The Best School Garden - Galileo
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 лис 2018
- The Galileo Garden is an amazing school garden in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Run down and useless tennis courts were transformed into a 26,000 sq. ft. garden with a 42' dome greenhouse, 105 raised beds, and dozens of fruiting plants and trees. In this video Gardener Scott shares some of his many memories from the years of building the garden and sharing the experience with students, volunteers, and community members.
This video acknowledges Gardener Scott's retirement as the
Galileo Master Gardener and his transition to a focus on his home garden and travel to encounter new experiences.
For additional perspective, see the video made to acknowledge Galileo winning the 2016 Environmental Stewardship Award. • 2016 SCCA Environmenta... - Навчання та стиль
Really beautiful story, thank you for sharing. I teared up hearing about those boys!
Thanks, Timothy. It really is a special place.
Me too!!!
Wow, praise God! What an amazing story and an amazing garden that impacted so many lives for good! No doubt those kids will think of you and the garden over the years!
This man is an angel on Earth. Bless him. I've been watching a few of his videos the last week I had no idea about this project but I'm here in TEARS at the pure passion and love that I can feel pouring out of him when telling this story 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
You're a master story teller because you truly have stories to tell. Stories that come from your work, heart, love and dedication to the garden. Thank you.
I wish that I had been one of those students. Bless you sir.
Thank you for such a nice comment.
i am and nobody really pays attention to it
My love of gardening came from my high school teacher Mrs. Kennington. Have many memories of the projects we were involved in. Never doubt Gardner Scott if you ever had an impact on any of the students that entered Galileo. Nice video!
What a Blessing you are Gardener Scott 💯💯. I teared up several times during this video. You have Such a Humble Spirit and I AM CERTAIN that you reached and Blessed So many people and their lives. God Bless you Gardener Scott. Everyone stay safe and God Bless you and your family from middle GA 🙏 Kendra
You are a wonderful man and just like the food that grows from the garden your love for nature has seeded each of those children to spend more time with nature and helping others and to be a little more gentle as they walk in life
This is essential, all schools should have this as a primary class . So many life lessons to be learned from having this class .
Watched this video this morning while I was getting ready for work. (I’ve recently discovered your channel and I’m binge-watching all your older videos.) I can confirm that putting on mascara is very difficult when you’re crying. What an uplifting way to start the day. Thank you for sharing this story.
Thanks so much.
Gardening brings people together, fosters love for the nature and humanity. Great project.
I subscribed for the gardening, I’m staying for the heart.
The world needs more people like you Scott. Well done!!!
I appreciate what you did and the values you're planting in the students I am really happy that you shared with us your valuable memories of your life I hope someone else would come to continue what you have started, thank you! my best wishes
Thank you so much for those kind words.
I was moved to tears! Such a nice story and great consolidation! Great community! Great teacher!
As much as I love gardening, I never thought I would cry 😢over a garden video, yet here I am doing just that. I love your heart and I’m sure you made a long, positive impression on many people there. God Bless❤
This for my school project.
Thank you for doing this. I get choked up too. What a beautiful video. I love to teach kids too. I love to see their lights come on and watch the light spread to others. I retired also, but the local health food store has asked me if I'd be willing to come and teach there. I don't think I know how to say 'No.' Teaching is just too much fun. I love your spirit and passion for gardening. May God bless you for your love for people!
Thanks, Elbert. It's always nice to know others are out there to inspire youth.
A school that the town should be very proud of
Better than a great football year
That is a beautiful story. Actually several all brought into one. You have some wonderful memories.
im really sad he is retiring we watch him all the time in school when we make school gardens.
Thank you so much for sharing these touching stories. ❤
This amazing garden is the perfect example for starting school gardens.
This is inspirational, still 4 years later. Amazing stories from an amazing garden! I can't wait to start my school or community garden.
Wow... what a special place and what a touching story! I was in tears a number of times. Whoever took over those gardens had huge shoes to fill! You've touched the lives of many children who may have never been introduced to gardening, otherwise. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge!
I know for sure that if I had this opportunity in the school I attended that I would have been a botanist. Our school was just one where the teachers and students just went through the motions.
Great project!
Awesome video Gardener Scott! I am watching in April of 2022. Our own government is announcing [If not orchestrating] food shortages. I live in the south eastern part of Washington state. We have a long, enjoyed growing season but not many of my neighbors grow food. This video gave me some great ideas. If the food situation is as serious as they say I pray to God for the strength to step up and help my neighborhood deal with the crisis.
Such an inspiring story, Thanks Scott for bringing positive dreams to everybody
Wow Gardener Scott
What a video, so many touching stories.
I never would have thought a gardening show, or that you Gardener Scott, would ever bring me to tears... twice?!
What an amazing project to have been involved in... you must miss it 🤗🤗🤗
Thanks. I do miss it and the opportunity to be with the students.
What a great story! Thank you for sharing it with us. (My eyes may have leaked a little bit too.)
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a wonderful and emotionally uplifting video. I had no idea a garden like this existed in our city! I hope other districts try this as well. It obviously is so very good for the kids in a variety of ways. I am a fan Scott. Thank you!
A very humbling story about the boys. Great work
Wonderful!
Just amazing, discovered your channel a week ago and I've seen most if not all the videos in your channel. Just sad you or someone like you is not a next door neighbor.
Maybe you can become that neighbor with your amazing garden.
This is wonderful @Gardener Scott! On a smaller scale we created a school garden at our parish school in Dublin CA back in1999. I don't live near there any longer so I'm not sure if it is still active. I sure hope so as that was a fulfilling project for our Super Dads group. Peace be with you my friend.
This was beautiful and inspiring.
I love this video!
I’ve seen GS videos from this garden, always unaware of it’s purpose, history, and the love.
Glad this was in my recommend.
Thank you for sharing your Galileo Garden Testimony. Such an inspiring story ❤
Thank you for a ll your knowledgeable help 🙏❤😊
what an amazing project and opportunity for kids. I wish there was something like this here
What a great inspirational story. Thanks so much for sharing stories, knowledge and ideas.
Wow, after watching a ton of your videos and hearing you mention the Galileo garden, I finally stumbled across this video. It was really something to hear so many stories behind the garden I heard so much about. You touched many lives!
Yes, my tear ducts are working too. Thank you for sharing your wonderful story and all the info in your many other videos.

Touching video You Sir have clearly made a difference and earned a long retirement. Enjoy. The school should enshrine that old hat.
Thank you very much. I've actually thought about getting the hat bronzed. :)
bro i go to that school and it's terrible not the garden
very touching, I'm crying with you
Thank you, Jirina.
I have followed you for some time. I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to see/hear this story and view the garden that you always talk about. Beautiful and very emotional stories.
Thank you for your investments into students futures.
Thank you.
Thanks! This video is heart warming & idea planting!
Thank you, Marci!
Very grateful to see how people like you care for kids. I wish we had a longer season here to do something like this!
Thanks, Sonia. Even areas with short seasons can have fun garden projects for kids. Our garden club at Galileo continues to start seeds and grow plants inside even during the cold of winter with snow on the ground. When the ground finally thaws in spring they're ready to put plants in the garden. They don't always get to see the plants grow through the summer, but have the opportunity to learn about them. Radishes, lettuce, and spinach are great choices for kids to start outside, even when it's cold, and they can be harvesting in a month or two before school is out for summer.
These stories are so beautiful!
It has become my dream to purchase a property and build a business that allows the space and funding to develop gardens for youth groups and non-gardeners to not only learn about gardening and homesteading, but to also spend a day or two trying it out to see if it’s something they would like to do. Explaining the whole project would take a while, so I’ll suffice to say that it’s a very long-term, expensive goal.
In the meantime, though, I’m applying for my local Extension’s Master Gardening Program, continuing to expand my personal garden, and reducing my food waste by learning how to preserve my produce.
Thant's great, Sarah. Best wishes in fulfilling your dream and making a difference. Thanks.
Sharing this wonderful story on my MeWe page!
Awesome!
Thanks! 🙂
What an Awesome Video, tc. HoppyBob
Thank you very much.
Wonderful
Thanks!
Agree everyone needs to know there is no majic store that food comes from , But the stores only merchants that handle the transaction of food.
Thanks!
Thanks, Pat!
Great video. Was this the first Gardner Scott video on UA-cam ? I have been binge watching this channel since finding it in mid February and just came upon this one . This video was deep, profound and very inspiring.
Thanks! It wasn't my first, but close. It was my 50th video.
Yes
Thank you Gardener Scott. I am in South East Queensland, Brisbane (actually holidaying on the Gold Coast at the moment). Recently retired I now have more time for my hobby, gardening, particularly food gardening. I have been watching some (my wife says, "a lot") of your videos. I just watched this video on Galileo Garden. It brought me to tears! Well done to you and to your community! God bless you all! Dan
Thank you so much, Daniel.
@@GardenerScott PS, I shared the link to it on my Facebook page and it was also well received.
Mr. Scott, just as others I listened to this clip I feel so emotionally touched. You are a real teacher in its very meaning, you instill in students and audience the enthusiasm to love
nature, our community and humanity. Where may i read about your biography? Thank you for the inspiration.
Thank you very much. I don't have a biography, just what you see and hear in my videos.
💚💚💚
Enjoyed the story Scott! will miss the hat :-)
Thanks, Steve.
I call the little cherry tomatoes my M & Ms
What kind of current bushes do you have in the garden? This video inspires me to grow more. Thank you. 😊
I have a few different types, but the Gwen's Buffalo is doing best.
Learning a lot from your videos. I have a question. What are the pros and cons of using landscape fabric over raised beds? I just started some beds this year and put fabric down and then mulched with straw.
I use mulch and don't use landscape fabric. You have to put holes in it to plant and that defeats the purpose of using it as a barrier.
The great story and I want aplication in my school. Can help us? How are I begining to school garden. ?
Begin by setting up a team to design the garden, find money, and organize volunteers.
Who in the world can take your place in the Galileo Garden?
a mixed wonder; sad to leave, still it is.
Due to shameful people we lost our Boy Scout program, What a shame.
