    How encouraging it is to watch the young and the 'young at heart' engage in a common interest Jonathon is eager for all the 'right things' and will find his peace. What talent to behold from both of you. I thank you most kindly for this vid and the steady /talented hand of Catherine. My how that bird-a-roasting on an open fire, made my mouth water. Methinks U keep it fresh in your mind and it gives the impetus for a successful shoot. Very nice! I have a couple of masonry tips for your next project! When laying stone or brick, the sides of the stone or brick that are going to be butted against each other need to be "buttered". This means the stone that has been set needs mortar on its side and the stone that is being placed, if possible, needs mortar on the side. When placed there should be mortar squeezing out of the joints. Also, the bed of mortar should be uneven, when i set mortar I run the tip of the trowel through the middle of the mortar to make a kind of trough, it helps the mortar grip the stone. Finally, laying more mortar than needed is what is needed! Mortar should be oozing from the joints! Loved this project, im gonna subscribe!

    • @TheWoodlandEscape
      @TheWoodlandEscape  Рік тому +1

      I certainly could have used you on this project. I try to butter the ends but using pre mixed mortar have trouble with it sticking. On our cabin chimney we mixed our own with sand and buttering the rock worked very well. We appreciate your interest.

    Selecting likely rocks is one thing: perhaps numbering them after a dry fit could be another?😊

    As informative as ever! I am guessing that by "leaning" the rocks forward some it also made it easier to remove the form? I would think a couple of smacks on the front would push it back enough it could be lifted out?

    The only way you learn how to do something is to do it. Schools just give you the knowledge but not the experience, which you only learn by making mistakes.

    Peter, either his box top is not level or your logs are out of level. Don't know which! Or, the box is not sitting level on the floor. I expect it's the latter as I have faith in your building!
