Black history month serves as a reminder of how black people had been treated unfairly for a majority of US history, and how in a short time, we've made great strides as a people during, before, and after the fight for civil rights.

I love the way Amazon posts models of black people to celebrate Black History month. It is very annoying to look at. If it was pictures of prominent people that make up Black History Month, then it would not be annoying. Only Amazon can turn something like this into a marketing ploy.

Black History Month should be known as Human History Month. There are other ethnic groups of humans out there besides the blacks. Human History Month should be about humans of ALL ethnic groups and not just one specific ethnic group. Same goes for Hispanic History Month. Black History Month and Hispanic History Month should be mixed in with Human History Month, formerly known as Black History Month.

Curious what taking the Canadian oath of citizenship has to do with black history month, but the judge residing for mine was sure to let everyone know and then to remind us of the plight of indigenous Canadians and try to guilt all the attendees as best she could into finding out more about both. I didn’t think that this would need to be said, as I hoped most folks would have enough common sense to realise for themselves. My wife and I shared the cooking, I did not force my wife to cook because I am some chauvinistic beast. We shared it because we share things. Including the food. The history of this month goes back to the early nineteen hundreds when the Black and Caribbean American Carter G Woodson took note of how black American children do not learn black American history because they are inundated with white supremacist nonsense about white people being the only group of individuals here in the United States of America that contributed to the founding and building up this nation. He had a clear understanding that there was a detrimental way of thinking and recognized that Black American children needed to see themselves as prominent figures in this country....because Black American have ALWAYS been a part of America. The reason we still need this month today is because within the white American Community there has always been an effort to deny black American people's history because denial of black Americans suffering in this country affords white people a feeling of comfort. Every advancement Black Americans have made come with trial and tribulation attributed to white supremacy. When we celebrate ourselves many white people feel uncomfortable because they're forced to reconcile with the truth of this nation. Black History Month should be known as Human History Month. There are other ethnic groups of humans out there besides the blacks. Human History Month should be about humans of ALL ethnic groups and not just one specific ethnic group. Same goes for Hispanic History Month. Black History Month and Hispanic History Month should be mixed in with Human History Month, formerly known as Black History Month.

I dont recall whites being treated terribly just because of their skin. In fact, it was the other way around.
Ok and that was almost over 100 years ago blacks should get over it. Most of the tine if anyone were to say anything about a white month it would be considered racist and hurtful and on top of that there's black month, black TV, black radio, and more the first white anything would be banned and hurtful and racist but black everything is fine. I'm not a racist, but why this much attention on black people?! I know about their history and it's very sad and makes me mad when I'm thinking about what they've been through. But why is the attention seeking??? Same with the gay parades, being a midged (they have a whole tv show???). Just live your life, be great and so on, but stop throwing your lifestyle in our face. I almost forgot how the rest of the world looked like...
You want to really know why there is so much attention because everything you use for the most part of your life to make it easier was created or invented by African Americans including your favorite drink jack daniels, the stop light, windshield wipers,, the pace maker, blood drive, the refrigerator and so many other things you take for granted. Our history deserves to be learned and told just like your civil war and the fact that you killed a whole bunch of Native Americans to take this land. Knowledge is power and just because you only want to tell your cultures story doesn’t make it right. We deserve to know our stuff and it be taught like yours is.

black history month was created because black people's history was largely ignored and white washed. (it still is) the point of it is to educate fellow black people on their heritage and history so they won't forget it.

Oh my God this is really such disingenuous take on why this month exist. The history of this month goes back to the early nineteen hundreds when the Black and Caribbean American Carter G Woodson took note of how black American children do not learn black American history because they are inundated with white supremacist nonsense about white people being the only group of individuals here in the United States of America that contributed to the founding and building up this nation. He had a clear understanding that there was a detrimental way of thinking and recognized that Black American children needed to see themselves as prominent figures in this country....because Black American have ALWAYS been a part of America.
The reason we still need this month today is because within the white American Community there has always been an effort to deny black American people's history because denial of black Americans suffering in this country affords white people a feeling of comfort. Every advancement Black Americans have made come with trial and tribulation attributed to white supremacy. When we celebrate ourselves many white people feel uncomfortable because they're forced to reconcile with the truth of this nation. Instead of just seeing America's history for what it is and moving forward they cower with guilt and react in irrational way and put up disingenuous and ignorant arguments like the one you made which ignores the course of American history in favor of some BS colorblind nonsense that you probably don't even believe in in your own everyday life just to ease your own discomfort with Black American people having their own month-long celebration and acknowledging their contributions to this Society. I didn’t realize that history was racist. But doesn’t the study of black history as opposed to history imply a racist bias? What about the many prominent black people who think that black history can not be separated from history without doing serious damage to blacks in general? Then there is the facts about the white contribution to all through the arts, technology, philosophy and science. Were all these things systemically racist? And the Constitution, and the end to universal slavery, produced by white men, are we to rewrite history to exclude these?
Al, if black history was taught the same as White American history we wouldn’t have to dedicate a month. Instead children are taught: slavery was bad but it was a long time ago, lets not tell the children the horrible atrocities slaves had to endure such as rape, whippings, hangings. Maybe if we as Americans all acknowledge the tragedy that came from BLACK HISTORY, we can move forward to an INCLUSIVE AMERICAN HISTORY.
