    Thank you so much for this project, Stephan! This project, combined with studying the Hyprland Wiki, has taught me a lot! One idea that I'd personally find useful: A cheatsheet that re-renders after there are changes to the keybindings. Garuda Hyprland has a static cheatsheet, accessible by a button in the Waybar. Great work ! Thanks. If anyone is thinking about using SDDM with any Wayland Desktop Environment or Window manager it is best to change the SDDM session to Wayland. The Arch wiki for SDDM has details on this. It is well worth doing if you want to use Wayland otherwise SDDM will start X11 which can cause some degradation of your lovely Wayland experience.

    Tip for supporting Diff Comparisons inside the Thunar file browser. #1 - Install Meld, #2 - Open Thunar and go to the Edit Menu and select "Configure custom actions..." #3 - Click the + button to add a new custom action. #4 - Type in the Basic Tab Details (Name: Compare, Description: Compares selected files or folders in Meld, Command: meld %F, Optional set the icon, search on meld and select the meld icon) #5 - Type in the Appearance Conditions Tab (File Pattern: *, Range (min-max): *, Check the two check boxes, first checkbox next to Directories, second checkbox next to Text files). #6 - Click OK, close custom actions, quit Thunar and relaunch Thunar. Enjoy! Select files or select folders and then right-click and select Compare on the Thunar context menu that appears.

      Thanks for your feature ideas. The waybar config is already on my backlog. Additionally to the already available themeswitcher, I’ll think about hiding modules and reorder on the fly. @@mylinuxforwork For the config for Waybar: yes, a couple of modules as a set and the possibility of activating/deactivating via a menu. For example, I always hide the IP address on my desktop, I'm not interested in that. But I would always show weather information. And I always extend these shortcuts for program launches by a few or adapt them, as brave is my main browser. However, these are individual configurations that you make once during the initial installation. But simply showing or hiding modules would be cool.

    This keeps getting better and better. I've always come back to this set of dotfiles because nothing else compares to them. Have you ever considered making your own Arch "remix" distro with all this preinstalled? I think the masses would love it.... Maybe even a Hyprland edition and a QTile edition for those that like either or. I'm about to install v2.6 from scratch since I've been "dotfiles" hopping to see what works for me, and only these do so far. A question though (not necessarily only for Stephan): if I have a huge repo of wallpapers in a folder, and I have two monitors, is there a way to have it automatically cycle through them? i.e. I set one wallpaper per display and it randomly chooses another at a set interval. I know macOS and Windows can do this, but what about Hyprland/Linux in general? Also I've used Void Linux in the past... I might try and alter the install script a bit to work with Void, though IDK about the stuff being pulled from the AUR... I might have to read up on that.
    ANYWAY Stephan, let me know what you think of my "remix" distro idea. Thanks as always for awesome stuff like this!

    • @mylinuxforwork
      @mylinuxforwork  7 місяців тому +2

      Hi. Thanks so much for your feedback. Having distro incl. The dotfiles and Hyprland and Qtile preconfigured is indeed interesting. To do this I think the setup script needs to get a bit more features. To your wallpaper scenario. This is of course possible with a script running in a background trigger my wallpaper script after a defined amount of time. For one of the next version I will look into multi monitor support. Your idea is noted

    Awesome theme, very well put together. A couple things, having the system tray module enabled in the waybar themes by default would be great. Enabling manually seems to break some of the styling, plus having to go and enable it for each theme for each update is going to be tedious, haha. And secondly, it seems like the install script didn't install all of the yay dependencies properly. The packages were downloaded, they compiled, but they did not install. I had to manually go and reinstall each of them. I am using the latest commit installed as of an hour or two of this post. A post further down mentioned the wallpaper not working, mine was the same thing out of the gate, because swww didn't install. Once I manually installed it, the wallpaper worked fine.

    • @mylinuxforwork
      @mylinuxforwork  6 місяців тому

      Thank you so much for your feedback. I will add your ideas for improvements as issues on GitLab. The systray will need some special css styling to fit into the layout. Can you tell me which dependencies haven't been installed? Any idea, why?

    • @Nderlyn
      @Nderlyn 6 місяців тому

      I super appreciate you taking my feedback into consideration, the systray is really the main feature I feel this theme is lacking. As I have to keep apps such as Webcord(a custom build of discord) open on its own workspace as if I close it, and relaunch it, it doesn't reopen and will start a new instance instead. So other applications that follow that behavior are a bit of an issue for me. It seemed like almost anything that was downloaded through the AUR did not install with your installation script. And after reading other comments mentioning wallpaper issues and the like, I am going to assume it has something to do with how your install script interacts with Yay. It did seem to run through its tasks pretty quickly, so perhaps adding a wait condition could help. There is a chance the script is just executing too fast. I have really not seen a situation where a Yay package will compile and then just not install, you ask for authentication at the start so I can't see that being an issue either. That is really all the insight i can offer as I am also terrible at bash scripting, so you are probably much more knowledgeable in that regard than I am. Regardless, thank you for your efforts, Have a wonderful holiday. @@mylinuxforwork

    CONGRATULATIONS Thanks for this! I loved the 'rsync double checked' haha I did something a bit different I copied my init.vim into your source so I could keep my setup. I always had to restore it otherwise. I use 'leafvim' with neovim. I have a heavily modified .bashrc as well. I am going to add local file and get your .bashrc to source it for all my aliases and defined functions
    I REALLY like how you redid they keybindings file. Adding commented sections.
    Re: Virtual machines. In the environments.conf file I noticed that your removed the commented out source command for when running in a VM. Maybe add that back ?

    So, bug report: @My Linux For Work I know you said you'd look into multi-monitor support, but I tested it out anyway, and no matter what I do I cannot get it working with more than one display on v2.6. On v2.5 and before I could set the monitor coordinates and put them into monitors.conf and I'd be good to go... I might revert to v2.5 until 2.6+ supports what I'd like to do. Thanks again though for an awesome emerging desktop experience!
    EDIT: I ended up reverting to v2.5 for now and I can indeed take advantage of more than one display. I'll be downsizing from 4 displays to just 2 tomorrow, but until then I'll use all 4 of them.

    Where are you hiding the clock 12h format?

    • @mylinuxforwork
      @mylinuxforwork  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi. You can change it here. Line 203 gitlab.com/stephan-raabe/dotfiles/-/blob/main/waybar/modules.json?ref_type=heads But you highlighted a very goid point. Will add clock format to the settings.

    • @chrism7397
      @chrism7397 7 місяців тому

      Edit again: I just needed to add the : before %I in this "format": "{%I:%M %p}"
      so now the module looks like below and works correctly...syntax smh
      // Clock
      "clock": {
      "format": "{:%I:%M %p}",
      //"timezone": "America/New_York",
      "tooltip-format": "{:%Y %B}
      {calendar}",
      "format-alt": "{:%Y-%m-%d}"
      },
      Original:
      Thanks. That's what I thought but I can't find what is telling it to format it to 24h currently. If if I just add the code to format what I want it to display the bar doesn't display at all. So I figured I just need to find and change whatever is displaying the the 24h format already.
      Or maybe I'm just over complicating and missing something.

    Stepahn, great work again. But I hit a snag when I use your scripts. After install I couldn't configure network, I could open pictures by using apps other than browsers to and I couldn't mount a usb drive to the thunar FM. Please I need help ASAP. Thanks!

      Hi. Network should run out of the box. Wireless network can be started with command nmtui . For Thunar automount please install gvfs.
      And try this:
      Edit->preferences
      Check "Enable Volume Management"
      Hit "Configure"
      Check "Mount removable drives when hot-plugged"
      Inserted the drive.
      Hope this helps.

    Is it me or the mouse pointer is upside down? 🤔

      😀 This happens after the installation in a VM. But can be fixed my selection the environment kvm.conf in the settings script, shutdown the VM (not reboot) and start again. But the mouse is lagging in a VM on Hyprland, but for testing it’s acceptable.
