I bought every NBA 2K game from 12-18. 16 was the last 2K game I enjoyed. 17 looks great in retrospect given where the series has gone since, but I remember finding it frustrating at the time. 18 was so bad I played it for a week and then went back to 17 until they shut the servers off, literally threw the 2K18 disk away while moving to a new apartment, bought NBA Live 19 in protest, and then only bought 2K20, like 9 months after launch when it was on sale on the PSN store for $20. And given that 2K21 looks like 2K20.5, and I'm skipping this console generation, I'll probably never buy a 2K game again.
Agreed, and I don't think it ever will be at a truly great level again. Graphics are incredible, but the whole video game industry has shifted to a money-at-all-costs perspective that puts the gamer last with every decision the companies make.

I’d argue that 2K hasn’t cleaned up its act after 18. Hell, I’d say they’ve gotten worse. The trailer for 20 was focused on gambling games and 21 started the rush for game companies to make their base games $70.
Back then it used to piss me off being new because nobody would play unless I start out as an 85. Smh and I’m super unselfish the ball hogs wouldn’t give me a chance. Back in 2k15-16 nobody cared you could play with anybody the only ones that would avoid noobs were all star 4s lol

I have yet to see anyone directly ask visual concepts why they did this, but I think we all know the answer
As a mainly a myleague player, the gameplay had some quirks, but it's very playable with sliders adjustments. There have been much much much worse basketball games and sports games. Madden 19 had some of the worst gameplay of any sports game of all time.
only good thing about this game is the all time teams and the music. every other aspect is trash. you also left out the park lag, unskippable cutscenes and ads.

I kind of agree with the timeline. But Madden 19 ended up being in my opinion the worst Madden ever. It was the first time I got a Madden game and opened the main menu and said “wait where’s the rest of the game?”
I completely agree 2k is one of the best games and they listen to there fans for example they listened to agent 00s words on 2k it’s self us 2k fans have an amazing game yet most are still complaining and I play a little madden and to be honest I can understand your frustration

For me it’s 2k12 at least from a gameplay standpoint, it was such a huge letdown for me especially after coming after 2k11 which IMO is the best 2k of all time. The graphics, presentation, and game modes such as the Legends showcase were nice but it felt like a chore just playing them. Never spent $1 on vc or dumb shit like a haircut. Could care less about the corny park. Tried it couple times but the lag and 2ks horribly bad servers make it unplayable to me. I honesty don't see how people do it. 🤷
This was my first year playing online, couldn't believe the amount of micro-transactions they implemented. The gameplay was just terrible and the cutscenes made the game unplayable
Love these videos. Hate that game. Detest microtransactions. It's sad that the actual sport within the game has become the lure of buying/buffing your ingame avatar. I buy a basketball game to play basketball - a hockey game to play hockey, and a football game to play football. Now, more emphasis is placed on gimmicks and bright shiny objects over core gameplay and depth. The only way this will ever change is if an indie developer has the balls and determination to put out an unbranded sports game with a lot of depth, but lacking in licenses - THEN, sticking it out until enough hardcore sports gamers make the jump and support it. Pipe dream at best.
You're so right that the game is disconnected from the sport now. For 2k23 Visual Concepts made NBA League Pass (normally $200) part of their 'Championship' pre-order package for $150 ... and the majority of players I saw commenting online called it a trash bonus because they wouldn't actually use it. This is the most insane bonus for any game I've ever seen; it shouldn't even be possible for an established game with no competition. And it was met with a collective, 'eh'. The people who play this game - particularly the ones who will pay $150 for a pre-order copy with bonus VC, etc. - truly don't even watch actual basketball games. Or care to.
NBA 2K18 is the one that started the total downfall for the legendary NBA 2K Series. 2K18, 2K21, and 2K24 are the top 3 WORST NBA 2K GAMES OF ALL TIME.
The downfall of NBA 2k also came at a really bad time, I think a lot of people left it to play fortnite which was absolutely blowing up at the time. I for one absolutely became fed up with this franchise after 2k18 and didn’t buy another 2k game until 2k21 came out.

Bought 2k21 a few days ago on the Black Friday digital Xbox sale... haven't bought one since 2k12. The depth of MyLeague is absolutely bonkers, very impressed and happy with my purchase so far. Not sure if I'll give the MyCareer a chance though
well when you compare it to 2k12 i mean damn
You a sick dude for 1:57 my boy 🤣🤣🤣
2k18 was the start of the downfall of nba 2k. What a terrible my career, it had the worst career mode ever!
Nah it started with 2k17 the game that made our players into role players, instead of superstars. 2k17 had such a cringe story and was the year most people gave up on mycareer 🤦
@@colewrld901 they just need to drop this b-movie level storytelling they’ve had for years now. Look at fifa with the journey trilogy when you play as Alex hunter, it was actually really well done, but 2k refuse to put any effort whatsoever into their games
@@cheeto6057 nah they need to drop it period and let us be ourselves. Even with that FIFA trilogy, we were playing as an already created character. I want to be myself in a game, not someone 2k or EA made for me. They need to get rid of the storylines and go back to gameplay and depth in sports video games already.
@@colewrld901 I can definitely agree with that, I was just pointing out how well ea did it with fifa compared to how awful 2k handled it, which says a lot of EA is making your shit look like garbage
@@cheeto6057 yeah I agree
2K17 has always been one of my favorites. By far the most hours I’ve logged on any 2K game
Preach. I was legit upset the day the servers went down. I was in like my 4th season of mycareer
Bro I remember people hating this game and calling it one of the worst 2ks. What changed?
Still more discuss than 2k11
thank you bro, now all of sudden 2k17 was trash? i remember this being one of the best 2k’s
Walking the to the otherside of the park and your game freezes 😐
Wasn’t the best gen for sports games and next gen isn’t off to a great start either.
Agreed, and I don't think it ever will be at a truly great level again. Graphics are incredible, but the whole video game industry has shifted to a money-at-all-costs perspective that puts the gamer last with every decision the companies make.
@@Nelson_Swamp gameplay is all that matters, all that other at least to me is irrelevant. People are always gonna complain about something, the only thing 2k can do is fix they're own mistakes and let's not forget Take2 are the ones pulling the strings 2k just makes the game.
when my little brother played my career in nba 2k18 we had to grind for months to just get to 80 ovr. it was stressful.
I’d argue that 2K hasn’t cleaned up its act after 18. Hell, I’d say they’ve gotten worse. The trailer for 20 was focused on gambling games and 21 started the rush for game companies to make their base games $70.
Facts 2K16 was last good 2k game
Back then it used to piss me off being new because nobody would play unless I start out as an 85. Smh and I’m super unselfish the ball hogs wouldn’t give me a chance. Back in 2k15-16 nobody cared you could play with anybody the only ones that would avoid noobs were all star 4s lol
2k17 was the true fall of 2k. 2k11-2k16 was so good until 2k17 happened
Facts. 2k17 nerfed our players so bad
Ehhhh
You have 13 which is pretty overrated and 15 which was a letdown compared to 14 overall
@@thetruth619ful woah now. 15 was a top 2 2k. That was the be any player u want era 😭 I miss it so much
@@colewrld901 bro that’s literally what 2k21 my player is everyone is complaining about everyone player is op and dunk animations happened so much. Trust me you don’t want that. You want limitations on some builds

Another seldom-mentioned thing 2K18 did was how it removed the rookie difficulty in my career, making the game a lot harder for people who aren't great at it but just want to create the player and be in the NBA. I have yet to see anyone directly ask visual concepts why they did this, but I think we all know the answer
This is a very fair take on NBA 2k. I wish, as a nascar fan, we had a game of equal quality. I like the heat series but that is a budget mess.
we gonna have a great game next year
As a mainly a myleague player, the gameplay had some quirks, but it's very playable with sliders adjustments. There have been much much much worse basketball games and sports games. Madden 19 had some of the worst gameplay of any sports game of all time.
1:57 Dead 😂
Kyrie out here destroying another franchise
only good thing about this game is the all time teams and the music. every other aspect is trash. you also left out the park lag, unskippable cutscenes and ads.
when the shooting mechanics are too confusing for you because you've only actually played 2K8 with simple "press X to shoot" controls but you're a myleague nerd so you couldn't care less about gameplay
“The most important element to a sports game is gameplay”
Seems like someone who doesn’t care about gameplay.
@@mr.sideous2340 no shit
Let's be real though. The worst NBA 2K is still better than the best Madden.
💯
No
I kind of agree with the timeline. But Madden 19 ended up being in my opinion the worst Madden ever. It was the first time I got a Madden game and opened the main menu and said “wait where’s the rest of the game?”
The custom T's was fire tho.
The only good thing about the game
The Madden 13 of NBA 2K.
I play madden, and really, 2k is way better. I feel like 2k fans don’t get how good they actually have it.
Most spoiled fan base ever
I completely agree 2k is one of the best games and they listen to there fans for example they listened to agent 00s words on 2k it’s self us 2k fans have an amazing game yet most are still complaining and I play a little madden and to be honest I can understand your frustration
Facts, 2k games are so good and so many levels above madden and other sports games I don’t understand how people complain
I remember me and my mates gave 18 a month or two and we where all fed up and went back to 17 but the funny thing is we did the exact same thing with 17 because it was really bad and was the exact game as 16 so we went back to 16 where the packs where more packed then 17
2k is gonna make our video game, definitely.
I thought you shut down 😂
@@KeshawnPro2016 nope, Dwanye Johnson Bought It
Narwhal Live V2 oh yeah, i forgot about that
this man saying “2k17 wasn’t that good of a game” triggered me. the launch was sus sure but after?😭
For me it’s 2k12 at least from a gameplay standpoint, it was such a huge letdown for me especially after coming after 2k11 which IMO is the best 2k of all time. The graphics, presentation, and game modes such as the Legends showcase were nice but it felt like a chore just playing them. Dealing with issues like this
Speed was a joke ua-cam.com/video/jZn17qI8g6o/v-deo.html
Terrible defense by your CPU teammates while playing MyCareer
ua-cam.com/video/Ns13t03BZZg/v-deo.html
There were several other issues as well but these we’re 2 issues that made the game unplayable at times and one of these problems still exist today. And some of these problems still exists today in 2k
2K12 where the cpu pump faked for 16 seconds before shooting
Facts. 11 was the last time i didn't hate playing a 2k game.
@@yettiluch1 the fact that 2K14 looks way better than 2K22 tells you everything you need know about this shit franchise.
2k13 weren't too bad either but 2k11 definitely holds the crown
This isn’t just the worst 2k games it’s one of the worst games of all time
2k18 may not be a great game but it’ll always hold a special place in my heart because it was my first nba game
Never spent $1 on vc or dumb shit like a haircut. Could care less about the corny park. Tried it couple times but the lag and 2ks horribly bad servers make it unplayable to me. I honesty don't see how people do it. 🤷
I ain’t gone lie I had fun on 18 🤷🏽♂️
2k Saying Lebron James is extremely Loyal is a bit of a stretch @ 8:58 😂🤣
NBA 2K13 was my favorite 2k by far in terms of how much fun I had when I would play it.
Love NBA 2k13's gameplay. Definitely my favorite in the series.
Still got it
This was my first year playing online, couldn't believe the amount of micro-transactions they implemented.
The gameplay was just terrible and the cutscenes made the game unplayable
You could skip them if you want
@@lmSean you literally couldn't. That was what the changed in 2K19, because you couldn't skip cutscene
@@lmSean you could not skip the 2k18 cut scenes at all.
Thank god 2K is willing to listen to the fans and deliver a better game the next year but still I hate micro transactions
I'm an offline player, and i had fun with MyLeague in 2k18.
People who say that the game sucked mainly played MyCareer, Park and MyTeam.
THANK YOU
Love these videos.
Or care to.
I get this video in my recommended and click on it. I'm watching it and at 1:35 I see my tweet from a few months ago. I was not expecting that 😂
Whats up guys WLR droppin soon

2k18 was the best game for me. It was the first of the series i ever played. At the time i got it i wasn't big into basketball yet.
The blow by was something serious 😂😂.
The downfall of NBA 2k also came at a really bad time, I think a lot of people left it to play fortnite which was absolutely blowing up at the time. I for one absolutely became fed up with this franchise after 2k18 and didn’t buy another 2k game until 2k21 came out.
