker, or any unnecessary music. Fortunately, if you read through the comments, you'll see comments from people who were there at one time, and tell of their memories. I discovered just the quiet visuals of these cities is potent enough!
If you drive the near west side of Akron along Merriman Road, Portage Path and the connecting streets, you can see the enormous wealth that was generated when Akron was an industrial powerhouse during during the early to mid 20th century. Some of the most stately homes in America, and old monied families are still there. It is a city of extreme income inequality.
Grew up in cuyahoga falls, currently working in Akron as we speak. It’s sad tbh. Mixture of bad areas, no jobs, low income, and high prices. Going there isn’t the same as it used to be.
I lived in stow my whole life until like 2014 we fell on bad terms and bought a house and moved to akron I didnt mind living there. everything worked the water was good the electricity was nice it "worked" better than anywhere I ever lived. But, it was lights on lights out work. There was no life. Nobody had time for unwork related hobbies. I miss it but am glad I lived through all the woes and came back to my home town. Don't get me wrong its a money machine if that's all you want but I needed my soul back.
I understand the name of your channel, but there are so much more to Akron than the hood and the burnt down buildings in factories that have been closed down.
Born and raised in Akron. Johnston St has always been bad over that way as far as I can remember. I grew up in the early 70s- early 90s and that was always a rundown area. I literally live about 7 minutes from Johnston, but it's like night and day where I'm at. There are little pockets of clean, safe, nicer neighborhoods in East Akron. If you know where they're at. But yes, so many parts of Akron are rundown and a stones throw away from the nicer parts. You were over by the Rosemary's. Lots of shootings and crime over there. And Cole Ave is a pretty bad area as well. It's been rough over that way for decades. Next time you're here, ride over to Arlington St or Copley Rd at night. 😮
wow! I grew up 3 blocks away from that IGA wen it was still Sparkle market. I lived with my grandmother who lived in Firestone Park. It is a shame what has happened when the rubber factories left. I go back and visit family there but couldn't live in the city again..
My father was born in Firestone park. Anyone know the place now. He was born in 1919. I have ties to Akron, Barberton and Cleveland and lived in Cincinnati as a small child for 4 years.
What kind of camera are you using for these videos? I watch these on my 65" and theyre clear Especially the night shots. Nicers then i can get my gopro 8
Akron is on the very last list of cities even hoping to bounce back Cleveland has world class merits and bold forward thinking leadership thats helping it bounce back Akron doesn't
It's a shame what's happened but for urban explorers, you can find a lot of cool stuff. Unfortunately, Akron has started tearing down a lot of the good abandoned places.
Its more like 50%! And I havent used paypal for any of this, havent used that in ages. I was thinking of maybe making a patreon or something. Perhaps giving more pieces of the video that I dont include on here, or doing extra pictures, etc.
The “Hood “ is expanding in almost every section of Akron, low income housing, a lot of now rentals, hud homes. Akron used to be a great city to live in, your kids could go play in one of the numerous parks with no fear. Now, parents don’t let the kids roam and be kids, crime is a big issue, taxes are becoming insane for what you get. When it was known as the rubber city and almost everyone known someone that worked at Goodyear, Firestone, BFG ect…it was a prideful middle class city. Poor Akron leadership ushered all the “fair” jobs to be shipped out of state or the country. This story is common across America, hell look at Detroit… people from all over the US moved the for a job from one of the big 3 auto makers, now it’s hood and rich, no middle America. SAD
You make great videos but you jeed so kind of sound something.the silence doesn't work. If you don't want to talk just fit some royalty free music in .
I was born and raised just south of Akron, when the factories started closing down in the 70's, the decay started. The people who could get, got out.
When you take away all the jobs and the tax paying citizens leave, you are left with the remainders
Hi from france. I think Ohio is a beautiful state where people have suffered a lot. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
This decay has been in process for decades. Corporate greed among a slew of other issues.

Akron lost it's only hope when Marty gave-up his bid for mayor.
man.. i heard even swensons burgers went downhill, too. sad

I saw the problem when he drove past the abandoned factory. 😢

I grew up on Lovers Lane across the bridge towards Brown Street in the late 70's early 80's. There were 4 houses demolished on my block😢
I was in a homeless shelter in Akron, not a good place. Some parts of Akron are not great at all. but I still love Akron.

So very interesting for me watching from the U.K. thanks for sharing 👍🏻
I live in Akron, even the rats and bed bugs are starting to leave , hey!! you just showed my house dude.
Im from Cleveland. I didnt kbow Akron was so runned down honestly.

One reason is that nothing we buy says MADE IN THE USA.

I live in Crakron! It’s a shame.
I see lots of crime there, every night on the news.

As an Akronite... yeah, this is accurate. The city is being overtaken by the university and other than that...yeah
😢 WOW yeah times got rough
Awesome content thanks again big fan of your channel wow pretty dreary
Thanks so much John!
Luckily I grew up in the nice party of Akron
Raised in Wadsworth... moving to Akron was a culture shock!
Thanks for all your videos of streets of US … really superb …
Thanks so much for watching!
Another great vlog a little bit of everything.
Looks a lot like Battle Creek, Michigan in the 70's/80's
What happened to the city to become like that? Someone explain?
My father was born in Firestone park. Anyone know the place now. He was born in 1919. I have ties to Akron, Barberton and Cleveland and lived in Cincinnati as a small child for 4 years.

Akron is bouncing back just like Cleveland. It won't be overnight but it's on a right direction.
Akron is on the very last list of cities even hoping to bounce back Cleveland has world class merits and bold forward thinking leadership thats helping it bounce back Akron doesn't
USA is very strange country
The mayor is in question too. That's why you never hear from him. The previous one you used to see him often. I don't even know his name.
Akron does have a good quality University teaching high tech and medical career jobs. So, are there any decent neighborhoods left?
1:03 Is that a 74' Buick Electra? Nice.
How can it be that bad there!?!?!
What's the enormous institution at the end of the video? A big reason why there's so much poverty. Jobs leave. Poverty sets in.
That was part of Goodyear
It's a shame what's happened but for urban explorers, you can find a lot of cool stuff. Unfortunately, Akron has started tearing down a lot of the good abandoned places.
The goblin king of Akron happened
When the rubber shops left, so did the jobs and the neighborhoods followed.
New cars in front of projects lol.
What is this thing about loitering and hanging out on the street?
Cars are easier to pay for than decent homes!!!!
@@vickisawyer7405 More like living subsidized so they can afford the cars
The skelatol remains of a city that thrived with industry; namely Goodyear Tire.
my dad ran a race for a fundraiser that goodyear was raising
3:42 who here remembers when this was the "lebron james super genius" housing 😭
7:13 I grew up there when I was younger with my mother and little brother..
Thanks!
A lot of them are just really old and not kept up with. Outdated electric ect. So many fires
01:53 cat 🐈 maybe.
Thanks!
Not much but every little bit helps.
Buy a drop of gas ⛽ with it.
Thank you Linda! You are awesome and I appreciate anything at all! That'll get me over to the next city coming up on the uploads ;)

40 seconds in and I already have a very good idea why the place is in the state of decay its in
Been like this ever since lebron left 😂😂, no, just like most places though there are good areas and there are trashy areas.
Sorry to see the Lakers out. 😢

Очень много деревянных домов.
Just to the south, Green is pretty nice.
Personally, I thought it was nice to see people outside socializing.
Very boring city architecturally.
Are all those community complexes Government housing?
I suspect so... any residents caught trashing the property gets evicted...ASAP!
Can you do Ohio wooster? 330 area code
