  • Hey everyone, in this video I make a "roughing reamer" out of a #3 Tapered Pin Reamer, and share the great buy I had on eBay that led to this episode. Thanks for joining me here on Knolltop Farms...Aloha.

that's a sweet haul of reamers. As far as I know taper pins were used for what we use roll pins for today.

Hi Chuck! I'm finally getting a chance to catch up on some videos and this looks like a pretty neat project. I've never actually heard of a roughing reamer before. Looking forward to the series (binge watching them now).
    Best wishes, sir.

good to see you back in the shop, if the offer still stands i could use a set of reamers, I don't even have a full set at work! I have a number of morse taper shank drills I purchased and some multiples (all used) I'd be happy to send a few back your way in return. your also welcome to visit if you get down near pomona.

Cool, thanks Captain G! My email is erleecotton at yahoo dot com, send me your mailing address and I'll send you a set. I've only got No.s 2 thru 5 left, but the #1's are tiny, but if you do need a one for a specific job I'll happily send you mine, since I have 0 jobs for a one yet. It would be silly to give the last one of my 1s away and have to buy one number 1 again! "tell me, have you seen who?" LOL! I feel like a Laurel and Hardy skit :)

Interesting. I only have some larger roughing reamer/finishing reamer sets for Morse taper. I never measured them to see if the roughing reamer was the same size as the finishing reamer. I guess with the taper it wouldn't matter.
We'll see how it works in part 2!

It's pretty interesting how the chips build in the flutes, and once you get all of the "steps" out of the hole you've drilled it is pretty tough to turn with a little T-handle, but any more pressure would create a "snap!" ;) part 2 coming tonight

Hey Chuck, nice to see another vid from you. I don't need the reamers, but it would be something I don't have. How much for a set of 1 of each of what you have?

Hey Steve, I will set you up no problem and won't want anything but postage. I'll email you when I get a tally of what goes where and we can work it out...sound fair? Part 2 coming tonight...Aloha bro, Chuck.

That was pretty slick making that roughing reamer. Now you got me on the hook waiting for #2. My old Atlas lathe has tapered pins but they look smaller than the #1, are they sized like welding tips 0, 00, 000, etc.?

    • @KnolltopFarms
      @KnolltopFarms  7 років тому

Thanks brother, I got the idea from seeing the roughing reamers for Morse tapers, and it worked pretty well. They do have sizes smaller and if I understand correctly the double ought "00" is the smallest, and it must be tiny to be smaller than the #1's, LOL! Part 2 will be out tonight :)

    hi Chuck,
just want to let you know I am watching you from the Netherlands. No need to send me any reamers, but thanks for the offer ;-)
I am curious how this is going to work though!
    thanks,
    Peter

It's working well, and you'll see in part 2 tonight...I love Holland, and was there in the Summer of '96! I am 1/4th Dutch on my Father's side, and was told by a Dutch couple in Bali that my last name means "man of the water"...or the husband actually said it meant "Wet Man", LOL, luckily his wife made it better with the man of the water title ;)

Id be beside myself with a couple reamers, I want to convert the tail stock on my little 109 lathe from mt0 to mt2 or 3 if there's enough material, it's so hard to find mt0 shank stuff...

Thanks Man! Oddly enough I didn't even realize they were tapered when I bought them, but it was still an awesome deal. Part 2 coming tonight.

Certainly, just let me check who asked first and how many I will save and I will get back to you. There should be no problem with any except the #1's as I only have 5 and will likely keep 2 or 3. Talk to you really soon, Aloha...Chuck

Thanks Bruce, I've always wanted to go there, especially after having not been able to make it there on my visit to Europe in '96. Sadly, I couldn't afford it because the UK(excepting Scotland) didn't honor my Eurail Pass, which was my only form of transport...next time I will first visit the islands before going to the continent.
