Just a heads-up, the Amazon link goes to the version of the switch for 1 desktop and 1 laptop. Amazon doesn't appear to sell the 2 laptop version. That being said, the Anker link work goes to the 2 laptop model. Great video, Shane! This will really help me out.
Great setup and I bought the device based upon your review and instructions. What I don't like about it is that my MAC will only support a mirrored setup, not an extended screen setup and I see it's the same for you. How can I get around that?
@@carlitto94 The macbooks airs only supports 1 monitor until the m3. If you want to have 2 monitors in a mac air there's some workaround like buying and specific dongle hdmi with a specific driver
It seems you have connected two Thunderbolt devices to your KVM switch. However, how can I connect one Thunderbolt laptop and one old PC to achieve the same functionality?
I've used KVMs before with Windows PCs. Now I want to connect a MacBook Pro and a Windows PC to my KVM. I can get the monitor to work and switch between systems but I can't get the KVM to work with the Mac keyboard. Is there a specific brand/model of keyboard that I need to work with both Mac and PC ? Thanks!!
Hey I heard a different UA-camr having this same issue. He downloaded a program called Synergy which allows you to use your cursor on two separate pcs. In the UA-camrs case he was using a MacBook and windows and was able to use the same mouse seamlessly without having to manually switch it. The service costs a one time payment of 30 dollars check it out
I bought the Anker 553 hub last month. It worked great in giving me 2 extra monitors for a month. But this morning my laptop is not seeing the 2 external monitors. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the hub and I tried restarting the laptop with the hub connected. Neither resolved it. When I plug each monitor directly into the hdmi of the laptop they are immediately recognized. Any idea what else I can do to resolve this?
¿Is it posibble to have in one slot a windows device BUT, in another a console? in my setup i have to physically remove the usb hub that i use for my m and k when i want to play something on my pc or my xbox, a device like this would definitely save my life
but can you have the PC on 1 screen and the Mac on the other screen at the same time?? I'm going to assume the answer is no, since you didn't show or talk about this.. so it seems like you cleaned up your desk space nicely, but lost the ability to see both machines displayed at the same time through your previous set up.. i'm in search of the the functionality i described, so if anyone has any suggestions - let me know! I've found TESmart and it seems like they have options that can accomplish this - only problem is they have so many that I can't tell the difference/which one I would need.. and the support is less than ideal
how do i connect a desktop pc to a kvm switch? instead of 2 laptops? because my setup consists of one laptop and one pc and I would like to switch betweeen both like you did
That was really useful. I didn't know I could also share input devices like the mouse. I also have a Wacom tablet, Space Mouse and ShuttlePRO v2, so I guess I won't be sharing all of them via a KVM switch.
You can also create a KVM switch for your existing monitor. Every monitor from the past 10 years has a V switch and an USB hub. You can get a USB switch connected between your two pc's and monitor (as USB HUB to KM). I got mine from Aliexpress for 5 dollars, way better than this Anker business. You only have to press two buttons instead of one switching KVM :P

Has anyone worked out how to extend screen on Mac with this set up? I can only mirror and doesn't give me individual screen settings - set up 2019 MacBook Pro, 554 anker lvm, lg ultragear (dvi) Lenovo (hdmi)
I'm trying to figure out the same. I have a 2024 MBP that I use for work and a 2019 MBP as my personal laptop. Trying to figure out if it is worth investing into a kvm setup to only be limited to two mirror displays. I get annoyed when these videos covering kvm setups with mac laptops never go into much details about this on whether there is a possible workaround. I think I read on a thread of having to go into your settings on your macbook. But also, macs aren't supported by MST which is why I feel there may not be a solution.
60Hz for Windows and 30Hz for Mac. What a deal breaker. This, plus wireless charger on top of it, free USB-C port for my monitor, and a fingerprint reader. Take my money.
Im also looking for something much better. Moving from dual screen setup to the 57" G9. So ideally a 8k monitor, swapping between Mac and PC... Also needing it to work well with a dock, XLR mic, and interfac..., if possible. Im not sure if anything exists at the moment.
This a great video. But i wanted to lend my humble opinion. I have the same setup but with a Macbook. I love using all the available screen real estate I could get. That is why I prefer a docking station that can extend, not mirror the same content I am looking at on my laptop. But again, It's my humble opinion. 👍😉

You can't get around it, it's not the KVM's fault, but macOS that doesn't support Multi-Stream Transport.
Is it because is not a M3 Mac? I think M3 macs laptops can be set with 2 external laptops if you close the lid.

Can this KVM switch be plugged into the anker docking station?
Thanks!

Anker 553 does PC+laptop. Anker 554 does 2xlaptop
What about power stations for outages? any that can be plug in ?
Why the 4star isn't that button a remote? Does it come with a remote?

It only works, if your both laptop has thunderbolt ports. What with the older desktop computers? will it work?
what refresh rate do you get on both machines?
what if you want to use both laptops on both monitors at the same time, without switching.
Any random screen flickering, windows startup issues or black screens for a second?
does this work well with wireless mouse and keyboard? I have read that kvm have problems with wireless
is this DisplayLink certified?
Does it support 144hz rates on 1440p monitors? They don’t state it clear on landing page, but bandwidth googling says Anker 553 might support it 🤔
Highly doubt it, seems like barely any KVM switches do - or if they do, they're $500 and up.

What about sharing a keyboard between pc and Mac? Mac has keys like “cmd” “opt” but windows keyboard doesn’t
Most (all?) wireless keyboards are compatible with both macOS and Windows.
Does it leave icons and windows in the same position after switching sources? I think it's called EDID
yeah, some KVM with EDID ,can keep the position after switching
Does it work for two desktop PCs (two hdmi) for dual monitor setup? Thanks
It looks like that gaming monitor would have a built in KVM as well.
