I remember this tornado well. The cowboys were playing in Arlington and no one ever knew there was a tornado just a few miles away, not only was it never mentioned but they kept the game on!
I remember it as well. Not because I lived in the exact area, but it turned one of the buildings I worked in into a concrete slab when it was all said and done.
They're still rebuilding my neighborhood Preston Hollows 💔 Right before my birthday. Couldn't get anywhere via walking, bus, nor car. My bf flew me to Mississippi as everything was gone, shortly after. Born and raised in North Dallas, and my neighborhood was gone.
Good storm chasers get massive respect by me. Even though I was born and have lived in Tornado Alley my entire life, severe weather always gets me severe anxiety. The fact that these folks literally chase and put themselves in danger to get a thrill and/or inform the public is admirable.
I remember this, we came in from New Mexico and during the game they advised us to REMAIN INDOORS. If you were outside they let you inside of AT&T stadium with your bags regardless of bag policy. We then drove to the aftermath of the tornado and our hotel was pitch black. We had to walk 9 flights of stairs to get to our room. Only to hear the wind speeds pick up and we made our way back down and slept in the hotel lobby. Needless to say I didn’t sleep and kept watch while my family slept.
Living mere blocks from Preston and royal, I was very disappointed in how this setup was downplayed by meteorologist Jesse Hawila on WFAA that morning. A lot of people I’m sure let their guard down with his broadcast that morning, making it seem like there was no tornado threat whatsoever.
I’ll never forget this night. I was leaving work at Love field airport, heading north and there were headlights coming at me on the highway (ppl driving away from tornado). I quickly reversed my car but there was no where to go without crashing into other cars. I didn’t know what was going on but I felt The wind was extremely strong and I couldn’t stop looking out of my sunroof at the debris. Once the wind stopped and I started to drive, the pile up cars was how I knew it was a tornado. It took me 3 hours to get home that night which usually takes 25 minutes. SIDENOTE: my daughter and I watched the movie Twister the next morning 😂 she was 4 at the time and understand why I was so freaked out lol
same here. I was working at a restaurant that was in preston royal when the tornado hit. Just before the wind picked up, I was parked right in the middle of the parking lot and asked my boss if I could bring my umbrella since it looked like there was gonna be a downpour. Ended up driving my car to the toy maven store and turned off my car just when the rain came down in torrents. I made it back to the restaurant just in time when the wind suddenly picked up fast. Customers who were outside waiting for the rain to stop quickly came back inside. I remember me and my coworker literally fought against the wind to close the door and lock it tight. By the time the tornado passed, I went home and Royal lane was literally blocked. There were debris everywhere and I had to take another route home. I"ll never forget that night. And the weirdest part was people weren't even worried. there were still customers calmly eating at their table.
I remember watching this really closely. I was in highschool, had really severe anxiety about tornadoes at the time. I had family near that area and begged my mom to call them to warn them and make sure they were ok. The tornado barely missed them, across the street there were power lines down and pretty bad damage
Good documentary. I'm glad nobody got seriously hurt in this, especially being on the highway. I watched this from Breckenridge Park, till it approached our neighborhood. Then watched from our front porch. The radar couplet passed about 4 miles to our south.
Many of my friends lost their homes, it lightly damaged my high school and was a mere mile away from the house I lived in at the time in Richardson. Absolutely terrifying.
I’ll never forget that night, I remember getting a tornado warning ⚠️ on my phone next thing I found out a very well busy area was hit, it happened so quick! Next day I went to see the area it was unreal!
I've only been in 3 🌪's. One hit my house and didn't even lift the recycling bin or the trash bin. The other 2. I was camping 🏕 in the country. One 🌪 hit us when we were in Arkansas. It didn't damage my ⛺️, however, it flooded my tent 1' deep with cold water. The 2nd time that I got hit by a🌪was, again, when I was camping 🏕 in the county area. It swirled my tent in circles and my dome light smacked me in the head as there was no 🌪 siren and I was diving for cover under my cot. I had it anchored with high wind anchors times 2. Other campers tents ⛺️ were thrown far away. Always get storm anchors for your ⛺️ and get a dome tent. Only the square ones got lifted up off of the ground. 🙏🏾🙏🏽🙏🙏🙏🏿
Yeah I remember this day. It was the day after my birthday and I was traveling to El Paso, TX earlier that day for an event. I made a pit stop in a place called Kent Mountain and when I opened the door to my car the winds were so strong blowing east that I thought I was about to lose my door. Later that day my wife at the time told me that the tornado sirens were going off and at first I wasn't too concerned but I was concerned because we get a lot of false alarms but I told her take cover and call me when the sirens are off. 30mins later I get a from my brother who lived in Houston at the time he called to see if we was okay because the EF3 had went through town. I immediately called my wife to check on her and thank God she was nowhere near the storm. A couple of days later I drove by the damage site and for the first time in my life I've seen major damage from a tornado up close. Well that and the damage to the apartments on 12/26/15 when the EF4 hit Rowlett. Now that I'm a truck driver I check the weather religiously.
Your being smart check weather especially spring, just to add I was there in thise apartments passed few 100 ft without hitting our unit, I office wiped off one of our pools looked completely gone, around 200 cars damage.
The strongest tornado, the EF3, spawned directly south of my house at the time. While my house was not damaged, thankfully, we did find shingles in our front and backyard the next morning from an apartment complex a good distance away. I remember that night we took shelter and the rain was legit sideways. It was super scary. I remember after the tornado, we had to go help gather a friends friends stuff from her work as they were going to destroy the building as it had been hit pretty bad. (It was on Royal) I remember trying to go to the gym with some friends but they were closed because of the tornado as they had been directly hit. Nothing will make me forget that night and the following days. The best way to describe it was... It was like a war zone. Police were everywhere, streets were closed off. It was bad. It nearly directly hit my dads house, but thankfully the only damage he took was some roof damage and not a direct hit. Amazingly, nobody died that night. I'll never forget it.
I remember this day! Me and my sister lived right of the Greenville exit on 635! Right we’re it crossed over the high way! I remember I was driving back to my apartment during half time of the cowboys game! I was watching it with my fiancé in Irving! I remember the sky looking green and saying man this dose not look good! Better hurry my ass up and get home! About half way through my drive I heard the sirens and saw the power flashes as I watch it Cross over the over pass in dis belief! I remember trees and power lines where scattered over the street by my apartment and could only think the worst the my sister and dog were under a pile of rubble! Thankfully it just missed our complex and only suffered a couple broken windows….. scariest night of my life! 🌪
my cousins live in dallas, if they got hit by this i feel so bad. i was not there back in 2019, although i was there atleast last year or in 2020 for a week
ugh my parents were dumb asses and took us out the house . We lived in irving and went to an underpass somewhere towards dfw airport i remember it was so stupid and i was complaining but like what else could i have done.
i lived right near university park when this happened, i wasn’t able to go to school for 2 days, and due to me going to school in richardson, the school director told me to just “go around” the damage. lol i couldn’t even leave my block all the roads were closed, including the highway..
This tornado also hit us in Sachse at 190 and Pleasant Valley and destroyed our home and our best friends across the street, and our vehicles and business. A great travesty is as you stated, the new station did not cut in during the Cowboy game. The sirens went off three times. Only by God‘s grace we were all kept safe.
I remember this day in vivid detail- we were headed out to dinner with friends The Doppler called for storms but nothing super unusual to our cursory glance. Rain was light drizzle only weird thing was constant flashing lightning. We had just pulled into the parking lot at the restaurant and I had WILD intuition we had to go go go. I called for everyone to drive back home right away and for whatever reason everyone agreed. We would have been right in the direct path of tornado #1 an EF 3- it destroyed their school.
Turn those ISOs UP when you're filming at night! We and YOU can see that tornado WAY BETTER! Granted you'll have to look through a little screen but We all won't have to reply on power flashes to see it.
Sadly that's not how ISO on cameras work or even chase tornadoes You need light to illuminate anything you are shooting. Unless you spend 100K on a camera that allows your shutter to be wide open. Willing to pay us that, then sure!
I lived less than a mile from its path, and had gotten home from a long day of delivering pizzas, just finished dinner and was going to bed. heard the siren, and checked to see what was up, but by that time, the tornado had just passed me by, I barely remember anything because I was frantically calling my friend who lived in the direction it was going, my boss at work to make sure they had all their drivers in or home. I lived near the high five, so as I kept looking, I couldn't believe it had been on the ground so long without me knowing. maybe the panic of the night has distorted my memories, but I still can't believe it took so long for me to know anything was going on. even the next day, I was driving home in the dark, and two streets near my house weren't even closed off yet, despite trees down across the whole street. the whole thing felt like everyone who wasn't in and around its path were completely unaware, even after it happened. so thankful that no lives were lost
My house in Richardson was not touched. My house near KDAL was not touched. My house in Carrollton was not touched. 🙏🏿🙏🙏🏾🙏🏾 Like bugspay. I pray 🙏🏾 and God has spared me and my property from any damage even when I was IN one of my 🏘 when a 🌪hit it. No damage at all. 🙏🏾🙏🙏🏿🙏🏽
The Home Depot was completely destroyed off 75 in Dallas I was there at studio movie grill the next day watching a movie after we went to the Home Depot I took pictures of the Home Depot it was completely destroyed wow that night I was in our safe place in our apartment I live with my mom 👩🏻 I feel bad for all those people who lost everything in that tornado 🌪️ my mom told me that there were people in the Home Depot when that tornado hit everyone’s phones went off with warnings and the workers rushed everybody out the door before it hit one worker berrly made it out before it hit but I don’t think anyone Was hurt but the people on the highway 🛣️ wow I just can’t imagine how they were feeling
My house was hit by a large piece of flying debris and sustained damage to the vents and decking on the addition above the garage. I was picking up tiny bits of debris, including little pieces of taillights , insulation, shingles, etc for months.

And what happened after that because I live in east Texas
@@Butter_cupp-zx1dc my power went out for the night in Dallas
while I was watching the cowboys game early fourth quarter
So actually I think there was more than one tornado that night. And whatever happened to the footage from the guy that was on his balcony

Thanks for such great coverage. Can’t believe how local news failed to do more coverage until after the fact. Thank you!

Pretty sick and inhumane that a damn game took precedence on T.V. over an EF-3 tornado.
ppl don’t care they think it’s never going to happen to them.until it does.
