Thank you for the review. But, so many words just to say that one lid is a poor design and recommending the other one? BTW, I expected a report on the filtered water quality and potential accumulation of microbes in the filter.
I suspect the reason the filter works on time rather than just volume is the simple fact that the filter does not kill any bacteria in the water. Which means they can build up in the filter. I tend to change the filter when the water taste changes rather than by time. Generally, about every 3 months.
do you add minerals back into your filtered water? And do you find it much better than drinking tap water? main reason for me is i would like to remove most of the fluoride
@@multitablez7825 No I do not add any minerals back into the water. The water taste is a lot better after filtering. The water where I live has quite high chlorination and horrible to drink from the tap. The Britta filter improves the taste greatly. I do not know about the fluoride removal. My location does not fluorinate the water.
@@DarrylTalksyou don’t mention how long it takes for the filter to filter the water? 1 minute,5 minutes? Would be useful. Looking to buy one. The mirella one. Thanks
@@caseydowning2741 Good point, one or two minutes. But it slows down as it goes. You can get a glass of water out of it after about 30 seconds or so. I changed to a different brand, and it was much slower, I would consider the new brand to be slow, and sometimes it stops. The Brita filter is good for time, I would say.
I've had no problem with Aluna breaking and I'm impatient and ruff. I don't use the lid as I don't like storing water in plastic due to nano plastics. I just run the water through and pour it straight into glass jugs for storage. I just returned Marella because I couldn't pull it to bits without a struggle. I don't think plastic should be kept for more than a year due to deterioration and nanoplastics defeating the whole purpose.
I think the reason why the filter is good for a number of weeks instead of refills has to do with health. The water stays inside the filter and this can cause bacteria to build up, eventually doing more harm than good.
Thanks for this! Was just trying to figure out why the Aluna was 10€ higher than the Marella, and came across this video. Not sure why the cost difference is there but going to save some immediate money and hopefully some long term money (if the jug doesn't break as often) and go with the Marella.
Yours lasted longer than mine. I only got 3 months out of mine. I will go look for Marella and hope it will last longer than 3 months. They certainly aren't cheap. Water is full of lime here and undrinkable at times.
The marella also has the same issue due to faulty design. The inner funnel is leaning on 2 tiny pins positioned in the inner side of the jug itself. Once the pins are eroded , the funnel falls inside the jug.
The reason it maybe breaking all the time because you are inadvertently jamming in the top section in the wrong way round, thus producing the cracks and subquential breakage.... if you look at the back of the top section there is inverted square that should line up to another inverted dip located at the top end of the jug behind the handle ... Always putting it in this way should prevent any possible damage...
There is a groove or recess around the top edge that the top water funnel fits into, but the recess is insufficient to always hold the funnel well. It occasionally slips down and jams, like you say, even if the part is the right way round.
I only need them to filter out limescale for my espresso machine and the timer tells me i should change the filter way too early. In the end I probably will use it as an indicator to change the filter a month later.
Extra feedback about Brita Aluna jug - inner holder where filter is placed has tiny part that is unwashable (cannot remove) so particles stay there and algae flourish. All pieces in water filter jug must be washable - but here it is not!
Yeah, because I broke two of them, and I still bought another one. It's madness. I am sure if you want better water quality for sure buy something else, I am sure everyone forgets to change the filter from time to time.
Really? I've just sent off (to Brita) for a replacement timer for the lid... When I filled out the form on the Brita site, I saw I'd registered it in 2018. Maybe you're just heavy-handed!
The lid is issue is not a big deal. It takes a second. My issue with this one is that the water runs through a tiny section that u can't open to clean so I have green mildew in it and I'm looking how I can clean it. Any ideas let me know
Hello from Auckland and thank u for this video. It was very thorough n helpful. Just in time as i was considering buying a filter jug 😇. I drink about 2.5l of water a day so roughly might take me two months to reach that recommended 150l for the filter change. I guess since it counts in weeks, I’ll just reset it twice?
I don’t know which product line of Brita decanter I have, but cracking was an issue in the past - my only complaint now is the filter timer/ monitor always stops working, so my partner and I are always trying to remember when we last changed the filter!
@@DarrylTalks that is funny. Quirky little things. Funny, our new fridge has a filter for the water dispenser and we still use the Brita. Old habits die hard. Love your videos.
@@DavidAllen-hr8yd good idea. I may write to Brita just to see how they respond! Although, I have now started to use the water dispenser in my kind of new fridge.
Thanks, Selwyn council just put chlorine in our once beautiful drinking water and now everything tastes disgusting. Going to give these a try to see if it helps. Pretty sure whoever thought up the new rules has shares in Brita. PS nice presentation but you don't need to repeat yourself that much.
Omg the Luna one really a trouble, I don’t even know they have products which have to be opened up to refill😂they began to sell water filter jug like 10 years ago, but they are still producing inferior product like Luna, really don’t understand…
I know, it is pretty bad, and you only save $1 when you buy it. There is a larger model, I forget the name, it has a dark blue lid, it comes with three filter elements in the box. That one is almost worth the price for the filter elements.
I bought Aluna yesterday. Had couple Marellas before. When I tried fill it with water, saw no flip lid and thought must be not understanding new design. So it HAS no flip lid?! What shitty design. Getting refund!

The marella also has the same issue due to faulty design.

If the timer stops working contact Brita and they will arrange a replacement. I assume this happens in NZ as certainly does in overseas markets.

what the hell are they using chlorine for? they could use chlorine dioxid3, which is better than chlorine and isnt toxic.
