I absolutely love this song, it makes you want to get up and dance whenever you hear it 🎶 that’s why it’s now a Northern Soul dance Classic, I’m now 73yrs old and still Keeping The Faith 🤘🏼anyone else listening in 2024 😎👍🏻
same age buddy...almost....and love this music and can't stand today's with few exceptions. good for you in the UK.
@@Rodin99 I'm knocking 76 and I remember when this was originally released in 1965. the B side was First I Look at the Purse, equally good. Keep the Faith.
@@gnomely1 first I Look....was known to me thru J Geils Band when I was in college.
@@Rodin99 I met J Geils in 1982 when his band was supporting the Stones at my local football stadium ,St James's Park in Newcastle. He hired a classic motor bike from a friend and gave us tickets for the show. Great result all round. It's good to have corresponded with you and I hope we're both around for a lot more years. My wife and I lived in N Carolina during the 70s, north of Fayetteville. Had a great time. Keep well and keep the faith.
@@gnomely1 Wow...thanks for the memories. and the nice thoughts.
If you are here it means you have impeccable taste for good music!
Danced many Friday nites to this song amoung many at Chez Vous ballroom outside of Philly back in the day. Brings back good memories.
These guys were the epitome of cool. Great, great song.
The great Dennis Edwards singing in the back. The Contours were a fantastic group...!!!
Love seeing Dennis Edwards in his pre-Temptations days.
Still sounds good in 2022. Look at the young Dennis Edwards.
Greatest musical era ever, thank god we have UA-cam to remind us all these great tunes.
So glad I grew up in this era of fantastic music. I feel sorry for young people today...their music sucks and has not soul or even a beat.
Best Tamla record ever co written by Stevie Wonder who played the drums on it as well when he was 15yrs old, Top draw
dennis edwards ........moving and grooving ........ LONG LIVE THE FUNK BROTHER MUSIC !!!
One of the best songs to come out of the Motown stable .The contours were so under rated by the powers that be .Joe Billingslea voice was made for Motown songs .Love him .
The lead singer on this song was Joe Stubbs(Levi's Brother), who had already left the group before this appearance.
Dennis went from dancing from the back (from most of the UA-cam clips that I've seen) with the Contours to singing lead with the Temptations.
He sang lead on the songs that wer4 recorded while he was actually with the group
Yes he was very good but no one comes close to David Ruffin..forever loved .
Both of you have strong arguments.
@@christinemcgough8111That's not true, David is just your favorite singer... But as far as talent wise, Ollie woodson was the best lead singer for The temptations, by far !!!!!
I am 71 Years old and am listening using my ear phones, this is great.
Still listening in 2023
Me 2
The Contours just below me away tears running down my face as I listen fabulous
Love this tune, I am 84 and go Northern Souling with two of my daughters, keeps me young.😊
A Mega dance track on the Northern soul Scene in the UK - Never Ever tire of the fabulous Classic -Love the Contours!
Not northern
@@jonphillips5232 from the Northern Soul Top 500 >> 211. Contours - Just a Little Misunderstanding (Gordy)
Who would think that an unassuming Dennis Edwards would shortly thereafter front one of the greatrst vocal groups, the Temptations. Check it Out! Ciao!!!
Thanks for letting people know Dennis Edwards is in this group
Yes! But you bet music lovers universally have already checked them out!
A very young unassuming Dennis Edwards - comfortable in the back, doing his thing and paying his dues ! Great memories 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽✊🏾
I hear you on that he was always in the background if they only knew he was more then a background singer a great superstar
Cream always rises to the top !Dennis Edwards definitely rose to the top with the temptations!
One of the best ever Motown singles .Joe Billingslea is a brilliant lead singer who was so underrated by the Motown moguls
The lead singer in this clip is Billy Gordon, Joe Billingslea already left Motown in 1964 and the Contours behind him in this clip were the newer additions to the group because all the other originals left Motown due to creative differences.
The actual lead singer that he's lip-syncing was Joe Stubbs.
Always loved the "our love surely can be mended" action.....Motown choreography at it's height...
Very much like the 4 tops moves.
A Monumental Belting Northern Soul Classic From These Amazing Guys. Thank You For This Great Majestic Memory.
Wow, I remember this song has a child! His voice is soooo powerful!!! I love this song and watching the Contours perform it
is absolutely beautiful!!
That's not the real lead singer up there, I hope you know. I don't know who it is but it's not Joe Stubbs.
Had the Great pleasure of seeing these Guys in 2016 ....... 2012 Lock down and they are still keeping me going
Wow a young Dennis Edwards !
Honey Brown 52 ~ yep, a skintee Dennis pay’n his dues 👍🏿👌🏾
Levi's brother Joe Stubbs actually sings lead on this song.
fantanstic
Really?! 🤓
No wonder whythe choreography look look similar.
Wow! His voice is outstanding!!!
J K Kelly You are correct. He was the lead and was out the group before this was aired. I’m joes daughter. Thanks for commenting
This such a great song, listen to it all the time, and it’s so difficult to not want to get up dancing
I always loved the Motown choreography. This record is in my top 10 Motown favorites, and that is really saying something.I have it on a Motown album that is loaded with great records.Thank you Berry Gordy for your wonderful creation known to all as Motown.
Berry Gordy 💗
Ain't nothing like the real Thing..stolen not returning
@@JeanManess stolen ?
This song was co-written by the Miracles and Stevie Wonder. If I am not mistaken it is Joe Stubbs (brother of Levi from the Four Tops) on his only song as lead for the Contours too.
You are correct
All that talent from the streets, churches, schools, all wound up in Detroit at the same time! However, it is Joe Stubbs singing lead here; his first with the Contours! Younger brother of Levi and former lead singer of The Falcons before being replaced by wicked Wilson Pickett on "I Found A Love"! That Falcon band was precursor to the funk of the Ohio Players!
You are correct Joe Stubbs is leading this song. Thank You
Joe wasn't singing lead here. Jerry Green is singing lead
What fantastic choreography and a fabulous tune xx
This is another one of the great songs that I loved to dance too.
Best music ever and loved to watch the groups dancing
Another brilliant song I love this one good to dance to ktf ❤❤❤🎉🤩😊😎🤗
Oh yeah! I saw the Contours perform this gem at the Uptown Theater in Philly! I never forgot it. Motown Revue Tour. 🎉❤
Don’t get much better than this , Top draw co written by Stevie Wonder when he was 15,
A very young Dennis Edwards...
This was such a good session...fun in studio A recording sessions. Looking back i had a fantastic life, in studio A
We LOVE you Ms Louvain!! Your the greatest
His voice just floats along the melody ,he’s
Singing to his own beat , and that intro wow .
Wow!! some beautiful memories have just come flooding back
My grandad used to play this all the time
Brilliant find for me and The Contours are brilliant
especially the dancing

I'm Right Back At The Casino.
Cheers 🍻 👏 ✌️ 🥂 For This Majestic Casino Anthem. ❤❤❤.
Some badd ass singing and doing some badd ass moves in that tiny little space they have! Amazing! They make it seem so easy, but if you and I try it we'd all be falling off the steps and wind up in the hospital, do you agree?
Agree
Brilliant record.....absolutely brilliant
The guy singing Lead was Joe Stubbs , Levi Stubbs of the four tops younger brother !!!!!
Absolute stonker brill one of my favorites
One of the best song i have Heard they are increíbles god bless them all
This is the most melodic record I've ever heard out of The Contours.
"It's So Hard Being A Loser" is even more beautiful, as Dennis Edwards' voice, when he sang more mellow songs was smoother than Joe Stubbs' gravelly voice.
Joe was a smooth tenor, you must be thinking of billy Gordon.
@@robbk1 Joe Stubbs does not have a gravelly voice, you must be thinking of Billy Gordon.
@@MsElaineLewis That's just a matter of opinion. To me, Joe Stubbs has a moderately gravelly voice, and Billy Gordon has an extremely gravelly voice. Nat King Cole and Sam Cooke had smooth voices.
Joe's voice was moderately gravelly in at least parts of most of his Falcons' songs, too. But, yes, he sang fairly smoothly on his ballads.
Im 75yoa thank god i was around to experience this brilliant music
wonderful footage !
Lost count how many times that opening riff has dragged me onto a dance floor ?
One of my all time Northern favourites - brings back memories of the George at Wilby and the Manchester Twisted Wheel circa 1969
STILL LOVING THIS!!! THANKS!
How did the Fiur Tops not end up recording this song? The Contours did it well, but the arrangement iwas perfect for the Tops and they had a bigger name in those days and might have had a bigger hit with this song.
Levi Stubbs lil brother Joe was the actual lead on this song. He was out the group by the time this was taped
Excellent ultra rare performance - Many thanks for sharing these priceless videos
+jeffcher10 Thankyou please do drop by on my other channel ua-cam.com/channels/6OOf8LJlq_eGT55bEpbZlw.html
Great club classic with a great B side too!
Fabulous, just discovered this gem....Great!
Never gets boring luv luv luv watching this. Lots of memories
This is a very beautiful song, I love it and I will play it offten
Love this video, love the song. Such energy and drive!
These men are so cool and fine.
On the record Joe Stubbs leads but that is Billy Gordon who is leading this performance. Sylvester Potts and Jerry Green in front of Dennis Edwards are doing the steps and making a great job too
+theboyfromxtown Thankyou John...need to change information again...OMG LOL
Correction, on the clip we are viewing, that is not Billy Gordon as the lead singer!
@@robertvelez9557 ITS COUNSEL GAYE HE TOOK BILLY GORDONS PLACE
Correct. Billy was gone by 66’
@@benjaminadler6149 How would you explain Billy performing on the youtube posting of Its So Hard To Be A Loser which although recorded in December 1966 was not released until March 1967?
great video check out Dennis Edwards in the middle
+Bob Watson Thankyou Bob...he went on to join The Temptations
Yes matey 66 an still a good dancer to this xx never too old to keep the faith xx
fantastic. great to see another rare clip of an underrated song.
happy 86 th Birthday Joe 14/11/23
Really rate this record, so upbeat
Not really a hit but good song. Dennis Edwards- who knew his future!
Wow a very Young Dennis hiding in the background
I now understand why Aretha Franklin was madly in love with Dennis Edwards. Her song, "Day Dreaming and Thinking of You" was about Dennis.
Class act,great dance moves!!
Just amazing video.
How it was. KTF.
I think there was a misunderstanding concerning the size of the platform the backup singers had to work on.
2024 mow. Great classic from my younger days!
I don’t know how I missed this song . I would have liked this
Superb, thanx for this (almost) forgotten Soul oldie...Classic!
I hear you are not posting any more rare R&B videos and I feel that your fans (including myself) deserve an explanation!
+Robert Velez...you already know I have another channel!!...but it's to do with copyrights...too many your account closes...however I also have footage of performances from various shows which some companies don't like us showing for everyone to see for free? I already got strikes for David Frost Videos...3 and your account gets terminated so don't want to push my luck...would be nice if they could stay up a little longer don't you think?

My cuz sung with the Contours, at one time......
The Late Ron Banks of THE DRAMATICS, himself a Detroit native, 😊once said: “ THE CONTOURS whooped the Temptations’ A_ _es in EVERY show that the two groups appeared in together!!”
But Berry Gordy put the Motown promotion dollars behind The Temptations due to their greater “crossover” potential.
very young Dennis Edwards
Does anyone anywhere know if or not Dennis Edward's ever sing with the group "the Contours" July Campbell the drummer of the lifers group. Peace
Yes
Mint mint if this don't wanna get you up and dance nothing will so sit down you ain't got no soul
What more do you want to bop around the dance floor
This my number 1 all-time favourite. No idea why, just is.
1:53 ,clearly the 3 sweet songstresses of Motown on backgrounds.
Hearing this many years ago was the start of my love of NS.
very nice trak thank for the sharing
The first time that I went to the Twisted Wheel Club in Manchester this was playing as a entering the club. The year was 1968.
One of my favourites , together with take him back if it makes you happy 👍
Brilliant
Great music
The choreography is awesome
I'm hear still dancing to this song at 70
The group the Foundations was influenced by this particular song when they recorded Baby Now That I Found You
