Songs like this remind me of childhood. My sister and I would be in bed for the night and hear this come on. Both mom and dad were home and all was right in our world. Days long gone.
This is my exact history with this theme also. My brother and I going to bed and this comes on from downstairs. The nostalgia is strong with this one. Earlier on in the 80s it was Dallas but somehow it doesnt hold as special a place in my heart.
@LavRose77 That's EXACTLY how I remember this intro, during the night when I was supposed to be in bed. LA Law, Dynasty, Moonlighting and Dallas all meant it was late night and I only heard it walking to and back from the bathroom. 😂
In just about 90 seconds, Mike Post musically made being a lawyer sound like the highest calling you can work towards - with a bit of sassy sax thrown in.
Loved watching la law with my mum back in the 80s. We were the only ones that watched it . The rest of the family weren't bothered but we loved . The memories . This is why UA-cam rules.
Yes INDEED Hill Street Blues, L.A. LAW, Doogie Howser, M.D., Capitol Critters, NYPD Blue, Brooklyn South, Murder One Steven Bochco was a masterpiece in television God Bless His Soul
Isn’t it funny how as little kids we watched this adult show and loved it? I cant imagine kids today watching a show like this or any show not made for kids with a full cast of kids only.
A theme show can at times make or break a show. Therefore it is important to have a grand and epic yet insanely catchy theme tune that evokes positive and great emotions within the audience. This theme alone got me into the show so it worked. I'm not in Law career wise but I find this theme and opening scenes to be very motivating for me in my own professional settings.
I was looking for the Law and Order intro but typed LA Law. I don't know why and I don't regret it for one second. That beat, the brass and strings and BOOM, if that sax ain't pure sex. Put a smile on my face thats for sure, thank you.
The intro sequence is longer than most television shows total runtime today! I hate that television has since effectively gotten rid of opening credits.
Because shows have more commercials now. Up until the 90's, 1 hour= 45 to 48 minutes without commercials. Today, it's about 42 minutes. Credits scenes are shorter to lessen the cut into the actual show. However, many streaming shows, like Stranger Things, Jack Ryan, Wednesday etc. have longer more atmospheric credit sequences since they don't have to deal with commercial and traditionnal broacasting time.
Not only were the shows I watched back then more interesting than the shows of today, even the shows I DIDN'T watch made major impressions on me. I never watched LA Law, but boy do I know this theme. Same with other themes like Falcon Crest, Knots Landing, Dynasty, Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere, and Murder, She Wrote. I wasn't into those shows, but I still knew the themes. And that's not even getting into the 60s and 70s sitcoms that everybody can sing the themes from, like Gilligan's Island, Happy Days, Three's Company, Welcome Back Kotter or the Brady Bunch. What a difference from today, when I know neither programs nor the themes. Just decided to try the new Quantum Leap and really missed Mike's classic theme. Seems nobody knows how to write TV music anymore. Long form intros are a lost art. Even something like Picard, which has a full-length intro, has such a weak, unmemorable theme song.
This show made me want to be a lawyer as a kid. I imagined my entire life complete with an L.A. apartment with a view, an orange and white cat named Romeo, coming home at night kicking off my heels and pouring a glass of wine. Lol, I also used to lie and say my real mother was Jill Eikenberry. I never became a lawyer but I did meet Jill Eikenberry 😂
@grogtgs In NYC. She was in a theater show and I waited and talked to her after. I told her I used to tell people she was my *real* mom when I was little and she told me she had a daughter named Alison (which is my name) and we laughed. 😂
Do you all remember the episode where Arnie’s Bentley gets rear ended in the first scene and the LA LAW license plate falls off in the opening credits? Loved that one time little change. 😆
I’ve always wanted to thank you for so eloquently describing that twilight building shot you referenced! It actually gives me goosebumps butterflies and I’m not entirely sure why! You captured my childhood memories perfectly. Thank you! X
This brings a taste of good TV in the 80s when I had something to look forward for entertainment & relaxation after a taxing day on the job. I've always love the music of the opening theme and the stars were young, good looking and great actors with fantastic writers!...ahhh, those were the days!♥💛💜
Mmmmm, I have to agree with you, this show was awesome, but it was actually only my first and official entrance to this legal themed kind of shows and movies. As I recall it, sometime before the end of this series, "A Few Good Men" came out, then The Firm, of course, Law and Order, both SVU and Criminal Intent, and right now "kind of legal, but not really so very legal" Suits. They're all great in my opinion.
How this brings back memories. We had limited international programming to watch on TV in South Africa during the mid 80's.But ye LA Law was there.Along with Magnum,A-Team and lets not forget Airwolf.Memories.......
Love this theme and brings back so much memories..The 80’s was very big into the cast walking through corridors or into rooms talking to each other in the show’s intros,L.A Law being the best at this..Though copying other cast walking in discussion intro’s like Cagney and Lacey and Hill Street Blues..L.A Law..A great show and wonderful intro.!
Yes that's LA LAW. Beautiful people working in big glittering skyscrapers, Walking through doors, looking important, ladies with enormous hairdos and shoulder pads, guys in big suits. The sex, the drama, the music! Unfortunately here in England we had to make do with Rumpole of the Bailey.
This was the 1980’s some Big Law firms made lots of money in that decade especially in big urban areas like LA. Big corporate lawyers did dress glitzy back then and their offices could definitely have been located in big skyscraper buildings. It’s realistic
Don’t know why this popped up in my feed for no apparent reason, but I think it’s hilarious that the theme is a full minute of various characters accosting each other in hallways before the actor introductions actually begin.
L.A. LAW from the Creator of Hill Street Blues, Doogie Howser, M.D., NYPD Blue and Capital Critters God Bless the Soul of Steven Bochco and Thank You for makin' this series MUST SEE TV
The nostalgia of an 80s saxophone and synthesizer coupled with a good drama and opening song/credits man, a whole package. Mash is another good theme that invokes the emotion of the show immediately
I watched this series religiously....believe me! I loved the characters, the storylines, the outfits that the women wore....everything!! I understand that Bocho is getting ready to reboot this and that Corbin Bernsen is already 'onboard', another actor is too, but can't remember the name. Richard Dysart and Larry Drake have both died, sadly to say. Several of the actors went onto other things, which is good.
The current generation of TV viewers (ie. the reality TV show fanatics with their dumbed down view of life and the universe) practically guarantees that quality shows (the LA Laws, Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewheres, Cheers, Tour of Duty, Lou Grant) will probably never be produced again. When you think about the effort that went into making these shows versus what's airing now, how did the viewer IQ (and intelligence) drop so low over the last 30 odd years?🤔🤔🤔
I remember this back in the early 90s, on Thames Television after News At Ten, it's all I actually remember about the show as this theme usually meant bed time back then 😂
My favourite '80's TV series, much more than Miami Vice. Corbin Bernsen, Jimmy Smits and Jill Eikenberry were superb. Also applause for Larry Drake and Richard Dysart.
Back in the good old days of the 80s. TV was of a much higher quality and the theme tune was much a part of the programme itself. Also programmes were not rushed like they are today
Before we decided to get rid of cable TV, I remember watching a few episodes of a reality series (around 2008/2010(?)) called Dog: The Bounty Hunter. If I remember correctly, the opening sequence(s) showed Dog (Duane) Chapman and I don't remember what kind of music was used (that is, if they ever had any). I definitely do recall that there was absolutely NOTHING in the way of opening credits (like LA Law style) and the entire time span from start to finish couldn't have been more than 30 seconds. I don't watch ANY of these reality shows nowadays and I wouldn't be surprised if the opening sequence(s) for the Kardashians/Pawn Stars/Storage Wars/Honey Boo Boo/etc. is maybe 15 seconds (if that).🤔🤔🤔
I so much relate to your comment!! I wanted to be like Jill Eikenberry and Michele Greene's characters when I'd grow up!! I was never really able to decide which one of those two empowered female lawyers I wanted to be like, so maybe an awesome combination of the best of both. Can you imagine that? Omg, that would be amazing, wouldn't it? So, am I a lawyer? Definitely not! I'm a teacher, but still watching each and every legal movie and show ever produced after this one.

Being able to find a random TV intro from my childhood such as this, is the reason why I thank god for UA-cam.....
😹😹😹 #GoSwannies!😄
Say it again!
Loved this one in my childhood too
Totally agree

Russell Crawley yes me too
I loved this programme as well, great to see this short clip, happy times.
I so miss the 80s.
Dont we all 😥👌
Can't beat the 80s when it came to good programming, and iconic soundtracks
This theme is EVERYTHING. Man the 1980’s were epic in almost every way.
Great TV, music, movies and fashion

Mike Post....the very best
@@bradlafferty6076 that sassy sax is david sanborn
I always fantasized about writing TV Themes. Not being Jimmy Page or Billie Joel but being Dave Grusin, Mike Post, or Bill Conti
The sassy sax meaning sexual harassment in the workplace will be rife at this time.
Where would 80’s T.V be if it wasn’t for Mike Post.!
This was the music I went to bed to as a kid. Memories.
same
Great comment. And me too..
Generation X'ers step forward!
arcengal Me too! First time i've heard it since those days as well. The nostalgia actually made my stomach churn for a second lol

Intro music is a TV masterpiece!
The music is, but the intro is about a minute ten too long!
One of the all-time BEST tv show theme songs ever done!!! ❤
I totally agree.
Its OK but what about Dallas?
@@joeyg370 Dallas was one of my favorite shows growing up. The theme song though? Meh...It was Ok. 🤷🏽♀️

If you were born in 1981 this was the theme tune to your bedtime
78 here but same still.
Brings me back to the 1980s. How I wish we could go back.
Loved this TV Show! R.I.P. Steven Bochco - creator of L.A. Law and kudos to all the great actors and actresses who starred. Good Times, Good Times!
Fun fact: Each year the show was on, the year sticker on the license plate changed. This particular intro was from 1988.
Didn’t know that, a fact I will now retain and impress someone with one day. 👍
