- On Day 1 of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, the Republican Party chose Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio to be the party's candidate for vice president. Vance joins former President Donald Trump atop the Republican ticket for the 2024 presidential election.
Vance was joined on the floor of the RNC with his wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, as U.S. Senate candidate Bernie Moreno nominated him for the role.

Boy how things have changed. I remember watching the conventions on a black and white tv in 1952. There was so much drama with each state’s representatives announcing their votes from the floor of the convention hall. No one was ever nominated on the first vote. But after much discussion, debate and political wrangling and 2-3-4 votes later a candidate was finally selected from each party. It was Eisenhower versus Stevenson in 1952. Everything seemed so confused and chaotic and also exciting being televised for the first time.
