3M WorkTunes, ISOTunes, 3M Peltor - MUST NEED Hearing Protection Gear!

  • Today I wanted to share with you guys for just a few minutes about 3 of my favorite picks when it comes to hearing safety gear. Lot of you guys ask me what products are we using in our videos when we mow grass and landscape, so I wanted to do a quick review of them for ya'll.
Items We Reviewed In The Video:
    3M Work Tunes: amzn.to/2VxPv9E
    3M Peltor Ear Muffs: amzn.to/2MaA5oM
    ISOtunes Extra/PRO's: bit.ly/2CwBIHn
ISOtunes FREE: bit.ly/2CwBIHn (Promo Code Free15 for $15 pre-sale discount through Oct 31, 2019, after that use "Brians10" for $10 off!).
    www.ISOtunesaudio.com
(video isn't sponsored by them, my own review)
Most of you guys know we've sported the ISOtunes PRO for the last 2 years while mowing grass, and for good reason, they're amazing bluetooth headphones. They're super comfortable, lightweight, and the battery lasts all day. We've also partnered up with them to offer you guys a discount of $10 anytime you use the code Brians10 as they're an amazing channel partner for ours.
Outside of the ISOtunes, 2 other items that we've used for well over a decade, are the 3m WorkTunes and the 3M Peltor safety head cans/earmuff style hearing protection. These earmuff style hearing protection products have stood the test of time as well for us, and I love using them during the season as well.
The head can earmuff style are great for us in the spring and fall when we're jumping on and off the lawn mower doing our leaf clean ups. There's a lot of coordinating and moving parts when doing leaf clean ups, so to have the ability to just slide them on/off really quick is critical when we're working and you need to communicate to your guys.
These are my favorite 3 items when it comes to hearing protection that we've used over the last few seasons (ISOtunes), and the last decade (3M head cans). Hopefully you guys take hearing PPE serious and always decide to wear a pair while you work!
Hearing loss is a huge concern for folks who work outdoors and with heavy machinery, so anytime you can add safety to your work place and workspace, please do!
Which style and type of hearing protection do you guys use the most? Are you more of a fan of head can styles, or the earbud and bluetooth headphones? Let me know in the comments down below!

Hey Brian, just so you know isotunes offers replacement earbuds that are slightly different in design that comes with them. I ordered extras, they are a 3 tiered rubber insert verses a 2 tiered that come in the original package. I use them for 6 to 8 hours a day and they are super comfortable. I have the pro's and xtra's and was able to get a few guys that I work with hooked on them also

Mostly the muff style but have recently been trying out the thin plastic band style that loops either behind or in front of your neck with foam earbuds.

Great topic for me right now, leaf cleanups starting soon here in the northeast as well as starting to prepare for next spring (registering a business and going full time for the first time, super nervous lol). Currently I use the basic Apple wired headphones with a pair of the head cans over top , provides good noise cancelling as well as good function. the Apple headphones have that little button on them that allows for really easy access to calls, skipping songs, volume etc. love your channel, been sending your vids non stop to my future business partner !

  • @josephkilleen7807

GREAT timing on the video topic. Thankful you do these vids. I'm surprised you'd discuss ANYthing with wires, though. Also disappointing that you didn't mention the dB protection of each product.
3M definitely has a Bluetooth Worktunes. Pros: they have good tune sound, better dB protection, Cons: you can't take a phone call with them (no mic), they're hot in the summer, and don't work with a brimmed hat (an increasing concern of mine.
I invested in some ISOtunes mid-season this year and was really happy with the sound and dB protection. My disappointment with them is that I feel like I need to take them on and off as I'm driving and I hate refitting them each time. One of the things that I wish I noticed in the reviews is how frequently you need to replace the spongy ear parts. Mine wear out in about 3 days of sweaty mowing. I can stretch them out to 5 days, but then they don't fit as well and the dB protection is not as good. In the heat of Summer it puts me in a position where I'm paying about $15 a month for replacement pads. Cool, but not cool.
Again, awesome topic and vids. Thanks Brian!

Joseph Killeen all great tips and points thanks for weighing in! And yeah replacing the tips is vital but that’s on any earbud style headphone. Unless it’s the hard plastic AirPod style, but those hurt after a few hours for me.
When I’m in and out, I usually just wear my Peltor headcans, like you said, no fuss no muss!

Great video. I been using the iPods and my issue with the wireless is dropping them. Hit a spider web or something and wipe it off and scoop the pod right out the ear into the ground and then the hunt is on. Also the iPod case is magnetic. Something I’m sure will eventually come out with issues for certain health devices like pacemakers etc but like me I have a welding and automotive repair shop as well and gets loaded with metal shavings.
So what’s the secret with the shovel in the back ground. Why the corners look purposely notched? Trade secret? Lol

Brian, thank you for reviewing these hearing protection and audio head sets. I like the Work Tunes as far as sound deadening, but the radio was a huge disappointment in that the AM band was unusable due to a constant tone covering up the audio on just about every station, while the FM reception lacked sensitivity and pick-up unless the stations were nearby. The aux connector required a signal much greater than what most phones or MP3 players put out to drive the earphones. Maybe I just got a bad unit. I'd like to hope Work Tunes is vastly improved since the pair I bought in 2012. Oh, and there was this irritating auto-shutoff feature after about an hour on the job, no Bluetooth, and would have rather had a dial with a frequency readout instead of waiting for the voice to speak the frequency setting.

Late to the watching this video, but I am definitely trying to determine the best ear protection for my Simplicity Contender zero turn mower. A decibel meter app on my phone indicates peaks of 115 dB with average being around 90+. I purchased a pair of ProHear 033 that are rated around 30 NRR with Bluetooth along with AM/FM radio. However, the noise coming through them is too loud to hear any thing on the radio or Bluetooth broadcast. ProHear 033 is not doing a good enough job of noise reduction as far as I am concerned. I tried my old Bose Quiet Comfort 15 noise cancelling earmuffs and they reduce the sound level to a lower level of noise, that is tolerable, but I didn’t try to listen to any thing through the 3.5 mm port. However, at times the Bose was being driven to its limit of noise cancelling. If you have any further updates on what are now using, it would be appreciated.

I just do not get the isotunes people rave about. They are a pain to put in and out of your ears, still have wires and the sound is about the worst ive seen out of any headphones... They barely blocked out sound also... I just don't understand... I have bought 2 pairs and tried them thinking maybe one pair was defective. Thanks for being blunt about hearing protection. Young guys typically ignore it. I even see people running cement saws with bare ears. Im in my 50s. The ringing in my ears is louder than background music in a store. And I used protection a lot. Poor plugs and skipping ear protection here and there is the problem. Double up with ear plugs and muffs.

Hello, I'm glad I found this channel. I work for a township and we pick up leaves through the whole town in the fall. I have Peltor non bluetooth hearing protection muffs. I want to say they are 23NRR but I think I should have a higher protection. We pick up leaves with the giant leaf boxes, its like working next to a jet engine. What NRRdo you think I should be using? I would like to go bluetooth as well to listen to music. Thanks for any info or help.

Use in ear plugs and over the ear ear muffs. You can still hear the music from the ear muffs and the plugs give you the full 24-29 NRR.

Awesome review man. I get tired of trying some headphone or bluetooth earbuds and they fail after a few time. And then you go out and blow another $$$ bucks thinking more is better then they fail. Back to the cheap! I'm really going to get a pair of foam earbuds. One question do the come with a extra set of foam pieces?

I hate the isotunes! Won’t start in your ear when it’s hot and you’re sweaty. The cable is so grippy that when you turn your head it’ll pull one of them out of your ear. Also if you need to talk to somebody, after you pull out one of the ear buds, you have to let the foam cool down before it can expand again to fit your ear. That heat activated foam is a horrible idea. I’ve had two pair, both have broken with minimal use after just a few months. (Second pair I got with warranty replacement, not even going to go through the trouble to get another replacement.) I’ll stick to my Worktunes even though they’re hotter.

Hey Brian I like your videos as I'm a new upcoming lawntrepreneur. I have worked in manufacturing most of my life around loud machines I'm very big on safety. I want to express that this has nothing against you personally Brian but there is a huge lawsuit right now against 3M products as for 10 years they sold defective hearing protection to American military personnel that were even worn in battle times and they knew about it and didn't care because they're worried about the American dollar. I personally will never ever ever ever again buy anything from 3M you couldn't give it to me for the rest of my life for free I would put everything in a pile and I would burn it after peeing on it. Normally I watch your videos from front to back but this one because it has 3M involved in it I am skipping this 1.

Hey bud sorry to hear about that. I don’t agree with tons of companies but I still use a lot of their products.. do what you want of course! Thanks for watching when ya do!

I think it’s funny when people say in their videos “a lot of you guys are always asking me....”
Making it sound like one out of three comments is asking about hearing protection. I like when people are more honest and say things like “I’ve been asked in the past about hearing protection” or “people have commented asking about hearing protection...” the way he puts it he’s making it sound like everyone watching his videos is constantly asking him about hearing protection. Com’on dude!

    • @BriansLawnMaintenance
      @BriansLawnMaintenance  3 роки тому +1

Actually, I’m asked about hearing protection 2-3x a day. Maybe you should not be so quick to judge or pretend like your opinion is fact :)

None Sound better than the BEATS BY DRE and they are noise cancelling. I HIGHLY recommend them because I never sit on mine.. I get in the truck with them around my neck or on my head. They never fall and break because they are attached to my head. Only once have they almost came off from a branch in 2 years. To me when you buy 'So called tuff products you tend too treat them that way". I also use the Beats 3 ear buds.

So hard to find good hearing protection that is in ear. They dont really design anything for the men and women who are wearing hard hats for 10+ hours a day, I know we have hearing protection we can clip to the hard hat, but listening to your blood rushing around your body for 10+ hrs a day gets really old, really fast!

No offense, totally just criticism here.... I HATE when people start out their videos, Introduce themselves, explain what they are going to be talking about in the video, play their intruduction, then repeat AGAIN who they are and what they are going to be talking about in the video. We know when we click on the video, based on the titles and screen grabs. When you say, lets get into this really fast, then repeat everything again, its just slowing you down more.Just get into the video and go.
