- This is a video of me removing a salivary gland stone, or a sialolith, from my submandibular salivary gland (right under your tongue). It's not like I decided to do this in the beginning, it just kind of happened that way. I went to an Urgent Care clinic in the morning since the pain was so bad and before I could get into and EENT doctor in the afternoon the pressure was causing things to happen on their own without much help. As I watched it unfold I thought, "might as well get some cool video and just finish what's going to happen anyways."

In the olden days, a guy would read a boring book to induce sleep when he awakes in the middle of the night; with the advent of the interwebs, I can watch a dude remove a couple of calcified blue cheese crumbles from his mouth hole with the assistance of a dirty xacto knife, thus ensuring I'll never get back to sleep. Outstanding.

It was a stone created by a salivary gland. If they’re small enough you can suck on lemon drops to keep your mouth moist enough for it to work its way out on its own. Sometimes it requires a doctor to cut it out. You can also keep massaging your glands from the outside and keep warm heat on it to help with the pain.

I felt a pins and needle feeling in my neck when I was driving home today and reach up to feel my face and had a huge lump on my neck.
I thought I was having an allergic reaction or maybe a stroke. I went strait to the clinic. Turns out I had a blocked gland. I was relieved to hear I was not dying. One I got home and sucked on a lemon juice for about an hour I took to the Internet. After seeing some pictures I went and looked in the mirror. After poking around a bit I discovered a stone like this under my tongue. I had been look back by my molars. Thinking the little tube would be close to where the pressure is. After watching this video I think I will try my hand at getting the little bastard out. The pressure is crazy painful and they said I need to wait a week before they would treat it with some dye and pulling it out.

For everyone asking what causes these stones ..it's not really known. Some doctors think it's caused by high amounts of minerals in saliva. definitely not from bad oral hygiene, I see the dentist every 6 months and have perfect teeth and still got a stone ! But I had mine Profesionally removed by a surgeon.

I had to do this about 6 years ago, mine was smaller and painless. I’m a tattooer, so I used a tattoo needle to get it out. It looked like a rice crispy. I still have a pin sized hole where it was.

I have suffered with submandibular salivary stones since 2006. I finally had my gland removed in 2014 but the Dr did not remove the stones that are sitting in the duct. So now I have a cluster of stones that stay infected but can not move because there is no saliva to push them out. The pain has decreased because the saliva can not back up and cause the excruciating pain, but it does still become very painful and it makes my breath rank. I thought about doing the same as this guy and just cut it out myself. But my luck is I would cut a major facial nerve. I hope you are stone free forever. Lemon water is supposed to break down stones in every organ you might have them in.
Would probably cost like $2000-4000 If a doctor had to do it

like seriously, for me bus to the hospital is £1.80 return and ibuprofen are 60p a pack from most supermarkets- if I wasn't a student and they gave me any prescribed medication that might add like a MAXIMUM of £8 but all prescriptions are free for students

For anyone else doing this, you can buy over the counter numbing gel for use in the mouth. Because the flesh there is so thin the numbing gel would do a great job of making this almost painless.

Sometimes my saliva builds up in the walls of my cheeks or mouth, and if I push my tongue against the built up bubbles it just pops with saliva. It’s not gross and it’s super small, but it’s happened a total of like, 4 times in the last 4 uears
Wow, I could feel your pain, and I was rooting for you every step of the way. You were very brave to cut it out yourself. I had a PEG TUBE fitted about a week ago ( 2 extremely long stays in hospital this year) where they finally diagnosed me with a small intestine incurable problem, and took me to theatre to have my long- term PEG inserted. Actually as I'm writing this I am being "fed" through my pump lol. I am fed through my PEG for 16 hours per day! Usually 6pm - 10am the next morning. It's a huge change of life for me, as I have to do everything myself ( although I was trained how to do everything in hospital by the Doctors, and nutritional nurses and dieticians etc). A part of my routine is to clean my stoma and tubing and fixators twice a day, which makes me feel very faint and I feel like I'm going to flake out lol. But I'm getting more confident and not so squeamish day by day. Anyway I just wanted to say that you were very brave because I don't think that I could have done it! I couldn't believe the size of those stones that came out! You must have been in so much pain with them in your salivary gland! And what about that hole that was they came out of! It was so big. I hope that you are feeling much better now and that you won't be bothered by salivary stones again. Kudos to you! Thank you for sharing your video here on UA-cam. Sending best wishes from the UK.

I actually had a doctor's appointment with an ENT to remove it at 2 pm that day, but it started coming out on it's own at noon. Regarding your PEG, I actually supply the enteral nutrition for people with your condition as a part of my day job. My night job is performing black market tonsilectomies...just kidding.
