It's hilarious how consistent the quality is from SH Figuarts. One moment you'll get a masterpiece of an almost perfect figure and then another moment you'll get absolute crap like this
To be fair, I blame the original design. The guy who designed this version of Ultron probably didn't think about how it could be turned in to a toy later. Even the Hot Toys one is a mess.
Shading/lighting really seems to have been an important component to the CGI design of Ultron, and in "inappropriate" lighting settings he probably _would_ look quite odd. For instance in that Norway highway scene, when Ultron and Captain America fight atop a truck, Ultron _is_ that silver-gray color, which makes him look flat and, well, _fake._ But in the darkness of that church in Sokovia he looked much more real and menacing, since the darkness really allowed that red light to pop. Although I might also point out that Ultron literally changes color between the Sokovia meet-with-the-Maximoff-twins scene and the Norway highway scene. If you were to color him that darker metallic-gray he'd probably look a lot more badass. As for the articulation: there's a problem everywhere, because that's just the way Ultron's CGI model is. There's pretty much _no way_ to improve the articulation without taking significant leave from screen-accuracy, or compromising all-around aesthetic or durability, at least not with something this small. And since this thing is clearly meant to look good above all else, well, there you go. Revoltech did so much better because they don't tend to care as much about visible joint pieces, and they seemed to have traded a screen-accurate Ultron face sculpt for one that captures his character better. And to all that that you might say, "Why didn't they make the damn thing bigger and more to scale?" Which is a perfectly valid point. There simply _isn't_ a way to create the perfect Ultron figure. If even Hot Toys struggles with this character, set your expectations low for any other company.
Yes you can, do you even own it? The articulation is way better, no matter how strangely they configured it. If you can't take 2 min to figure it out, that's your problem.
Yeah I own one, the shoulder joint breaks if you try to move the arms forward. And I've never seen a picture of a Revo Ultron that actually has the arms moved forward.
+Daniel Craig The joint is pinned in at 90 degrees into the arm, specifically for moving forward. If the joint is stuck, apply a little bit of heat to loosen it
Yeah, I've got it too, and the arms are definitely designed to move. Yes, I have to pretty much dismantle them to get all the pegs unstuck, but they do work. Kind of typical for Revoltech, in my experience, and I'm not real fond of the company for that reason, but the sculpt and paint on their Ultron is excellent, and for the price, I'm fine with using a little elbow grease to get him working.
i can not believe this figure came out so bad, i bought and reviewed the revoltech ultron and really like it but to be honest when i bought it this sh one went up for preorder and i really wanted it, the preorder looked great but was to expensive i gave about 50$ for the revoltech and after seeing some reviews on this one im so glad i went with it even though i normally love SH
I honestly think that the Ultron Prime design is just poorly design. There hasn't been a company that can make a perfect Ultron Prime figure because the design of him is too complex and I personally think it's hideous. Hot Toys is just as bad as the Figuarts one since parts of him tend to break easily and that's almost a $400 dollar figure.
I have the Hot Toys Ultron..the parts that breaking out always is just the battery compartment external closure at the arms, other parts is ok,no problem but i would say Hot toys must put some diecast parts to this Ultron to make it more Steady & Solid that will not make it look fragile.

I hope u can pan the camera angle down so that u can review the figure on the table. And when you are comparing the figures we can actually see the whole comparison rather than just the body and half of the legs. Reviewing it on the table also enables us to see the figure as a whole and see the proportions of it better. There is space above the figure in the video, that space can be exchange to the bottom of the screen than just being nothing and stopping us from looking at the whole figure. Just a thought i had for a long time and now i am finally telling u. Hope u can change it and i am sure alot of people will agree.
i just spend a lot on the mezco exclusive captain america i hope it doesn't disapoint like ultron. have you gotten any of the mezco 1/12 collective figures anthony?? i have the frank miller batman and its one of my favorite figures.
Spoon Dude proportions are atrocious aside from the batman. the joints look terrible under the cloth and the cloth isnt even close to scaled properly...such that they all look like they are wearing sweaters. some of them hid it better than others of course.

The Frank Miller Batman is fantastic, captures the look of the comic pretty fantastically. I don't own any of the other Mezco myself but I've got the punisher on pre-order.
I blew up my Revoltech version because of the stupid shoulder joints that fell out when you looked at them. Now I am utterly disappointed in this Ultron as well lol. I thoroughly enjoyed your review and knew exactly what to expect lol
Glad I dodged a bullet and got the Revoltech. It has problems with the hip/thigh articulation but it has much better range in the torso and shoulders. And costs much less than this.
My son wanted it so much, i bought it second hand for 80€, but what are those articulations? Impossible to lift the shoulders. Only good point compared to marvel legends, another pair of hands, that's all. For the arms and lack of shoulders movement, they put a notice in the box telling not to force. What the bandai, just like the poor quantity of dx macross we can buy, there is a big problem with the managers of the collection department.
your wrong about two things on this figure... you said its terrible in every way... however. it is not. the sculpting it quite accurate and well done even if the face is derpy. and i mean sculpting in general not like the sculpting is bad because they didnt consider articulation (which is true the sculpt is bad in the way of accommodating the articulation) but thats not what i mean. i mean its good as far as sculpting goes in a statue kind of way. its accurate and detailed. also the dull paint IS accurate to ultron prime, which is what he is when he tears the first body in half in front of black widow. the one that gets torn IS shiny but the end battle ultron is dull cuz of vibranium. but idt this is ultron prime. other than those two things ur right this figure blows and is a HUGE missed opportunity.

I love SHF but this release is impossible to defend, I agree with everything you've said (though I don't believe this is one of the worst figures you own, but that's just me). Making it online-exclusive and therefore more expensive is only the icing on the cake; though maybe this way they accidentally protected the line's prestige by giving Ultron as little exposure as possible. If only Black Panther was a regular release... Since you said there's no way in hell you'll get Revo Ultron, it'd be nice if someone sent it to you and have an honest review about him; I have a few revoltechs myself but I can 100% understand why you're annoyed by their joints and sculpt.

Wow...this figure is downright horrible. Don't get me wrong. The Hasbro one wasn't an amazing figure by any means, but it was basically a freebie when you bought the whole wave. And, at least that one had good height and more functional articulation.

The Revoltech Ultron is not great. It's a POS as well. Paint is better, articulation is "better" but you can't even rotate the arms forward.

Ultron was 8ft tall. Iron Man was 6’1, so in my opinion the size comparison wasn’t that off. Iron man should come to the top of his chest

Wow...this figure is downright horrible.
Don't get me wrong. The Hasbro one wasn't an amazing figure by any means, but it was basically a freebie when you bought the whole wave. And, at least that one had good height and more functional articulation.
If you paint that one silver it's pretty okay looking, at least for a Marvel Legends.
Trust me man. Get the Revoltech ultron. It is a really good figure, has a better price and is 100 time better than this piece of crap. Trust me.
AND it has WAY better articulation

I want a good movie Ultron figure the marvel legends one was fine but this one seemed good threw pictures but with your reaction I does not look good
And we thought the marvel legends one was bad
The last couple of reviews of figures have been disappointing. Have the quality of action figures gone down while the price went up?

tsk this is a mess..knowing SH Figuarts action figure has a good articulation(not all i think because i don't have one I'm just depending on what i saw from all your reviews) what happen to this and besides its a P-bandai..btw thanks for the review i hope when the time comes that i can afford to buy sh figuarts, play arts, and figma it will not disappoint me heheh
