I know Riho because I go to Kirov Academy in Washington D.C. She is super sweet and is the start of our company! Don't put hat on her... She has worked very hard!
Riho is the best dancer at Kirov, she is so strong in her technique and her artistry they are close to perfect! I was so lucky to be in the same class as her in the summer intensive a couple of weeks ago she is so sweet and down to earth and she is so good:) I can only hope to be as good as she is one day!
@missdancergurl123 A lot of young pointe students use softer shoes to learn to articulate their feet when dancing on pointe. And because this variation has lots of rolling through the shoe :)
But she's being trained at the Kirov Ballet Academy in Washington, DC, USA. If she wins, it won't be as a Japanese (unless she moves to Japan and finishes her training there), it will be as an American. Also, I don't know (do you?), she could be born in the US, which would make her Japanese American.
irishballerina1 I was at the summer intensive in 2013 too! Were you at Trinity? I am 12 so I stayed in the dorms, but Riho was super nice to my friends and I. We basically admired her. I'm going back next year!
Girls can start pointe whenever theyre ready, usually between ages 7 and 15 at top academies. I started pointe when I was 8, because I was ready then. No injuries so far. Oh, and in order to produce top dancers, top academies are supposed to push hard. Duh.
She doesn't have the strength nor control to properly pull off these feats on pointe. 12 is too young to be doing pointe work of this level, not least because she's still growing and the bones, ligaments, connective tissue is still delicate, the muscles haven't been properly strengthened. Yes, she's talented, but you can destroy talent by pushing it too fast, too soon and too aggressively. This is just wrong, not so long ago no school would allow a 12 year old to do this.
This is the Kirov Academy of Ballet. They know what they're doing. This girl is clearly ready for this choreography
