There’s no words that can describe the magical feeling that fills your soul when you ride a Harley Davidson. I’ve owned and ridden a ton of bikes and I keep coming back to the only one that soothes the soul: Harley Davidson. Thanks for the video brother.

I think it is, in part, because a Harley gives a person the true raw feeling of riding a motorcycle. You feel the heat of the engine (especially if stuck in slow traffic on a hot day) that tells you that this is an engine, not electric or even an engine hidden behind water and a radiator. It's raw and exposed. You see it fully in view and exposed including the oil tank, push rod sleeves, cooling fins, etc. As a result you become hyper aware of how the bike is running and thus become part of the bike. You just can't do that on a Goldwing.

It must be hard to run a company like Harley. If they modernize the engines their customers complain that they've lost their character or are too hard to customize and work on. If they don't modernize people complain about obsolete tech. If they source overseas they complain that Harleys are not American anymore but if they build in America people complain that they're too expensive.
I certainly agree that Harley needs to build smaller, less expensive starter bikes. If they don't, they will just become a boutique bike.

Im 23 and own a Harley, I don't care to go insanely fast on a bike. I'll keep that for the cars. So, his statement that young people aren't interested in HD isn't entirely true.

In the end it all comes down to what I always say: "How do you make a sport bike invisible?" "Park a Harley next to it." 🙂

I owned a Harley for over 20 years and two Honda before. The problem is that hardly are just too expensive for young people who have student loans and have to get a car and insurance and pay the high cost of rent to even think of buying an unnecessary toy like a motorcycle!Plus let’s not kid ourselves with all the distractions that car drivers are doing when talking on their phones, eating, texting, just not paying attention to their surroundings, puts motorcycles riders in great danger!! I luckily went to to a union job right after my 4 years in army .Where I bought a house at 1-1/2 times what I made in a year. Now home are about 3-4 times the average median salary! You can barely afford to take your family on vacation in this economy!

Well said, I totally share your opinion, it's sad to see today that there are people who only criticize in a non-constructive way for the pleasure of destroying whether out of jealousy, frustration or any other reason and surely to put themselves forward in a certain way and we will always find people who hate Harley Davidson, but undoubtedly they have not felt and understood the emotion that these machines can provide as you say so well and all the community they generated and which surrounds them. I ride bikes since more than 45 years and Harleys since 15 years now and will never go back to another brand, it's part of my life now.
    Greetings from France..

You are absolutely correct about the sound and feel factor of a Harley. I love my Harley 2003 Fatboy for the feel of it, intrinsically as well as physically. I know I'm not winning any races and it's probably more expensive to. keep up, but I can live with it. Yammie Noob thinks everybody should be racing in a Power Ranger suit.

I like Harley a lot. Currently, I have an Indian and a Japanese bike. I think Harley has earned some criticism but ultimately I hope that they put a CEO that actually understands the customer base and they continue on strong. Someday, I’d like to add a Heritage Classic to my collection. Yammie Noob isn’t someone I follow, but he likes poking HD in the eye and does it with some comedy. I don’t think anyone should take offense to it.

When I was young, I could buy a Harley for $100. Right now, I can see over 1,000 Harley's for sale. Many with less than 5000 miles. Many for sale with a asking price over $12K. There are guys out there that bid on 100s of them, offering 1/2 of the asking price. Successfully.
    Never pay more than 1/2.
Of course, with guys signing up for 84 months of payments, many are so underwater, they're screwed.
My best bike: 1978 Suzuki GS1000E. 25 years. Fast, smooth, reliable.

I think Harley is on pricing point with Indian, Honda and BMW and others for the same type of bike...and yes they are all expensive. The top of the line sportbikes are in the low and mid 30's here in Canada as well. I see many younger guys and ladies here in Southern Ontario buying new Harley's...maybe it's a regional thing...not sure.

He’s not wrong about everything he says, just most of it! Harley’s strategy right now is an awful one. Zeitz and the board need to go. That said, some of these metric fanboys just bash Harley for some quick clicks and views. They don’t get that we buy Harleys because we want a different experience. If we are paying a bit more for the experience we want, that’s up to us. Harleys are actually competitively priced to many comparable bikes from other companies. And try riding that Bonnie cross country as you point out. Can it be done? Sure. It it going to be a great experience? Probably not.

    • @canadiansa1nt309

I think the edge that's going away is the old evolution engine with carbs, i have 96 softail custom and 05 twin cam softail. The reason I have these is the sound and the ease for me to repair em, the evo has a distinct sound and the newer models just can't sound as nice, the main problem is the newer models require dealership support as sensors abound. The older models are nice. But come with challenges, newer models have nice improvements but unfortunately quality is hitcand miss, for harley davidson to thrive they need to support all Harleys

HD never really had an edge. It was all about feeling good about riding a bike that sounded good, looked good and made you proud. I have a couple big twins, old and new and anybody that bales on them cuz of crappy management, all you're doing is F'ing the little guy that works for HD. Be consistent. My new LRS is a super cool ride and I'm still proud to own it.

Harley has made many phenomenal bikes over the years, very high quality and fun to ride. But under the current CEO the company is focused on exploiting the side of Harley as a status bike rather than a rider's bike, like he wants to be the Porsche or Mercedes of motorcycles. From a business perspective this may seem like a good move, because status buyers are willing to spend silly amounts in the pursuit of status. And if you are a status symbol bike it makes sense not to sell cheap beginner bikes and prices need to be silly high and looks matter more than performance. And status bikers do not ride much, take out loans at high rates, and sell their new bikes with low mileage back to Harley for wholesale as a trade-in, which Harley then resells at retail for huge profit. This business approach makes sense in a way, but it turns off a lot of people and may not work in the long term for a motorcycle company - because bikes may not work as status symbols in the same way as luxury cars do. For one thing rich people generally do not ride motorcycles, they'll always prefer Porches and Mercedes over a Harley no matter how expensive Harleys get - riding motorcycles is just not something most rich people do, it's mostly a blue collar thing. So trying to turn Harleys into a Mercedes or Porsche may not ultimately work long term. The kind of people who buy the new CVO Road Glides at 40-50k do so with crazy loans and cannot really afford them - they are not rich people who can drop that kind of cash with no worries whatever the state of the economy - and so a little downturn in the economy will hit Harley much harder than Porsche or Mercedes.

I've been a yammie sub for a lot of years. He's a crotch-rocket guy, as was I when I was under 35. He makes a lot of good points especially about financing and pricing. His point of view is typical of his age bracket (more or less). Harley should take what he says as a wake-up call. Harley won't last 15 more years if they rely on the 'ol boys' to keep buying bikes. A lot of HD enthusiasts are aging out of riding tbh Being just over 50 now and having 4 v-twin cruisers and touring bikes, I am on the bottom end of the HD ol boys club. I see in my circles there are about 3 guys aging out of riding HD's for every 1 that comes into it, not including guys who crash out and can't ride again. yammie sums it up here - ua-cam.com/video/cEQKMkgQ19o/v-deo.htmlsi=UhFFRZCrVJ5mEKjZ&t=561 . I wouldn't say he hates cruiser/touring guys, he just doesn't relate :)
