My first car as a high school kid in 1973 was a '46. I drove that thing everywhere, and I mean everywhere. It had 5:28 gears and was only good for around a 45 mph. top end but it was a mountain goat off road. It's the only Willy's I didn't keep. Fun times.

My dad was a military man and when he found a 1947 Willys jeep for sale ... he traded an old Yamaha 750SpecialII for it. Man was it a tank! We towed it with us to go deer hunting and no hill was too steep or river too deep. Made for toughness. Push button start and had a 327 small block engine swap. BEAST! Traded it later on for a Ford Mustang Cobra II (just like Farrah's on Charlies Angels with with blue stripes)!! Good trade, great cars both

Old automobiles although I don't see them as old... simply hurt by time and younger judgmental modernist people who never except anything past 2010, but ""older automobiles"" have a charm and set of gift that comes with it. With a modern car, you get it and you just think "alright, this is it I am out on the road in my new car", with an older automobile and I mean anywhere from 60 horsepower (36 mph) in a tonneau 1901 to 400 horsepower in a 1958 Mercury, both very very well for each time era..you get an offer of beauty, enjoyment, and many smiles all for so much cheaper yet higher quality than modern cars that have no glory and beauty to it.

Many years ago I acquired a 1943 (supposedly) CJ2A with split windshield. It had a title that said it had been assembled from spare parts at the Red River Arsenal. It had the standard 4 cylinder engine, shifter for high and low range and a third stick to select four wheel drive. I had it torn down preparing to repair the cracked bell housing and got another job in a distant city. I called a friend and just gave it to him as it sat. Years later he wrote me and told me he had it running and titled. I often wonder where that old beast ended up.

People keep talking about 45 miles per hour being slow, and I'm still left wondering...how? People should be greatful they get to their destination on solid smooth road. My grandparents certainly didn't, my parents were around the first when they were little to have smooth roads.

Chutiye, when you are in the stone age, we tell the whole world about our solar system, Trikonmiti, etc. Then we were perfectly civilized.

Wow you have a very nice jeep.I have a '47 CJ 2-A that is in good condition, rebuilt engine ford brakes as well as other minor repairs. However I've got a lot of more major repairs to deal with.

That was good of you to wave at that 4 door (hard top) cacooned bus. Most of them don't know they're driving an oversized prius.

I wouldn't mind having a willys as a first car. Their cheap to buy, easy to run and easy to fix

It really sucks that we will never see a time again. when such a simple, fundamental, easy to operate, easy to repair, all purpose vehicle will ever be produced again. so much for progress is all I can say?
