So a couple of things here, people, about the attorney. The man has already admitted to the crime, this is the confession needed for the plea deal, if the guilty party isn't 100% honest and forthcoming with the information then the plea deal can't stand. The prosecution can't get to court and have the defense spring a surprise and then both parties get a walk. They have to hear and know everything exactly as it happened, and the lawyer is there to make sure this happens. Only his client is still playing games and not coming clean, so he's gotten agitated. Remember that there are two parts to this confession, and it can be withdrawn if the DAs office reneges on the contract. This is beyond an interrogation this is a confession statement.

They probably knew he did more than he said. Also with the bullets and the yelling. But he had to admit to being a willing participant. He is telling the truth, in that he's scared shitless, but not for the act, but for his life.
He was also prepped on what to say otherwise the attorney wouldn't have been there. That guys suit probably costs more than all the money in that robbed house. The time for "Uhm, I don't know exactly" was passed. He was too scared (for his own life) to admit to himself. Not that he deserves a lighter sentence.
I hate that American justice system has to make deals with these people.

Say what you want about the lawyer “knowing what they had to do”, there are 1000 ways to go about doing that, every one of which has to be better that way.
He should have gotten his client a deal before the client gave word one. They had 0 without him.

If you go to steal a bicycle with someone and the person you're with gets shot and killed by the bicycle owner you could be charged and convicted for the death. In a case like this he was going away for life whether he spoke or not. His only chance was to offer the state something to help the case. Something, anything to get in the good graces of the prosecutor so that he would go easier on him.

A majority of the comments clearly have no idea what a defense attorney does. The attorney negotiated a plea deal of 20 yrs for the full and truthful statement of events. That's why the DA was in the room to determine if the plea deal should be offered based on the interview. The reason the attorney was so forceful in having Mason tell the complete truth was because the prosecution was going to use him as a witness in the trial against Skyler. However, if Mason was not completely truthful or was still trying to minimize his role in the murders, the prosecution would obviously not use him as a witness and then there would be no reason to offer the plea deal any more. So either Mason lied to his attorney about the truth of what happened in the first place that the attorney used false info to leverage in the plea deal, or he thought he could still get away with small fibs to minimize his role (for example first saying the reason he painted his car was he always wanted to paint it, instead of being truthful and say it was to try to conceal his car). It was clear by the end of the interview he was not going to get the plea deal and you could tell early on the defense attorney knew it as well because of all the attempts to help his client was not working. So he ended up going to trial because the deal was retracted and he ended up getting 56yrs-to-life instead of potential 20 that the defense attorney originally negotiated.

And even some guilty folks can fool the lie detector. Howver, the majority of folks (non psychopaths) cant fool the test. So if they're telling the truth, and the lie detector confirms this, the detectives honor that for "most folks"... and their attention moves on to other prospects.

When would someone genuintely innocent need a lawyer? Is there one video ANYwhere showing why this is important? It does seem if someone is guilty or "kinda" guilty (part of robbery but didn't do the shooting) then a lawyer is necessary. I don't actually understand why all the push for GUILTY people to have lawyers present, why is everyone trying to be tolerant of people who hurt other people, I don't understand how that helps anyone to remove accountability? Do you think guilty people who hurt other people should have a lawyer to be more likely to avoid responsibility? Genuine question.

I really can’t wrap my head around this.
Prosecutor: “I’m getting ready to end this interview and we can go our separate ways”
Lawyer: “you’re lying, they already know everything.” “I’m looking at this picture and what I see is INTENT.” “I’m just here for the ride”

The thing is the defense attorney and his client have the right to see all the evidence. So they already knew what was on the recordings and what the witnesses has said. Which is probably why this defense lawyer wanted to get a plea bargain to get min sentence for his client. Only his client was too stupid to tell the truth. 😂😂.

“I’m getting ready to end this interview and we can go our separate ways” is not a good thing. They weren''t lying, they had all the evidence they needed to go to trial. The Prosecutor was giving him the opportunity to give as much detail as possible, so a full confessionm to help him build a stronger case against the other people involved in return for a possibly lighter sentence. "Going seperate ways" was his way of saying "Were not gonna see each other before trial and im gonna suggest the maximum possible sentence for you", which ended up happening because 56-Life is much higher than the 20 years that was hinted at in the meeting. This dude tried to belittle the crime and make himself look innocent, which was entirely the wrong strategy when the detectives litterally KNOW what you did.

@@paracosm-cc Exactly. When the detectives, the prosecutor, and you and your lawyer know all the evidence that could send you to prison for life. Best action might have been to cooperate through your lawyer, plea bargain and tell the truth and hope for a lighter sentence. Except this guy just could NOT tell the truth. 🤣

You do realize he was there to confess, right? Mason asked for this interview, it isn't an ordinary interrogation. He was supposed to tell the whole truth in hopes of getting a deal. What would you want his lawyer to do? He tried to explain to him that he has to tell them everything, yet this dumbass is leaving out so many details to minimize his own role in the robbery. He started out saying he didn't know why they went into the house, then the detectives had to ask him why he was wearing a mask and gloves - then finally he admits he was there to rob them. As the judge said at his sentencing, it does not matter who pulled the trigger when they both went in there with the intent to rob them. Dude shot himself in the foot by going in there believing they would believe he was some kind of victim in this. Gross. Tried to say he was scared and didn't even want to go inside. BS. Then the detectives have to drag everything out of him. Should he have just kept his mouth shut? Sure, but if you ask for an interview to come clean you have to tell the whole truth. His attorney did nothing wrong. Mason wanted to confess, but kept lying and holding back details to minimize his own involvement. The attorney reminded him that he won't get a deal if he keep minimizing everything.
