I could listen to him speak for hours, he was so brilliant. I'll bet you didn't know... he had flaming red hair. Couldn't tell from all these old B&W clips from the 60s ;)
What a horrible interviewer. There's plenty of sick humor out there that never became great. What Tom Lehrer did was to add an intellectual, lilting temperament to dark topics, and do it well. That makes him a genius, not a sicko.
The interviewer seems oblivious to the fact that almost ALL British humor has a kind of creepy-cutesy sickness about it that people from other nations cannot tolerate.

In the Dodge commercial, that picks up red, you can see that he doesn't have red hair.
This is an incredible clip. I've never seen a video of Tom Lehrer from back in the day.
He should be answering Hugh Grant's interviews.
'Which escapes the academic mind'🤣 brilliant
Escapes the Non-Academic Minds..
It still escapes them to this day. Some people think he's a legitimate professor.
Why has no one left a comment yet?

its a descriptive term
64 years ago, my man. Cultural values were much different in those days. Hell, in the US of today, someone like Lehrer would probably be widely hated!
The meaning of the word "sick" back then is different from what it is today. "Sick" simply meant edgy humor that tended to ridicule societal norms.
