I'm all but convinced that tons of NYC millionaires and other Republicans register as democrats so they can vote in their primary to make sure the worst (furthest right) gets to the general election because they know full well that a Republican is never gonna win. If the republican can't win, just make the democrat a republican instead. And obviously there's a decent amount of old, shitty, centrist dems in NYC, but I have a hard time believing that you'd end up with a dem this far right solely because of them.

He's never been a very ideologically driven mayor, honestly he's really an old school patronage system kind of politician, probably because he came up through the police so he's tied into all those networks. Hence the trouble he's gotten himself into

There are at once eerie and hilarious parallels between the Turkinsh consulate building and the Burj Khalifa, the tower in Dubai that was built by people more interested in setting a world record for tallest skyscraper than installing plumbing.
I lived in Dubai for a few months, working there, but I never heard about the plumbing issues in the Burj! I never visited it because I found out other things about Dubai while I lived there, and it made me disinclined to approve of the means, the methods, and the ends involved for such extravagance.
