    Great Idea! I made one for my 24"x48" 100 watt panel. I used the heavier PVC, added a support in the middle and put 3 short feet on the bottom so it is up off the ground. I glued all the pieces together except where the legs have to fold up. I use it to charge the battery in my 13 ft. Scamp. Works great so far! Cost was about $15. I also drilled a hole near each corner on the edge of the frame so I can run a cable lock through in the most convenient hole and lock it to a tree or my camper. Next step is a bag made out of moving blankets that I can zip it into for travel.

      Thank you!! That is what I was going for. I had seen videos of people that would show the frame, but not really go through how they had built it. I would love to know and see what you come up with if you decide to build one for yourself!

    Smart idea. I was considering wood for a stand, but I like your idea better. Lighter weight and more durable as well as (a lot) cheaper. I plan to do a few mods to it. Will send you some pics when I am done. Thanks for the great idea! Mat

    Good job! This was a really concise tutorial and very easy to follow. My wife and I are going to build one for our 30W panel, which will power a bucket swamp cooler at Burning Man. You have made it very simple for us, thanks.

    Excellent idea with the setup you have there. I am in the process of the "hmmm" stage trying to figure out how to make a freestanding setup for the support of my 2 solar panels. I have 100 watt panels that I have joined together with hinges, and still a bit weak in the middle. Now, thanks to watching your video I have more of an idea of how to make them freestanding, and more sturdy. I never gave the pvc pipe construction any thought. Great idea! Thanks for the video. You got my "sub".

    Thank you for posting this! I'm building this stand for a larger pair of panels that are hinged, so the stand will need some additional support for the top panel that folds up. Initially I was simply going to use a telescoping piece of aluminum from an old camera tripod, knowing it's simple to adjust the height, and mount this at the top of the second panel. When raising the 2nd panel above the stand, I can extend the telescoping rod to the ground at the desired length to create the right angle (and to match the bottom panel's angle with the ground). Any ideas or suggestions for improvement, or using a different method entirely to support the top panel?

    Great content. Gives me the perfect design to build a small stand for one of my PV panels to use during Amateur Radio Field Day. I was looking for something adjustable and, who'd a thunk, just don't use PVC cement! I like the anchor eyelets (I wondered why I recently bought the same tent stakes from Walmart!). What I will do is add two upper eyelets to attach guy "ropes" (really thin parachute cord) to stake the thing down. We have lost a few solar panels during prior Field Days when a gust of wind whips through our site. [Consider editing this video; even reshooting it as the content is valuable, as the roving camera makes it hard to watch.]

    I am trying to figure out how you attached the panel to the frame.. did you drill through the frame to put the wire ties through?? thanx in advance

    • @ncprepper100
      @ncprepper100  10 років тому

      Thanks for your comment!! In this case, I was lucky and the holes were already in the solar panel frame. So, I did not have to drill any holes. But, if I were going to, I put a wood block between the back of the panel and the frame so that you could drill through the frame and into the wood, and not break the back of the panel. If you build something similar, I would love to see it!!
      If you are interested, I have a link in the description box above to the panel that I got from Amazon.
