I assume with previous Civ games, they really couldn't because there was too much overlap when it comes to city names with the Aztecs and Mexico, same reason why we've gotten Rome every time but never Italy. But now with the civilization changing mechanic, this isn't as much of an issue.
As a Canadian, I remember how happy I was that we made it into Civ 6 for the first time in the franchise (even though Sid Meier is Canadian!), so I'm super happy for my Mexican friends who get to have their country present now!
As a non Mexican it makes you feel proud. Absolutely emotive and full of colour and vibrance. Much like the people and culture of Mexico. Great to see Mexico on Civ VII. ¡Viva México!🇲🇽
My grandmother passsed away the week this song came out. I am the first person in my dad's side in the family to be born in the USA. Everybody else was born in Mexico. My grandma always talked about how beautiful her pueblo was and her childhood stories. I can't help but a shed a tear of pride and joy when I hear this song. I have no doubt my grandma would have loved this song. It is almost as if her soul reincarnated into this song.

Not only am I excited for Mexico in civ, but I'm excited that I'm actually excited by modern era civs at all. It's so often the part of the game I just mentally check out of and I really look forward to Civ7 changing that
It's a combination of the game already being decided by the modern era and modern era combat being horrible in all the other civ games. Civ 7 addresses the first one, I just hope they address the combat too.

@@dirtpillow5073 I have logical reason why Philippines should appear as modern era Civ 7 tho. Civ 7 has new mechanic that is the change of civilization as the era goes forward. Civilization change does happened in real life tho and one of the example is the evolution of Indonesia. Indonesia in medieval era was called Majapahit and it has Hindu majority that speak Javanese. Hundred years later it converted to Islam and speak Malay (Bahasa Indonesia) and become Indonesia. Since I know the developer only gave two civilization from the same country only to the popular one (like China Ming and Han or India Gupta and Maurya) the chance they will create both Majapahit and Indonesia in this Civ 7 game is tiny, hence the next possible civ is the one who has somewhat close to Malay sphere South East Asian country that is the one and only PHILIPPINES
@@anggitaputri3123 I've seen the leaks and the modern Southeast Asian state they'll be using is Siam. Maybe in the DLC, Philippines will have a contending chance. But I noticed the devs don't really pay attention to it. Malacca Sultanate would be interesting tho and it has higher chances, imo.
God finally, if the US and Canada can be played in the franchise Mexico ought to join the others, it's historically important for both colonizers and Indigenous histories on every level of nuance for its entire existence as a political reality. And I'm 100% into it for the music too.
The big three and I'm all for it. The U.S. theme would stress the superiority of the foot over kilometers. Same with Canada but with maple syrup and fur hats.
This is, in my opinion, THE best theme so far. And excited to play as Mexico too. It’s great they added a long overdue Civ, and give a proper Civ to previous city states i.e. Cahokia & the Mississippians/Rapa Nui & Hawaii. Very stoked for the game overall, I think it’ll be a riot.

I have been waiting for Mexico to be included in a Civilization game since I started playing Civ 4 over 10 years ago. As a Mexican myself, this is a dream come true!! Thank you Firaxis 😄
I have been playing Civ since I was 14 years old. Back then having the Aztecs represented in the game was super cool. Then came the Mayans, which once again I loved. Fast forward to being 33 seeing my nation of birth will be on the game is just such a wholesome experience. Also, this musical arrangement of such a beloved piece of music yet still making it CIV is so well done. Can't wait to learn more about how Mexico will be represented in the game....and who the leader will be. My bet is on Benito Juarez leading Mexico.
No leader for Mexico with the way the game is designed. It appears that playing as Isabella of Spain unlocks the Mexican civilization in the modern era.

So the orchestrated themes are coming back for the final era, those were my fav for quite of a lot of the civs back in civ6 aka the industrial age. Again, didnt expect this one to go so hard.

This is, somehow, the first time modern Mexico has been in the Civilization series.
Probably first time they could have them without feeling like they overlapped too much with the Aztecs.
