The bookcases behind your desk will look really busy/cluttered and less inviting. I’d also move the investment sets downstairs on the tile by the stairs. It would just make your work/ break space more relaxing and inviting to be in.
one suggestion for the Billy wall: keep your computer on a normal desk, flank it on either side with Billies, and use a drill to make the shelf-support holes go all the way through. this way you can easily add shelves on the outside of the Billies by putting a single plank over the expanse of your desk. that kind of setup could also avoir the "massive wall" impression of having Billies stacked next to each other in a row.
I was going to suggest something similar, I did this for my office in our previous house and worked well - you can even buy another billy and use the 2 side panels and connect them to the ones you suggested to double up and re-enforce so the shelves will sit nicely. Lots of options. - take a pic of the wall and then drop it into CAD and drop the Billy’s in etc to give an idea of how it will look 👍🏼
It's cool to have lego sets on display but if it starts to look like a library instead of a gallery then everything loses its appeal. You gotta give them some space to stand out instead of just standing up. Maybe put some Billy on the sides but leave the middle open and do some built-in desk with wall display designed like the computer desk display you saw at IKEA, complete with the staple Nanoleaf lights and only a single shelf to really highlight your holy grail set right in front of you. Maybe some greenery around the studio.
The item that sits on an office desk is called a hutch. You can get hutches in different heights, and different widths, with either open shelves or doors. You can also put a tack board and lights in the hutch. If you go to an office furniture store, you can get a custom desk and hutch.
Honestly, I wouldn't be buying anything else until you get everything moved over, set up, and started working there so you understood what is working for you and what isn't working for you.
He wants everything to be perfect. It's a workshop/ studio it should look like an organized mess. I'm with you though, just get everything over there and start building and then acquire the shelving an storage items as needed.
I think you may want the new in box sets not somewhere the kids can so easily reach. maybe in the smallest room where you can shut the door? otherwise there is a good chance those boxes will not stay pristine for resale. slide if you do put the billy's behind the desk area, I wouldn't put set below the desk as you will only see them as you come up the stair but the kids will find them perfectly placed and out of direct eye line... maybe there could be where the kids display their duple sets?
I think you should leave the track shelves on the walls up. You can put non lego stuff on them as you move the lego out but the shelves themselves are fine there aren't they? You could stash lego sets on the shelves if you keep the work (from home) area if you are out of studio.
If it were my lego studio, I would put the desk on the main level next to the steps. The area is dead space. Why not put a desk their and give yourself more room upstairs. You could edit and watch/reign over the lego city. You might get some good ideas too, watching over your city!
That’s quite a drop from the cabinets along the edge of the mezzanine to the floor below. It won’t be long until the kids can climb up - what kind of barrier will you use?
I think you should get a flexible wall mount for the TV in the corner! Would look very professional! You can mount the bracket on the wall at whatever height is comfortable for viewing from entire room! Just use some tap con screws if it’s all cinder block. They even come with the correct sized masonary bit
Moving that fixed shelf in the Billy is pretty easy, just need to drill some new holes for the dowel and cam pin to go in. What about putting the half height Billy's on top of the full height ones behind the desk to make a giant Billy wall? You'd have to fix them together using joining plates at the back but would look awesome filled with sets, art or family photos etc?
Best time of the day: coming home from work, hitting the couch and wind down with today's Bricksie video 👌 The studio transformation has turned out amazing! So fun to follow your journey! 😀
slide the sealed box shelves over tight to wall where tv is now, put tv in between 2 shelving units of sealed sets on either side, and have couch square with that wall.
Looking good Bricksie Have you thought about having a U shaped desk system in the office area? If you turn some of the desks or buy more into the room and have some parts bins on there then it allows you to use more of the central space as well as partioning the office/TV area off from each other
Any plastic shelf you purchase, whether it's Walmart or IKEA or Lowe's, or Home Depot, it doesn't matter what level of shelf or vendor they're ALL going to sag in the middle, especially the wider the span of the shelf. I've used all of them extensively, and if you decide to go with plastic, you need to reinforce the middle starting at the floor below the first shelf and moving up.
Those little chairs (cat and dinosaur) from IKEA are ace! I had them when my kids were small, and they loved them. I think the middle, fixed shelf on the Billy is designed to hold the bookcase in its shape.
For the monitor and the billy bookcase....what you could do is get a monitor arm for it, then mount the monitor arm inside the bookcase then the monitor can be flush with the bookcase even if it overlaps by 2" it will sit flush to the front of the bookcase. All the wires and the arm would be inside behind the monitor and since its on an arm you can have it so you just pivot it open to access the bookcase behind it. Maybe have a shelf lined up with the top of the monitor so it would look more or less built into the bookcase if that makes sence. Its just an idea for you :) Everyone is coming together and looking great!
Jordan, come on. You got out of a crammed space only to make a bigger one cluttered as well? Re Billy shelves behind the desk and the table extension into the chill TV space. At this rate, you’re going to need a bigger studio soon, haha.
Pax Bricksie….. you have more choice, you can build drawers into those, and as many shelves as you need which you freely adjust to match the height of sets. Then use a pull out tray - and that becomes your desk… the monitor sits on the shelves. The pull 😊out tray slots back under with the keyboard and mice in place and hey presto it’s just a display cabinet when not a desk.
Leave a gap the size of your monitor along the billy bookshelves then use a half shelf to place it on and then a half shelf above screwed into the right and left bookshelves allowing the monitor to fit. The 2 inch difference might be the right and left panel of the bookshelves so they can still attach together.
trofast storage is the best for toys. We use them for all of our toys and even lego storage. You can have the bins but also you can buy shelves for toys that don’t need to be in bins. There are tall ones and ones that look like steps. One thing I know is that at least in my area the trofast units are on facebook marketplace often sold by parents that are empty nesters. They also have wall units that we it on the walls in the kids rooms.
The Billy bookcase is actually pretty good, I have 2 of them and store Lego in few shelves you can get the perfect height since its adjustable, I got the one with the extended tall unit which your showed in the video and it does have a lot of storage space, my recommendation would be to get the double doored one its better for storage and showcase imo
The Pax units are 100cm wide compared to Billy's at 80cm I think - that would get your monitor straight in there I think if the Billy is just a bit small on width.
Speaking of buying more things... I would want one of those large wheeled carts with three shelves (like the Uline utility cart that's 45x25x33) that have the handles on the end to push LEGO and containers around in the warehouse.😂 I'm sure there are different types for your needs.
Put the billy bookcases on top of the deeper computer tables up against the wall. Looks like it will fit, then they would go all the way to the ceiling...
I would suggest that you hang portrets on the wall of your pc. Like the lego image from your kids, some family pictures, the lego halloween artwork if you have those, the art you got from Denmark, an Oilers flag, etc etc.
When you get to your star wars room ,maybe get the artist guy back do one wall as a backdrop . Black and stars maybe the odd tie fighter ,like a battle in progress.
Since you wouldn't be putting anything too heavy on the shelving... you could possibly attach them to the ceiling/beam, hang down, above your desk & not have to drill into the wall or have the awkward appearance of the shelves below....
Bookcases look bad behind the desk. They will also block all the outlets you had installed. If you want bookcases, flank your desk and mount something over your desk.
Just thought of something when I saw your plates. Thinking it may be less trouble to get some paper plates for eating off of. Just thinking out loud. Super proud of your progress
You can get custom cabinets made like Canadian custom closets or even ikea cabinets rather then buy 20 Alex units. Also security tint the windows don’t cover them. Sunlight is life.
If you really want to have the monitor “in” the book case. Just use a wall mount drilled through into the wall behind, it will create the illusion you’re going for and also be a stronger mount
Looking good Jordan! I use IKEA IVAR shelves behind my desk. I've found them to be a more useful/flexible to use than BILLYs. They'd just need a coat of paint to match your "all-white" aesthetic :D
Crazy how you mentioned there would be no echo with all your Legos placed in your new studio... As soon as your basement got empty, an echo started to appear! Pretty funny!
dumb idea but you could try to clear a path to the right of the bottom of the stairs instead of going around. saves ya a couple seconds of going around all the lego😅
Bringing all that lego to the studio, makes me wonder how much space you have left when all off it is in the studio This will 4th video i'm gonna say it again, turn the Lamborghini box around The car pic is on the back
Those stick on blinds or window film should both be cheaper on Amazon if you're looking for something more cost effective. I think I paid $5/window for my stick on blinds while I waited for my real ones to come in
Maybe pull the desks away from the wall and have them in the open space. power would be tricky, but you would be more central to the whole area and won't need to face a wall to work on videos.
you should have a wall framed behind the computer so you can then hang many shelves through sheetrock rather than concrete like you said the other day, otherwise place coming along great. love the vidoes!!
Things are starting to look a bit cluttered upstairs. Before you keep dumping money on furniture, I would enlist an online design service to help you plan it out so it is functional in the way you want and doesn’t feel overwhelming. Because you have the space, doesn’t mean you should use all of it. Negative space is as important as what fills the space. I have had to learn to just not line all of the walls with furniture and call it done.
Totally agree. Complete mismatch of colors, styles, layouts, etc. I realize he is trying to be cost conscious (e.g. buying a cheaper couch), but can still be more thoughtful about it.
Random non-lego question after seeing your small and sensibly sized fridge - in Canada can you buy 'American Style' fridges (ie huge/wide ones) or are they just 'normal' sized in Canada too? 🤔😁

I agree. less is more.
For sure
The lego Lamborghini Sian is visible on the back of the box, so if you turn it around ,all the car boxes will look to same

This is a great suggestion, having the desk sitting in front of the bookcases looks unfinished and clumsy.
Good ides, also don’t use a less deep desk your legs will cramp as you can’t stretch without hitting the shelves
I'm not sure about putting bookcases behind. It looks weird. I'd rather put some other shelf on the wall, above the desk. Doesn't need to be kallax.
He probably saw this somewhere on the internet and think it looked great.
@@julienturcot8112 I don't think that's the reason. He wants to fill/decorate the wall somehow but I'm sure he'll come up with a good solution.
I actually dont like the bookcases behind the desk. Sorry 😬
That would be tacky. No desk in front if the bookcases.
I would honestly keep one blank wall to stare at when I’m overwhelmed with all the Lego all around me 😂
Might be a good idea to start working in the new work space studio and see how you prefer a set up prior to adding more shelves and shelf systems
It's cool to have lego sets on display but if it starts to look like a library instead of a gallery then everything loses its appeal. You should use that wall to display your mini-figures instead of putting shelves behind the computer.
Bookcases behind the desk looks strange. It’s your room tho and you’ve made that clear multiple times lol so do as you wish.
Honestly, I wouldn't be buying anything else until you get everything moved over, set up, and started working there so you understood what is working for you and what isn't working for you.

I think instead of having, the billy units behind the computer desk it would be better to just have a floating shelf above the desk

Ever thought about some nano leaf lights for the wall above your desk? The octagons are cool but there are all kinds of options.

A sink would be awesome in your kitchen area !!!!
too late for that
@@julienturcot8112 actually wouldn’t be very difficult. Plumbing is directly below that area.
@@ScottDiLandro What would you need a sink for? he has one in the bathroom downstairs.
15:12 Is that a leak of the newer tower or the 2013 tower ? Not a huge lego expert but it looks different from the 2013 one in some ways ??
Cool ideas! I like how the color of the new coffee table looks with the new couch.
Will the bricks in your parts shelves next to the window discolor if they are exposed like that?
Put the billy bookcases on top of the deeper computer tables up against the wall. Looks like it will fit, then they would go all the way to the ceiling...
Or swap around the whole room. Put the black shelves with the boxes on that concrete wall and move the tv to that corner.
That monitor should have VESA holes at the back if you wanted to get an arm for it. They make clamp on ones for desks. Wobble may be an issue though.
I would suggest that you hang portrets on the wall of your pc. Like the lego image from your kids, some family pictures, the lego halloween artwork if you have those, the art you got from Denmark, an Oilers flag, etc etc.
Why not buy really large frames and create some cool collages of Lego instruction manuals for wall behind the desk?
When you get to your star wars room ,maybe get the artist guy back do one wall as a backdrop . Black and stars maybe the odd tie fighter ,like a battle in progress.
Smart to think more about which furniture to get
Since you wouldn't be putting anything too heavy on the shelving... you could possibly attach them to the ceiling/beam, hang down, above your desk & not have to drill into the wall or have the awkward appearance of the shelves below....
Theres one marvel box on the very left black shelf facing the wrong way. PLEASE FIX IT!!!!
Bookcases look bad behind the desk. They will also block all the outlets you had installed. If you want bookcases, flank your desk and mount something over your desk.
You could do the Billy bookcase thing first and if you don't like it you'll be using the bookcases downstairs anyway so no harm done!
I think lights/design details behind the desk would elevate the space and make it seem more comfy rather than cluttering it more
Just thought of something when I saw your plates. Thinking it may be less trouble to get some paper plates for eating off of. Just thinking out loud. Super proud of your progress
If it fits, you should hang your tv inside one of the Billy bookcases and then you can set up sets around the tv.
