I have a 28 year old 850 (210k miles) that I've owned from almost new. If looked after, these are very reliable and durable cars. The bonnet is held up by two large springs by the way.
I had one & was delighted with its safety features & the power it developed, the only problem l had with it was the cam belt, get yours checked just in case, fortunately because it was serviced by a Volvo dealer when l came to pay the bill Volvo met me more than half way, the belt had faltered far ahead of time. I subsequently bought three more Volvos with the 2.4 engines in, stunning performance from all of them.
This model is quite significant as it was the last volvo designed by renowned designer jan wilsgaard..His successor peter horbury more or less removed the lines and replaced them with curves.,Peter horbury facelifted the 850 which produced the S70 saloon.
Even better if you go for the estate.....when you see how the rear seats fold perfectly flat, and that a small double mattress will fit easily....You can go camping and do loads of cool stuff.. deffo go for a wagon/estate 850 or V70 if you get the option.
I have just purchased a 96 Wagon. Looking forward to get it on the road. I loved the 940 I previously owned , which I was pestered into selling by a friend who wanted to own it. As a side note my 1976 Mercedes 123 has an electric aerial which goes up automatically when the radio is turned on.
@@jackjacko8706 yeah my 850R doesn’t have the same switch and works of the radio so not sure this switch came from factory. What sort of spec is your 96 wagon?

Radio Ariel inter-grated into rear side window.. purchased it with a blown head gasket ( since fixed) for $600. With transport , head gasket set, front axle boot replacement. Own labour. It owes me about $1500. I am a happy man.
The front wheels are sooooo far back from the actual front of the car! Probably a bit ahead of it’s time when made. We need to hear how it drives tho! 😁👍🏽
Volvo used to do twin exit subtle tail pipes. Or get the stainless steel oval exit pipe. Check out ipdusa for mods. Check out parts for volvo online. You have a double din space to get a good sauna screen to fit all the phone and tech to update it. Manual as well... nice find. Half leather like in the glt models. The GLE models were full leather.
That's not the original grill. It's an aftermarket "styling" grill(or XC-grill as it's called in Sweden) and then someone put the emblem from the original grill on it.

Glad this car found a home. I knew the owner and he kept it in good nick. It's a shame about the wing. Be ready to pay silly money for a wing as they are fetching over 200 to 300. Volvo still make them but again you're looking at spending over 500 for a wing. The other option is to get a copy from skandix. The downside is the fitment is terrible and you can tell it's cheap
@@scottr9785 whatever you do I'd be intrreted too see which way you go? Maybe do a full NA build. As the 10v 850 sound amazing with the correct mods or boost it
Only drawback for these b5252s/fs 850 engines is that there are no obd scanners that work on them. If you ever have to know what's wrong with it, don't waste money and just wire one together yourself with 3 wires and small led.
Cracking motors and it looks to be in decent condition! Result! I had a 1999 C70 Turbo and it was fantastic. The 5 cylinder noise was a lot of (expensive!) fun :) You are right about this type of car though - the amount of tech is unbelievable for it's time and considering how much you paid... its quite hard to justify a newer car and the price tag. If you can put up with the old school feel of the interior then why not! Save a fortune and they're easier to work on too when things do go wrong.
I like the way he told us that of the two body types available, he actually has the saloon. Another feature he felt worth focussing upon, was that it has alloy wheels, all round. Also, it's a 5-cyl model, and since he's previously only driven 4-cyl cars, _this is actually the biggest number of cylinders in a car he has owned._ 😐

Maybe there are some people out there - somewhere - who have never come across a saloon before. If its a real GLT its should be 168/169 hp! On paper 170hp. And if it is a real GLT it should be 20 valve engine. 144hp with 10 valves is a SE not a GLT! So either it a GLT or it is a SE. GLT is 169-170hp and 20 valve the SE 144-146 Hp with only 10 valve.

you got yourself a good car there. Good to see young lads appreciating older cars. We need to preserve as many of them as we can.
I plan on keeping this one going 👌
They for T5 perfo rims on there
I have also a 850 from 1996... I'm 32 years old. It´s a t5 model and he has only 96000km on it now. It drives better than the most new cars 👌.
I think he has the same engine that you have (t5)
