- A real-time account of the events on United Flight 93, one of the planes hijacked on September 11th, 2001 that crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania when passengers foiled the terrorist plot.

This scene was directed so perfectly by Paul Greengrass. I really love the transitions from dark, early morning to the first time the sun touches the buildings and the way it's shown in the city. It really captures the innocence of the people who were expecting nothing but a normal Tuesday. And then we see the hijackers preparing themselves for the fight of their life for what they believe in, thinking they are doing the "right" thing. The Arabic praying with the background score ties this whole part together so beautifully. This scene is extremely powerful. Probably one of the best beginning scenes in a film I've seen, that too touching a very sensitive and delicate moment that we remember clear as yesterday.
U r so true
The opening is so incredibly detailed when the hijackers are preparing for the attack . But they didn’t know they were gonna die cause it was a suicide mission by osama bin laden when manipulated there minds .
@@gabethedinosaur95 They did know they would perish. But believed that it was a worthy sacrifice to attack the enemy. American presence in the Middle East was not appreciated by many, and it is known the American people elect their own leaders, so Al Qaeda believed that is justification to kill our innocent citizens.
Yeah I enjoy it too. Mm mm. I love how the terrorists are getting ready for their big mission under the influence of no other than Osama bin Laden.

Such a haunting, surreal scene. The shot of New York City waking up as the twilight sky transitions to morning, thousands of pedestrians and drivers going about their daily lives - oblivious to the nightmare ahead - the emotional background music, the Arabic prayers, the terrorists bracing themselves and getting ready to change the world forever....such an overwhelming scene. 💔
I loved how the very same music was used in my nightmares of United 93. It was just another normal night for me before Zaid decided to change my life forever by being forced into hijacking united 93 with him; I’ll never forget the emotional music playing as I looked at Woody not knowing it would be the last time I’ll see him again, I hugged him one last time before I snuck out. It got more upsetting with Woody waking up as normal until he discovers I had gone missing and Woody knew exactly where I was. I couldn’t have imagined what Woody must’ve been feeling and he feared the worst for me not coming back, Woody had flashbacks of when I boarded United 93 and he didn’t know I was in love with Zaid just hours before this happened so Woody was fearing the worst for both of us. Such a haunting opening scene for my United 93 nightmares to open like that. I won’t forget that nightmare for a long time

These actors were incredible. They should, all of them, have received a group Oscar nomination.
They were, I hope the actors don’t get targeted because they played the terrorists role very well. I heard Jamie was crying during production because he said it felt so real
This movie increased us military recruitment by 26% in 2007
Suckers
1998-2009 have great cinematography that holds up to this day
The knife at 0:57 is a ceramic knife. Ceramic knives aren't usually made out of metal at all, so metal detectors wouldn't be able to detect them. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the hijackers actually did use ceramic knives on 9/11.
And that's why after 9/11, even nail nippers became prohibited in the hand luggage, galley meals were served with disposable plastic tableware, cockpit doors are now armored and code-locked and security checks became too rigorous.
When I watched this scene I always ask myself questions about them. Did they knew what they were going to do was wrong? Were there times that they wanted to backout? Did they knew an evil man was going to sacrifice them for a fuck up idea of peace? We'll never know, because those 19 men are dead along with millions of innocent souls and they took those answers to their graves.
@Giovani Turja i believe u I saw it too , I think there were bombs and the government try to blame it on Osama 🤷🏻♀️
@Giovani Turja You can't say more for "government reasons"? Seriously? You're in the *UA-cam comments* and you're *twelve,* no one is stopping you. Tell us more.
That's the interesting note about flight 93 in particular. Every other hijacked plane had 5 hijackers. 93 only had 4. To this day, they believe there was a 5th hijacker who chickened out. There was one less man in the back keeping the passengers at bay. But there's nothing in any of the personal info recovered or the flight recorders that suggests they thought about backing out. They knew months, maybe ever a few years in advance that they were going to be using planes as suicide weapons. They made peace with that decision long before September 11th, 2001. And I'm in no way sympathizing with those monsters, but they did not see it as evil or wrong. They were fanatics with a strict following and interpretation of the Quran and they believed what they were being ordered to do was for the betterment of the middle east, the Muslim people and people in general by attacking the U.S. who had spent years upon years attacking their own countries. This was payback in their eyes for wrongs committed by the U.S. in the decades prior.
It seemed the pilot hijacker was a little hesitant at first
@@F5Storm1 In the movie, yes
one of the most frightening opening scenes ever
Yea, I couldn’t believe my nightmares opened the same kind of way, united 93 started on a normal night for me until I sneaked out of the house without Woody knowing and his reaction finding out I was missing got into the movie; it was so heartbreaking knowing that Woody might not see me again, little did I know what I dragged myself into.
This is one of my favourite opening scenes in any film.
So powerful. So many small details that go into it to make it tell the story in its best form. For me, 01:37 is moving. Driving to the airport and on the way looking over to the twin towers- the same buildings they would then proceed to fly into in just a matter of hours. Incredible when you think about. Those men were looking into their future, knowing that they would be the instrument in killing not just the thousands of people on that day, but the many, many more who would die because of the Iraq / Afghan War that was a result of this attack.
these 4 guys werent the ones part of the flight that flew into the towers. this was about united 93.

They really did an amazing job establishing tension from the start and not letting up. I would imagine that's not an easy thing to do.

Thanks for uploading, been searching for this opening scene, I own the original DVD of this movie, director Paul greengrass handled this subject respectfully with utmost care and touch. 🙏

Now I just found out that my dvd refused to work in the uk because it was a US copy. I had a bit of an emotional breakdown and i kept blaming myself for why the passengers on flight 93 died. My grandmother was heartbroken by my reaction and I cried until 3am
1:35 I see this view pretty regularly (without the Towers obviously) driving up the NJ turnpike to work, with the planes right over my head going to Newark Liberty like they showed.
I fly out of Newark regularly, and remembered seeing the Towers from a distance.

@ALBERT MALONE Then let them get offended
@ALBERT MALONE Nahh but are you?💩
Greengrass brought a sense of horror to this opening scene. I'd seen the tv movie Flight 93 a few months before this and Greengrass was going to call the film Flight 93 until he heard about the T.V film with the same title so changed it to United 93. Everything was downplayed for a PG audience with Flight 93 but United 93 had me numb and in shock with the power it was letting off. Coming out of it I felt nearly sick and in a daze about what I had seen. Though I and all of us knew the outcome it was done in a way that still makes you believe that they could of taken the plane back. It disturbed me so much that it was 4 years before I could find the courage to watch it again. Back then I was only familiar with Paul Greengrass because of The Bourne Supremacy and didn't know about his documentary style of filmmaking or background in journalism. A couple of years ago I also finally saw Bloody Sunday and I knew then how he got picked for Bourne. That was another shell shocking film experience. I still believe United 93 is his best movie but damn does this guy know how to reconstruct true life events for a cinema screen.
Universal united 93 is absolutely brilliant and so emotional of the day . He got real people for the film and flight 93 I did alright but I prefer a better story of the real flight that had real people who had the courage to stand up as one
My nightmare of the opening scene in united 93 is more horrifying because I know that Zaid is changing my life and also Woodys life but Zaid doesn’t know about Woody yet. I thought the scene with Woody waking up to find out I was gone was more horrifying because he didn’t realise it as me and Zaid were taking over the plane, that’s when Woody realised where I went. I dread Woodys reaction when he finds out that I died, that’s going to be too emotionally intense when Zaid regretfully tells him what happened and they both start fighting over it all. I just dread it
Is it just me or is it almost portraying them in a half-way sympathetic light as just brainwashed victims of ideological fanaticism? Which is really a very sophisticated perspective to have of these events.
I can see why you would think that. The fact that they all prayed the night before the attacks as a way to prepare themselves to die for their religious beliefs and their unwavering commitment to carry out the attacks indicates that. The only one that somewhat wavered and may have wanted to back out entirely was Ziad Jarrah, the lead hijacker on United 93, until he was talked out of it by Mohamed Atta, the ringleader of the 9/11 attacks. Jarrah apparently wanted to remain alive as he had a girlfriend and had planned a life together with her before he was brainwashed by Osama bin Laden, but Atta convinced him that wanting to remain here on Earth and hold on to earthly possessions was sinful to Allah (God). If only Jarrah had fully convinced himself that what he and his accomplices were about to do before they did it was morally wrong, then he might have been able to convince them too and there might have been one less terrorist attack on 9/11.
@@ZIC26
That made me synthesise with Zaid in a way because he knew 9/11 was wrong and I would loved him more if he’d told the other terrorists it was wrong. I couldn’t imagine what he must’ve been feeling
@@nicolelawless9942 As conflicted and torn as he might have been (and obviously we will never know for sure), he still went through with the plot even though Flight 93 failed to reach its intended target and he most likely only crashed the plane to avoid being apprehended and having their part of the plot foiled when the passengers on that plane when they decided to revolt and fight back to retake control of the plane. Him going through with the plot makes him just as bad as the 18 other hijackers no matter if he was conflicted and torn about it or not. What’s shady about 9/11 is that apparently not all of the hijackers knew they were on a suicide mission and Osama Bin Laden apparently admitted to this revelation. The pilot hijackers were apparently instructed not to say anything to them about the true nature of their mission until all of them were already on board the planes. If this is true, then it shows you how much of a treacherous snake that bin Laden really was and if he had to lie by omission in order to achieve an objective aka attacking the US, he would do it and he found 19 sacrificial lambs to do his bidding.

Somehow I cant blame people having islamophobia. These people can do great lengths to fullfill their interpretation of religion. They believed with these act of violence they are absolve and rewarded.
Religion was supposed to give humanity a chance for salvation. Now I think it is built to amplify the chance of damnation.
Not all Muslims are bad
This only portrays a small subset of a large amount of people. Most muslims are peaceful people who don’t believe in any form of violence at all. These people were brainwashed by a person who had a warped view of that religion. The religion in itself was never the problem. The people involved were the problem
Islam is a big no no most muslims are good people
There's a difference between hating an ideology and the people who practice it, fyi religion was never about morals, most muslims christians etc would never do these things but the books they read and believe in claim it's justified to do these things

what is the name of background music?
"Prayers", from the United 93 ost
I love how united 93’s music was used in my nightmares about 3 weeks ago now. The movie opened with me on a normal late night staring at Woody but I didn’t think that would be the last time I’d see him. About 4am, I snuck out of the house from my window to meet Zaid and the others there and I didn’t know we were hijacking United 93 and thank god I refused it. It was very haunting because I was trying to be on the plane like normal but I just kept thinking “This isn’t going to end well”, Zaid told me everything was going to be fine but I knew something was off. After boarding United 93, Woody wakes up as normal until he discovers that I had gone missing; it hurt him greatly but he didn’t know I would die when I knew it. It’s going to be horrible when Woody finally finds out
