The ferries to North are also on the back of the station, at the waterfront, a level lower than the bus station. And the ferry is free, no charge, no ticket.
Great video, but I have a few gripes.
One thing I believe you could’ve mentioned-because I’ve found it to be one of the aspects of the dutch train system that disorients some visitors-is the fact that many trains that stop at Amsterdam Centraal don’t have it as their final destination. So the screens may show an unknown destination in a large font while ‘Amsterdam Centraal’ is just one of many stations down the line.
Besides wanting to go to Amsterdam Centraal, many tourists may have a hotel nearer Amsterdam Zuid, Bijlmer, RAI, Sloterdijk or even Hoofddorp. Especially since Zuid is connected to the city via a metro line, it can serve a much larger catchment area. I believe it would be useful to create a companion video to explain how to get to these other destinations or how to find the best route to a destination in or near Amsterdam in general.

We will definitely be mentioning different "transport hubs" of the city. In general, it's challenging to fully capture everything in a video of a couple of minutes but we're giving it a good try!
Always check in and out by scanning your ticket. This is not only important when going through the turnstyle at Central but on the train if a conductor checks your ticket and its not scanned in before boarding they can fine you. However most conductors are pretty understanding and will cut you some slack.

I can never find the scanner for checking in the ticket at Schiphol, can you describe me how to find it? I am in this same situation right now haha
@@simonux1226 If I am not mistaken they are located on the floor above the train stop around the area where the escalators go down to the train area. They indeed sort of blend end .
@@bobke114 Exactly! ✌ However, they are currently renovating the area above. However, as mentioned in the comment above, it should be next to the escalators or stairs. 🚄

Quick question, I bought an Amsterdam & region travel ticket for two days, I know I need to convert my eticket into a paper ticket, but I am not sure if i can use this ticket for the train to central station or I need to buy an additional ticket in the airport for this purpose?? thanks in advance
Yes, you can collect your regional ticket at the Connexxion Tickets & Info, located at the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (Schiphol Plaza).
You can use your ticket from there on, to travel to the city center as well!

Hey Lional! It's pretty similar to what is mentioned in the video but all that would need to change is your destination. ;)
In this case, you'll need to go to "Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena". That train/metro station is right next to the arena. There are several apps/websites one can use to get directions (9292.nl, ns.nl, and good ol' google maps). There are several trains you can take (Intercity and Sprinter), and you don't need to worry about assigned seating (there are none). Just make sure you are in the right area depending on the ticket you purchase or "OV" card you have (1st or 2nd class cars).

I bought 2 train tickets online in advance from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam Central Station and so I have 2 QR codes on my phone. At :56 it shows the person checking in before going down to the train but that doesn't look like it will scan my phone's QR code ticket? Do I scan my ticket there to check in? Or with my QR code ticket, do I only need to scan it when leaving Amsterdam Central Station since the few videos I've seen show those are capable of scanning a phone's QR code ticket (I think!) Thank you :)
I've got the same problem currently. How did you manage to scan your ticket?
@@amaterasu4792 Since it was last year I honestly don't remember! But I do remember just going to the information desk and asking the person in the booth how to scan the QR codes and they explained it in a simple manner. So maybe try that!
I also learned it's much easier to not worry about buying tickets in advance and just buying them when you get there is very easy as well!

@@amaterasu4792 Yea sounds good! They have lots of kiosks and it's very simple to go through a few menus to pick out the tickets :) And like I said, if you're still a little confused, they have people who work there that can help!
Update - is it true that as of 2024, you don’t have to buy tickets anymore? You can just scan in and out with a contactless credit/debit card or even a phone like Apple Pay or Google Pay?
This is correct! You can check in and out using your contactless debit card, credit card, or mobile phone. For more information, you can check out the NS website.
Is this applicable to all transport within the city ? That’s train / tram / bus?
@@aaronderyl Good question! 💡The City Card is only valid for the municipal GVB bus, tram and metro lines in Amsterdam. Connexxion, R-net and other regional buses, as well as NS train services, are not included.

Yes, you can purchase a ticket to the central station, and travel with the metro from there! :)
Is travel included with the I Amsterdam city pass? Wanting to purchase a 3 day ticket but not sure if this also covers travel from Airport to our hotel in Central Amsterdam.
Good question! The city card includes access to public transport from GVB within Amsterdam. This includes tram/bus/metro. Please note that trains are not included. Yes, you have to scan all the tickets, digital and physical.

No. The IAmsterdam city card does not cover the train. It does provide bus and tram travel, GVB.
Exactly! It covers all transport within Amsterdam via the public transport company GVB. You can also purchase an "Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket" (ARTT) card that allows you to travel to the surrounding areas (via bus or train) nearby by Amsterdam and North Holland (the province) in general.
