If I want a challenge with finesse, I fly F-19. If I want to go out and have fun blowing things up, F-15 II is among my favorites. If I want to try realistically immersing in a Cold War-style surgical strike, F-117A has that covered. I may never stop being fascinated by how much more interesting a weapons platform the assumed F-19 would've been had it been real. One time the cadets in my Civil Air Patrol squadron were tasked with designing new fighters as an aerospace education exercise; the two results were a dedicated air superiority master something like the F-14 Super Tomcat, the other a multipurpose stealth type which remarkably matched the F-19. As Red Storm Rising (the novel) and F-19 Stealth Fighter show, its better payload and performance comes at some cost of stealth which would have it suffering considerable casualties in wartime airspace (contrast with how the sacrifice-everything-for-stealth F-117 performed in the Gulf War).
Absolutely agree! Fascinating, that you guys came up with two very relevant concepts! Seeing as the Super Tomcat was a potential new development for real! The novel part about the F-19 was very exciting for those reasons you describe there, it being more vulnerable. It is my favorite aircraft that never existed :D
I never played these but incredible work!
Thanks so much!
This looks awesome! Your dedication to modding these venerable games warms this retro flight sim fan's heart.
Feedback like that makes it all worth it! :) Thank you!
