The price is worth it when you factor in the fact that MacBooks (and apple products in general) last MUCH longer than others, you could use at 5 year old MacBook and it would run fine but a 5 year old windows laptop wouldn't run so we'll...

Have the Macbook Air 2018 in Gold. Couple of months now, works absolutely fine for me.
Loved my 12" MacBook until I updated to Mojave, switched over to a fully loaded Surface Pro 6 and love it. I can edit basic videos on it but nothing heavy. Windows is decent now also plus a SD card reader is convenient. Surprised Apple is going this route with their hardware honestly

I am using the 2018 MacBook Air in 2023. it is beginning to show its age but it still does fine with basic web browsing,. recently upgraded it to macOS Sonoma. battery life is still far better than my 2021 dell Inspiron

If he had filmed with 4k and zoomed in the resulution would have gotten worse while with 8k you couldn't see the true resolution anyway so there is no loss in pixels.

This, at least in my opinion, is actually one of the stupidest no-risk decisions they have made. They already have the Macbook, which they could have turned into their smallest, lightest, cheapest model. Then take some risks on this one. It seems silly to have 2 laptops so similar in the same lineup. Don't make this just an "it's fine" laptop like the Macbook is, make it something that will make people go "...and that's why I bought a Macbook Air". There's gotta be something

Different things are important to different people. For me, priorities are screen size and storage. I want 15" and 1TB of storage. I have no options with Apple for this without spending $3,000 plus. Crazy!

I’ve been using a 2013 MacBook Air 13 inch i7 with 8 GB RAM as my primary laptop since 2013. It works pretty good for me, still fast like day 1, but then again I’m not a pro power user.

The screen did get a software update a few months ago. It is brighter now.
The issue I see is that if you need a laptop for web browsing and email, a Chromebook can do that for $200. And if you need to do anything more intense than watch a 1440p UA-cam video, than a Macbook Pro 13-inch is only $200 more (Apple's cheapest MacBook Pro is now $1300 for a quad-core 8th gen i5 with touchbar as of writing this comment, the dual-core without touchbar is no longer available on the site).

I think this laptop was really not that great until 2020 when they added the magic keyboard and make it well priced and now especially with apple m1 now it’s excellent

Contrary to most other comments on this video, I'm always appreciative of how Marques does not berate Apple products for being expensive right up front. He always presents them in a non-biased, factually based way. Everyone and their mother knows you can get more bang for buck with Windows/Android. Doesn't mean the market for Apple aesthetics isn't there, or that the products are garbage.
That said, I've yet to switch away from my OnePlus 3T and my Windows 10 desktop. I'd really like to see Apple actually make consumer upgrade-able products, but I don't find that likely to happen.
I really wanna switch to a windows laptop but I just love the connectivity of all the Apple devices.

Apples biggest selling point with the Mac at this point is macOS.
I bought a bought an 11 inch MacBook air in 2014 and used it for 3 years until the screen broke, and then I got a 700 dollar windows 10 laptop with 3× the ram, a much better processor, and a screen that was 1080p and 3 inches bigger.
My Mac was fixed now that prices have gone down, and 2 years later I'm still excited to switch back to it. I'm excited for macOS and how everything just works.
And before I'm completely destroyed in the replies, I'm still keeping my larger windows PC. Even though windows is a bit clunky on my laptop, it's still powerful; and I need that power for autoCAD and other programs.
Face ID on a MacBook will be a good idea and great experience
I’m a little underwhelmed by the new Air. But then, I’m a little bit underwhelmed by a lot these days. Seems as though in the whole tech arena, people are just reinventing stuff that’s already been done. We need some new ideas.
Face ID requires re-adjusting the angle of the display, or positioning your head so that you are parallel to Face ID sensor. No that convenient for a laptop.

A nice well balanced review if your interested in this machine. Unfortunately Apple are entering a rinse your existing customers for money phase as they are reaching saturation point for their products. That's why nearly all of their products are simply $200 overpriced. As a long time Apple customer, it's now just a matter of will you continue to pay? The answer for me would probably be yes, but I really resent being sold dongle's to solve the removal of ports that should not have been removed, especially on 'PRO' products
Apple has been "removing ports" (and drives, and yada yada) since the return of Jobs and original Blueberry iMac (for which everyone bought the same 3rd party docking station right out the gate). It's not new. It's what they have always done. I'm not sure why you expect them to act differently now.
it's more then 200 dollars overpriced.. I have a 300 dollars laptop that is a quad core i5 that beats this poor dual core macbook any day. This laptop has a low amount of storage, no GPU, a pathetic CPU and one of the worse keyboards I've ever tried. Very mushy, no travel and has a membrane plastic under it. It's just a joke in my opinion. The only thing I give them credit for is their form factor. Making a thin and light laptop is quite expensive therefore I would say this laptop is worth 600-800 USD. 1200 USD for this is just people not caring about anything and buying it for macOS. They could make a 10 000 USD as cheapest laptop with the same specs and the same argument would hold true, it has Mac OS.
@@alliejr I think it's more about how drastically they've been removing them. It started out with the audio jack, which in my opinion was fine because Bluetooth headphones were already available and somewhat common. However, with the laptops, they went all out and removed every single port, apart from the audio jack, and replaced it with USB-C, which wasn't that common at that time. Compared to the times of Jobs and iMac etc. they would remove one or two ports that weren't that necessary anymore. In other words, it would have been nice to keep the SD card slot, and maybe the HDMI slot as well.
If your answer would probably be YES, it doesn't really matter what YOU want.
You will overpay for them cause you like them, and Apple will continue to use that against you and continue to bump the prices.

VizionWorksEditing 4K wouldn’t be much use on a 13” screen. The pixel density would be too high and the power would be wasted. 1440p would be more realistic but I feel 1080p would be good enough.
@@SomeNot For all intent and purposes, I don't think a 1080p screen would be good about for what most people use it for which is mainly to browse the web and still have a "retina like" super high dpi experience.

I have lots of friends who got tired of the Macbooks and iPhones, and they want something as slim, light and good in the Windows domain. So some slim Windows laptop reviews would be great! :D
Vincent De La Rosée Surface is actually head to head competing with iPad Pro and new Google Pixel Slate. From my perspective, it all depends from what are your needs. Apple is really well made, great screen, speakers and bunch of apps, but it’s missing really important features for a main device. That’s where Surface smashes it. And Pixel Slate seems as a failure pretty much for now...
