Now you have an insight as to what us Kiwis have to put up with living here with the ridiculous high prices for everything. This is a recent thing, NZ wasn't so crazy expensive in the past.
Oossh you are right that is also a very pricy country. You have to learn where to spend and where to save in NZ luckily it is doable on a budget if you don't really do any big activities but we were very happy to make the most of the free nature spots.
Yeah I totally get that. I bet people have traveled more of the U.K. than we have because it’s our home. New Zealand was a great road trip destination though we loved it!
Rotorua is on that fault line that lies on the Pacific plate also called the ring of fire. But thankfully you guys are closer to the Antarctic with its cooler temperatures.
Yes and a local women was telling us Rotorua kind of floats with all the geothermal activity so if there is an earthquake it can take the impact as it floats above the ground.
I went to New Zealand in 2017 and 2020 (managed to leave the country 2 days before it closed) and was planning to resume my 2020 trip next year in February, but was surprised to see how much everything, cost double now compared to 2020. Car renting is more then double compared to 2020, and hostel accomodation price it's almost double.
@@WeAreDestinationDetour in 2020 a private room at the YHA hostel would cost around 90-120NZD, now the same room is 230NZD, dorm room are now 60-65NZD, they were 30-35NZD. In 2020 I rented 3 different cars, a 2017 Toyota Yaris was around 50NZD per day with maximum cover, now it's around 100NZD. Because of these prices I'm considering not going again next, I already went 2 times, spent 8 weeks in total, might have to wait a few more years. And if you stay 1 month and only rent a car for 2 weeks for the South Island, you would still pay at least 4000 NZD only on accommodation and the car. Also the extra activities were expensive back then, I can't imagine how much are now.
Wow!@@dincamarcel3691 Thanks for that, it really is expensive. Accommodation is always the biggest expense when travelling. We were so lucky that the van we used was my brothers so we could borrow it for free. I was surprised that Diesel wasn't too expensive and we tried to save money by not eating or drinking out as it can add up really quickly. If we had to rent a van I don't think we would have been able to do the trip.
There's plenty to do that does not cost money. If your sole focus is the cost of everything, then you won't enjoy anything you do. GBP to NZD already gives you an advantage locals don't get. Focus on enjoying yourself instead
You should totally do it, it was such a great location for a road trip! I know me neither it was a game changer this cous cous is seriously amazing! Haha
Enjoyed watching your new adventure through New Zealand. Not gonna lie though, I keep expecting Jack to shoot out some Mandarin at some point. Haha..Takes time for us to get used to watching as well. 😅
Duh, course it is,its at the bottom of the world, can't just snap ya finger's an $? Arrives Guess that's why we Kiwi's are chilled,we don't complain,we know,it is what it is,moaning, ain't going to make it cheaper,as we say, Go hard,or go home 😅
Well, within the first 1.30 of watching this and listening to your man whine about everything, I suggest the next van trip you make, anywhere.....you leave him behind. Too much of a vibe killer...

Don’t travel to Switzerland if you think NZ is expensive haha. Just got to make the most of the free walks, views, pies, it’s not too bad.

Really trippy when I see people travel my home country!!!

Complains about the prices … 1st stop Macca’s 😂😂😂
We actually didn't find it to be that expensive there. It is cheaper than in some McDonald's we've been to around the world.

Ww love no matter the cost
It was so beautiful you just have to be savvy with your money! Luckily most of the views are free and that’s amazing!
I love the Redwood Forest! ❤❤❤ enjoy and safe travels as always, Nico and Jack! 😊

Thanks for the support! Unfortunately my mandarin is very rusty these days, hard to practice when outside of China. Jack
Haha yeah it was very strange to travel around a country and be able to speak English to everyone.
It's expensive but it is the best way to see this country in a van the best things in NZ are free if you no where to look
Awesome 👍
Thanks 🤗
Everything is at a cost here. Isolation can do that.
Yeah I totally agree! It’s such a wonderful place but it really is so far from everything.
New Zealand can be expensive we are so happy we were able to find some great things to do within our budget. Leave your money saving tips below!
