The whole "Freudian" song is a duality. The first half of the song has a bittersweet farewell tone which Daniel is reminiscing on his relationship with his partner and how thankful he is for saving his life, and saying that he had to let her go and won't forget everything they've been through. Then the interlude commentary in the middle is him not knowing how to explain to his mother that he hasn't changed and how he lost his faith(his family is religious) and that goes into a pause in the song which resembles the period in time when he felt so alone and desperate in a time where he felt his world crashing down. Then the second half comes into a somber tone with him repeating "isn't it nice, human sacrifice" which is irony for how toxic his relationship was he felt he was sacrificing his life. The whole end is him feeling pity for himself at the end of his relationships. The duality of the song is it could be about a girl that he was in a relationship with(he wrote all the songs about the same girl) and how toxic it was, the other side is his relationship with religion/faith and how toxic it made him. This song along with the whole album demonstrates how great Daniel is at expressing his feelings and putting you into his mind.

Word, i kind of see the second half of the song as him reflecting back on this whole relationship and seeing the beauty of it. The same way in which Sigmund Freud used himself as reference to his studies, Daniel is being brutally honest about himself. This album i feel embodies the complex emotions we all go through within a relationship. One second you want to worship your partner, next second you want to leave them. you want them back, but know that it will only do you harm so you are only thankful of the lesson they taught you. This album really has a good message on us just being honest with ourselves and not to let the sad and empty feeling linger for too long but not to ignore them either.

The song is about an unnresolved "oedipus complex" maybe. The title of the song is "freudian" and he's singing bout his mama and core shame which brings him to behave in an infantile manner with the women around him. His heart is broken bc he is older now and there is distance between him and his mother. They aren't as close anymore, not as enmeshed. He feels anxiety when a woman who he's in a relationship with doesn't sooth his broken heart. So he tries to dictate her actions and control her, treating her as an object. As a man he can use his pubescent masculine influence and dominance to get what he wants but as he says himself, this is just surface, underneath he is still a boy who's in love with his mother. Kudos to him for being so forbearing. Its some really deep deep down honesty that I'm almost shocked to see.

I agree I also think it plays on his religious path too, he is associating religion with his mother and how he chose freedom over religion and thus his mother.
I wish the studio version had that background voice of his during the first verse. Would have made the track even more magical.

i love the symbolism in this video, its pure art. at the end his running along with those women giving them orders not really giving them credit for the work they are putting in, then the girl in the front stops and starts going off on him knocking him off his high horse because she will not be taken for granted. it shows the struggle of love, those women are from his past but if you notice the one who goes off on him is the one he holds the closest. i relate to this because ive had alot of women in my past who stood by me and ran with me but i took them for granted, then my last ex came along and changed everything. Freudian is the most beautiful album I've heard this year and I swear, every time I hear it, it gets better. I didn't know what to expect from this visual but, it went above and beyond anything I could have imagined. I can't wait to see he does next.
