I just replaced my K240s with a pair of Sony MDR CD900STs, which are made in Japan by the music branch of Sony. My impressions are that they're more detailed and less dynamic than the K240s. Listening to music through them is less enjoyable. At higher volume, electric guitar based music can sound harsh and piercing compared to the K240s at the same levels. Female vocals sound really good, and they're great for lectures and interviews. There's been a lot of people who say the Yaxi pads improve the Sony headphones, so I'll probably try those. I really like the k240s but I'm not impressed with the build quality. They only lasted a couple years before one of the drivers went out, and the stock pads fell apart pretty fast. I could never get the size adjuster to stay in place. I've heard the original Austrian made versions are supposed to be much better all around. To me, headphones are basically a consumable, so I've got a real phobia about going much above this price point.

Heavy coiled cable on Sony is a no go. Removable cable on the AKG makes them a no brainer, especially with a Mogami 4' replacement cable.

There are pros and cons for both headphones. I still use the Sony when recording and mixing audio for film and TV on location.

I just mod any headphones eventually to accept a 3.5mm cable :D

The Sony MDR 7506 and AKG ones are the only ones currently in my inventory. So, that's why I tested those headphones specifically 👍

If the beats you're making are for trap music, then I would invest into closed headphones with a frequency range boosting the low and high frequencies. This will make it easy for your ears to identify the bass kicks and snares.

So am looking for a mixing headphone, even if not the popular ones, it all came down to hd 650 or 600 but they a little ugly for me, and high impedance, plus they say its weak with the low frequencies, and even shy with the high as well, this can tempt you to mix and not notice sibilance quick enough since its laid back, but somehow people say it came down from heaven, ie the best, the king of mids, and neutral, but for mixing its not just neutral sometime you need certain frequency more in order to see better what you doing as you edit or mix, its crazy world where no one seems to make a headphone with all the major three frequency as good as possible for mastering without all those eq correcting software.
What a world, companies denying the world what is needed, each headphone all have their issues even the utopia, or lcd 5 and name them all have flaws in their frequency response and what a shame.
so maybe there is secret gem there no known that could fit what am looking for, I also hate following everyone, because sometimes they be wrong, but there is nothing better than HD 600 or 600 then I dont know

Thank you for sharing your opinion on today's headphones and your interest in the Sony HD 600 and 650. One practice I've started doing is listening to my mix with 2 different headphones. One pair that reveals the lower/mid range of frequencies more presently, and then another pair for listening in to the higher frequencies while also paying attention to the lower end.

@@jeffreyhackmedia The HD600 and HD650 headphones referred to are from Sennheiser, not Sony. They are very popular and the HD600 in particular are considered by many to be the pinnacle of 'reference' headphones made for mixing/mastering.
